“Those flowers must have cost quite a bit, right?”

Lian Yunfen asked curiously.

“Not really. My mom bought them for me.”

Su Ruo smiled casually as she poured her some tea.

“I don’t believe that,” Lian Yunfen clicked her tongue and shook her head. Then she looked up at Su Ruo, a smile with a hint of ingratiation spreading across her face. “Sister Su Ruo, since they’re not expensive, how about you give me two pots? Look how colorful and pretty your place is—so much better than my bare, empty home!”

Su Ruo’s hand trembled slightly as she poured the water. This woman really had no sense of propriety. Suppressing the displeasure in her heart, she filled the cup and then slowly smiled.

“Sure. I’ll pick two for you later.”

Her smile didn’t reach her eyes as she nodded in agreement.

“Wonderful! Sister Su Ruo, you’re really such a good person!” Lian Yunfen clapped her hands happily, then lowered her head to examine the flowers more closely.

“I’ll pick them myself—no need to trouble you.”

She didn’t even look up, her eyes roaming over the delicate, vibrant blooms as she spoke naturally.

She wasn’t an idiot. Just because Su Ruo said they weren’t expensive didn’t mean she believed it. Even though she didn’t grow flowers herself, she had been to markets before—and she had never seen flowers like these. Judging by their shapes and colors, they far surpassed the ordinary flowers she usually saw.

Since Su Ruo had already agreed to give her some, wouldn’t it be a waste not to seize the opportunity and pick the most expensive ones?

“Sister Su Ruo, which of these are the most valuable?”

Lian Yunfen hesitated and asked.

Su Ruo was momentarily speechless. The question was far too blatant—was there really someone who took advantage of others this openly?

Already unhappy with her lack of manners, Su Ruo found herself so angry that she actually laughed. She couldn’t even be bothered to argue anymore.

Forget it. She was just someone who loved taking petty advantages. Let her take a few pots—she could always buy more in a few days.

“Those ones there. They’re all about the same. Just pick two.”

Su Ruo didn’t even look, pointing casually and brushing it off.

That was what she thought: the woman might be unpleasant, but she was still a neighbor. She didn’t know how long she’d be living here, so it was better to endure what she could. Why argue with someone like this? If things turned ugly between them, their husbands would probably be put in an awkward position too… even though Su Ruo didn’t think Xi Yuechen cared much about social niceties. Still, neighbors getting along was always better.

With Su Ruo’s indication, Lian Yunfen moved quickly and carried three pots of flowers to the doorway, saying she’d take them when she left.

“Oh my, this rug looks really beautiful. It’s so soft too.”

Back in the living room, Lian Yunfen noticed the rug Su Ruo had spread out on the balcony. The fine white pile looked especially pretty in the sunlight.

Su Ruo just smiled faintly at her comment without responding. What was she supposed to say? That it was expensive and she could take it if she liked?

She found it amusing, but kept her eyes on Lian Yunfen—and the next second her expression changed as she cried out, “Don’t step on it!”

Lian Yunfen, liking the rug, had already touched it with her hands and was about to step on it to feel it underfoot. Su Ruo was naturally startled by this sudden move.

That rug was prepared for her family—for Xi Zi to play, sunbathe, and sleep on later. She treasured it herself; how could she allow someone else to step on it?

What’s more, Lian Yunfen wasn’t just going to step on it—she was wearing shoes. That was absolutely unacceptable to Su Ruo.

Startled by the shout, Lian Yunfen froze mid-step, her foot hanging in the air, before slowly pulling it back.

“Sister Su Ruo, why are you shouting all of a sudden? You scared me,” she complained. “You spread the rug here—wasn’t it meant for people to walk on?”

“Of course not. I prepared it for my son,” Su Ruo replied coldly, exhaling in relief as she shook her head.

This woman really didn’t treat herself like an outsider at all.

“Your son? But he’s still so young—don’t you step on it yourselves?”

Lian Yunfen knew Su Ruo had a son and that he was only about six months old. She found it surprising—wasn’t this a bit excessive?

“Yes. I let him sun himself here now, and later he’ll play with his toys here.”

Su Ruo answered lightly, glossing over the point. We step on it because we’re family—but who are you?

“All right then. By the way, where is your son? Everyone says he’s very good-looking.”

Only then did Lian Yunfen remember the child. She’d been here so long without seeing him.

“His dad took him out for a walk.”

Su Ruo replied casually, her smile clearly forced.

“Commander Xi took him?” Lian Yunfen asked in surprise.

“Yes. Why?”

Su Ruo found it odd. He was the child’s father—why wouldn’t he carry him?

“Hehe, nothing, just surprised. Commander Xi seems so cold and aloof…”

Lian Yunfen had always thought someone as icy as Xi Yuechen wouldn’t be close even to his own child, and that the baby must be raised entirely by Su Ruo.

“Does Commander Xi usually help take care of the baby at home?” she asked curiously.

“Yes. Whenever he has time, he does.”

Because of her prior dislike, Su Ruo found Lian Yunfen’s endless prying irritating. What was there to ask about? Weren’t most couples like this?

Lian Yunfen stayed a while longer, talking endlessly. Su Ruo grew increasingly annoyed and stopped trying to engage. It was all probing about her and the commander—what was there to probe? Was she really that bored?

Her mood soured, and her attitude cooled. Unless Lian Yunfen asked her directly, Su Ruo would only respond perfunctorily; otherwise, she just let Lian Yunfen talk while she sat there in a daze.

