If you asked whether Su Ruo was nervous or scared that Zhou Yunzhen had tied her up and seemed intent on doing something that could ruin her reputation, on the surface, yes—she appeared shocked, sad, angry, tense, and afraid, a full cocktail of emotions.
But underneath that façade? Honestly, she didn’t feel particularly nervous or scared. As for the shock and sadness, they were just temporarily put on for show—after all, she had only just discovered Zhou Yunzhen’s intentions, hadn’t she?
In such an urgent situation, she still had the presence of mind to act—truly calm, even in a good mood.
Why wouldn’t she be? After all this time, Zhou Yunzhen had been like a disgusting fly buzzing around her. She was thinking of how to deal with her in one fell swoop, and before she could even come up with a perfect plan, Zhou Yunzhen brought the opportunity right to her doorstep. Perfect!
Of course, this “surprise” that Zhou Yunzhen brought was quite significant, and Su Ruo felt she had to give an appropriate response to match this “kindness.”
Even on the way in the car, when Zhou Yunzhen mentioned going to the hotel, Su Ruo sensed something was off. Why go to a hotel of all places? If it was to talk, any place would do. If she was tired and wanted to rest, why venture out? And why so far? If it was really to greet her, Su Ruo would sooner believe that the sun rises in the west today.
When something seems abnormal, there’s usually a catch. Zhou Yunzhen showed up in this strange way, then tricked her into going to the hotel… who in their right mind would think there wasn’t something fishy here?
So, while Zhou Yunzhen wasn’t paying attention, Su Ruo secretly called Duan Wei and put the phone on speaker, hiding it in her pocket, and continued talking to Zhou Yunzhen as if nothing had happened.
Why call Duan Wei? Su Ruo had her reasons. Duan Wei was perceptive and would think things through if something happened. He Wen, however, was careless and impulsive; if she’d received the call, she would have just hung up, assuming it was a misdial.
This gamble was too important to leave to He Wen.
After calling, Su Ruo still nervously waited. What if Duan Wei reacted unexpectedly and spoke out? The phone was on speaker, after all.
Fortunately, Duan Wei understood immediately. Upon receiving the call, she heard Su Ruo’s side of the conversation. At first, she thought Su Ruo was busy and waited silently, but soon realized Su Ruo wasn’t stopping or noticing the call. Smiling, she recognized a familiar voice from the other side before Su Ruo even said the name.
“Zhou Yunzhen?” Duan Wei frowned. Why was Ru Ru with her—and heading to a hotel?
Duan Wei, trusted by Su Ruo, immediately sensed something was wrong.
Was the call an accident or deliberate? Accidental calls would seem plausible, but everything felt off. Why would Su Ruo dial the wrong number? And why turn on the speaker so she could clearly hear the conversation? It had to be intentional.
Especially since Zhou Yunzhen was with Su Ruo, extreme caution was necessary. This call wasn’t simple.
Realizing this, Duan Wei didn’t hang up. She also turned on speakerphone, muted it, and set it down on the table to quietly listen.
Su Ruo, seeing no response from the phone, breathed a sigh of relief. Duan Wei was perceptive—perfectly in sync.
Still… had she hung up? Su Ruo wondered. While waiting at a red light, seeing Zhou Yunzhen leaning in the car, pretending to nap, she quickly checked her phone again—fast and light. When she returned it to her pocket, Zhou Yunzhen didn’t notice a thing.
Duan Wei had confirmed the call hadn’t been disconnected, and Su Ruo felt elated.
Somehow, Su Ruo felt like she was attending a “Feast at Hongmen.” Seeing Zhou Yunzhen’s grotesque behavior, she knew today wouldn’t end peacefully; she might even face some misfortune herself.
But even knowing the risks, Su Ruo chose to go. As the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained. One must risk everything to survive. Finally, Zhou Yunzhen was making a move—how could she refuse such an opportunity?
If Zhou Yunzhen truly wanted to go all out, even better. Su Ruo could finally settle the score with no worries—ideally, eliminating Zhou Yunzhen once and for all. Otherwise, who knew how long this would drag on.
Such an opportunity could not be missed.
Meanwhile, Duan Wei’s phone stayed silent for a while, making her think the call had ended, prompting her to check frequently.
Finally, after some time, the phone made a sound—apparently they had reached the hotel.
Duan Wei perked up, listening carefully. Su Ruo didn’t disappoint. Soon, her voice came through, mentioning the hotel’s name.
Su Ruo’s act of talking to herself didn’t arouse Zhou Yunzhen’s suspicion. When they reached the hotel room, Su Ruo excitedly spoke:
“Yunzhen, your room number is quite nice—XXXX. I like these numbers.”
Zhou Yunzhen had no idea her every move was being tracked.
Duan Wei, listening in, laughed. Looks like Ru Ru was in serious danger today! Zhou Yunzhen was really something—like a TV drama.
Later, the conversation became mundane. Duan Wei grew impatient. If she was up to mischief, hurry up! Why waste time on chatter?
During this, Duan Wei put on headphones and contacted He Wen: Ru Ru was about to “get into trouble,” and they needed backup. More people would make the heroic rescue look better.
He Wen quickly replied, asking what happened. Duan Wei explained briefly, instructing her to come out immediately and help greet the “Queen Su.”
As expected, He Wen nearly exploded on hearing this and almost called Su Ruo. Luckily, Duan Wei was quick-witted and immediately sent a message: Do not call Ru Ru.
He Wen couldn’t sit still. Grabbing her phone, she rushed out. Feng Weijia, left behind, naturally acted as backup and followed.
So, as the three rushed to the hotel, Zhou Yunzhen began tying up Su Ruo, making her words all the more infuriating. Duan Wei was both angry and worried. She blamed herself for being careless; upon hearing Ru Ru had gone to the hotel, she should have left immediately, preventing Ru Ru from suffering. How could she forget that Zhou Yunzhen was skilled?
Misfortunes never come singly. Duan Wei, frantic, wished to reach the hotel immediately, but traffic thwarted her.
Fuming, she slammed the steering wheel, cursing as she listened to Su Ruo and Zhou Yunzhen’s conversation, growing more anxious.
“He Wen, I’m stuck in traffic! Move quickly—urgent!”
She called He Wen, hanging up without waiting for a response. She had brought two phones—one on a call with Su Ruo, muted, so Zhou Yunzhen wouldn’t hear.
Seeing the long line of cars ahead, Duan Wei realized it would take time to move. Spotting a bicycle, she made a decision, unbuckled, and jumped off the car.
“Hey little sister, I have an emergency. Can I buy your bike? Here, my card—contact me tomorrow, I’ll compensate. Thanks!”
She swiftly handed the girl her card, snatched the bike, and rode off before the girl could react.
Though the acquisition was bold, follow-up work needed to remain civilized.
He Wen, close to the hotel, moved quickly along a shortcut with Feng Weijia.
Arriving at the hotel, He Wen’s eyes red, ready to rush in. Feng Weijia quickly grabbed her arm:
“What are you doing? Wait!”
He Wen shouted, panicked.
“Wait! Charging in won’t help! Do you know whose hotel this is?” Feng Weijia explained urgently.
“I don’t care! I’ll go in even if it’s the king himself! If you’re scared, step aside!”
Though Feng Weijia was slightly hurt by He Wen’s sharp words, she focused on the matter at hand and didn’t dwell on it.
“Listen, I have a plan. Charging in can rescue her but will offend people and ruin Su Ruo’s plan.”
He Wen reluctantly calmed herself, trusting Ru Ru had a plan; otherwise, she wouldn’t have come here recklessly.
Feng Weijia, seeing He Wen finally quiet, breathed a sigh of relief and quickly called her brother:
“Brother, do you know the Gu family’s guard phone number?”