Finally, she managed to see her off. Su Ruo let out a breath.

This kind of neighbor—better to keep some distance in the future.

Back in her own home, Lian Yunfen was in a very good mood. She placed the flowers on her balcony and admired them for a while before looking away, satisfied.

That Su Ruo actually seemed quite easy to get along with. They could interact more in the future—given her good circumstances, maintaining a good relationship might bring many benefits.

She hadn’t expected the usually cold Commander Xi to be so easygoing at home, even willing to take care of the child. Judging by Su Ruo’s demeanor, he probably treated her quite well.

Thinking this through, Lian Yunfen felt a twinge of regret. Such a good man had been snapped up by someone else. If he were her younger sister’s husband, how wonderful would that be?

At the very least, her own husband’s future would be secure.

Lian Yunfen felt that while Su Ruo was indeed very beautiful, her younger sister wasn’t inferior at all. Besides, Su Ruo looked like a pampered young lady—how could she compare to her capable, quick-handed sister? If Commander Xi met her sister, who’s to say he wouldn’t be tempted?

Thinking of something, Lian Yunfen’s eyes lit up. She broke into a grin and hurried toward the bedroom.

Because he had been carrying Xi Zi, Xi Yuechen returned earlier than usual that day.

Seeing Xi Zi listless, Su Ruo felt a pang of distress. He must be tired and hungry—it had been nearly three hours.

She hurried over, took her son from Xi Yuechen’s arms, and walked to the sofa to feed him.

Xi Yuechen noticed that Su Ruo was completely focused on Xi Zi and hadn’t spared him even a glance. He raised an eyebrow, displeased. But when he saw her lift her shirt, revealing that soft, fair skin, his gaze froze, and he quickly looked away, slightly awkward.

“Commander, it’s hot outside, isn’t it? I made some black tea—come have a cup.”

Su Ruo finally didn’t ignore him completely, calling out while feeding the baby.

Only then did a hint of pleasure appear on Xi Yuechen’s face. He hummed in response and walked into the living room.

“Was Xi Zi well-behaved today? He didn’t fuss, did he?”

Su Ruo turned her head and asked. Today was the baby’s first time meeting the commander’s subordinates—he couldn’t afford to embarrass himself.

“He was very good.”

Xi Yuechen nodded in satisfaction. Xi Zi was as usual—quiet and well-behaved, not crying or fussing. But instead of sleeping the whole time, he kept his big, watery eyes wide open, staring at the soldiers on the training ground. His little face looked serious, yet his curiosity was impossible to hide. Even when the soldiers shouted their slogans in thunderous unison, he showed no fear at all.

Xi Yuechen was naturally very pleased. Curiosity meant interest in the army; fearlessness meant courage. His son was clearly made of the right stuff to become a soldier!

However, he didn’t voice these thoughts to Su Ruo. He knew his profession already deprived her of much. If she knew he wanted their son to join the military one day, she would probably feel upset.

So he never planned Xi Zi’s future in front of her, only saying that the child should choose for himself. If Xi Zi did eventually join the army, they’d deal with it then.

Though Xi Yuechen appeared cold, he was quite satisfied at the thought of his son following in his footsteps.

Awkward as he was, despite claiming he wouldn’t interfere with his son’s future, if given the choice, the military would undoubtedly be his first pick.

Legendary Extra Scene — Part Two

One night, with dark skies and fierce winds—perfect conditions for a certain kind of activity—the male and female leads were, of course, using this primitive and passionate exercise to deepen their bond.

Xi Yuechen kissed and licked Su Ruo’s neck, his hands gripping her slender waist as they moved together intensely. In a hoarse voice, he murmured, “Ruoruo, call me.”

Already overwhelmed by the storm-like rhythm, Su Ruo had lost all clarity. In a daze, her petal-soft lips parted. “Commander… Yuechen…”

At the critical moment when passion peaked and bodies were fully entwined, Xi Zi, sleeping in his small bed, suddenly burst into loud crying.

In an instant, Su Ruo—who had been clinging weakly to Xi Yuechen—transformed into a warrior. She shoved the man off, flipped out of bed, and rushed over. Her son was crying!

Xi Yuechen stared in disbelief at this abrupt interruption. Watching Su Ruo—her body still marked with traces of passion—change the baby’s diaper and feed him while softly coaxing him, his face darkened like the night outside. Desire surged within him, as did frustration.

After feeding, Xi Zi still refused to sleep, whining unusually. Su Ruo tried to soothe him, completely forgetting what she’d been doing moments ago—and also forgetting the man left hanging on the bed.

Xi Yuechen’s gaze darkened, his face black as a pot bottom. He got out of bed, lifted Xi Zi with one hand, dropped him into his crib, tucked him in, then swung Su Ruo over his shoulder.

“Xi Zi…” Su Ruo struggled. “He’s not asleep yet—no…”

The next second, she was tossed onto the bed. As soon as she opened her mouth, the man above her seized the chance to plunge his tongue in, leaving only muffled sounds.

“Xi Zi…” Su Ruo murmured just before losing consciousness.

Xi Yuechen’s face darkened further, his movements growing even more forceful. Soon, the room was once again filled with harmonious, blush-inducing sounds.

Xi Zi, Xi Zi—focus on proper business!

Kids are a burden, Xi Yuechen thought.
