Although Feng Weijia was upset, he still thought over what He Wen had said and found it made sense.
Xi Yuechen’s profession was so demanding that he barely had time to meet Su Ruo, let alone pursue other women. Besides, even if he were unfaithful, he’d likely wait until he grew bored of his wife, right?
But Xi Yuechen and Su Ruo were rarely together. With such a beautiful and clever woman like her, it made no sense for anyone to get bored of her so quickly.
“Explain it to me properly. What’s really going on? Where did that woman come from? Who is she?”
Once he realized that Xi Yuechen hadn’t been cheating, Feng Weijia calmed down but still had many questions and couldn’t help asking further.
“That woman… you’ve actually met her before. I’m not sure if you remember her.”
When Feng Weijia mentioned Zhou Yunzhen, He Wen replied coldly, though her tone carried a hint of amusement. Even if Feng Weijia didn’t remember Zhou Yunzhen, she certainly wouldn’t have forgotten him.
He Wen still remembered how Feng Weijia had mocked Zhou Yunzhen so thoroughly the last time they met. Back then, she had thought he was arrogant; now, she realized she had been far too lenient with that woman—she should have scolded her outright.
“Oh? Who?”
Feng Weijia raised an eyebrow. Someone he knew? How could a woman like that exist among the people he was familiar with?
The women around him were all refined, well-educated ladies from prominent families. What kind of upbringing produced a daughter bold enough to try and become someone’s mistress?
Feng Weijia mentally sifted through the possibilities for this “fox spirit” with utter disdain, but no one seemed to fit.
“Hmph, it’s that Zhou Yunzhen. Remember her? The one you met twice, the woman you called pretentious.”
He Wen sneered. Her tone was laced with sarcasm, and her eyes narrowed with obvious disgust.
“She?” Feng Weijia paused for a second, then exclaimed in disbelief.
“What? Don’t believe me?”
He Wen could tell from Feng Weijia’s expression that he was incredulous and raised an eyebrow in return.
“No… it’s just shocking. That woman…” Feng Weijia shook his head, frowning slightly.
“You’re right. I should have seen it earlier—she’s not a good person at all. Not just fake; she’s despicable. Suddenly appearing near Ruo Ruo and pretending to be close… it was all planned. She just wanted to use Ruo Ruo to get close to Chief Xi!”
He Wen said angrily, her cheeks flushed with indignation this time.
Watching her so righteously upset, Feng Weijia found it a little amusing but knew this wasn’t a time for joking. He put away his playful thoughts and got serious.
“So she actually had that plan, huh. Hmph.”
Feng Weijia scoffed. From the first meeting, he had felt something off about that woman—her pretentiousness and scheming mind were clear. He had initially thought it was just her personality, so he hadn’t paid much attention. As long as she posed no real threat, it didn’t matter. But now, it turned out her ambitions were bigger than expected.
“Exactly. Disgusting woman. Truly no good.” He Wen agreed, cursing Zhou Yunzhen under her breath.
“But,” Feng Weijia still wondered, “why would she even be interested in Xi Yuechen?”
He Wen rolled her eyes. “How should I know? Maybe she’s crazy. Who cares? As long as we get rid of her now, that’s enough.”
“Alright… I mean, how did she even meet Xi Yuechen? At the last full-month banquet, she seemed odd, always lingering around him. So it was all a dirty plan.”
Feng Weijia shook his head, recalling that banquet, and couldn’t help a mocking expression. It had really been a one-sided affair—she had been the only one interested.
Still, judging by Xi Yuechen’s behavior back then, it really didn’t look like he was cheating.
Thinking back to how Zhou Yunzhen had affectionately leaned toward Xi Yuechen only to be completely ignored, Feng Weijia finally felt reassured.
He realized then that Xi Yuechen had truly looked down on Zhou Yunzhen at that time, not even giving her a glance. So indeed, Zhou Yunzhen had been acting on a one-sided infatuation.
Indeed, a normal man wouldn’t fall for someone like her.
At least Xi Yuechen’s eyes still worked, Feng Weijia thought with a smirk. If he had gotten involved with her, it would only mean he was blind and foolish.
“That woman’s unlucky enough to fancy Xi Yuechen—a real ice cube—and she got discovered by Su Ruo before even succeeding. Truly crazy.”
Feng Weijia, now reassured, began teasing her a little. Was he mocking Zhou Yunzhen for misjudging her feelings or for being discovered before she could make a move?
“Hey! What do you mean by that? Are you saying Ruo Ruo discovered her too early? Shouldn’t she have waited until Zhou Yunzhen succeeded? What’s your angle? Does that even make sense?”
He Wen could hear the sarcasm in Feng Weijia’s tone. Thinking he was laughing at Zhou Yunzhen for being discovered too soon, her anger flared, and she glared at him, ready to scold.
Feng Weijia just smiled casually. He hadn’t expected his words to provoke such a strong reaction and felt a bit regretful—words can indeed be dangerous.
“I didn’t mean that. Think about it: Xi Yuechen had no interest in Zhou Yunzhen at all. She wouldn’t succeed no matter what, so why worry? You even said she was acting one-sidedly yourself.”
Feng Weijia explained calmly, each sentence reasonable. He Wen gradually cooled down. Indeed, no matter how Zhou Yunzhen acted, she was merely a pompous clown, not worth fearing.
“True, but I just can’t stand looking at her. The thought of her makes me sick.”
He Wen was clear-cut in her likes and dislikes. If she liked someone, she would value them above all; if she disliked someone, her hatred was extreme. At the moment, Zhou Yunzhen was the only person she truly despised.
“I know you worry about Su Ruo, but think about who Su Ruo is. Can’t she handle this herself? She’s not as naive as you think. Silly girl, you know Su Ruo’s temperament—how could she let Zhou Yunzhen affect her life?”
Feng Weijia sighed. In this world, who was truly innocent? Everyone just pretended. If something reckless came along, no one would hold back. Among women her age, Su Ruo was likely the best.
He Wen frowned, obviously disagreeing. “Before, I might have believed that, but things are different now. Since Ruo Ruo lost her memory, she’s like a completely different person. There’s none of her old self left. How can I not worry? Especially with Zhou Yunzhen being such a cunning, ruthless person.”
Feng Weijia smiled silently at her words but didn’t comment. Soon, he spoke again.
“Even if Su Ruo has changed, she’s not a meek little sheep. Rest assured, no matter how hopeless she seems, she’s far stronger than you. You may be anxious, but have you ever seen Su Ruo flustered? Don’t worry. Zhou Yunzhen, no matter how skilled, can’t get the better of her. Silly girl.”
His voice was gentle yet deep. He Wen felt a strange flutter in her chest, especially at the last “silly girl,” which sounded like a helpless whisper, making her cheeks warm.
“Even if you’re right, there’s always the chance of slipping up. What if that woman actually manages to trick her? You’re not worried, but I still can’t rest easy.”
He Wen knew Su Ruo wouldn’t let Zhou Yunzhen dominate her and could see that, even changed, she still had skills and intelligence. But she just couldn’t relax. As the saying goes, it’s not the thousand times that matter, it’s the one chance. These two sisters were all she had; she could never stand to see them wronged.
No matter what, He Wen would support Su Ruo fully. If Zhou Yunzhen really tried to harm her, He Wen would make sure she paid.
Feng Weijia sighed helplessly. He had long known how much Su Ruo meant to He Wen. It was normal for her to be anxious and agitated.
“Alright, I get it, I understand you worry about Su Ruo. But you can’t be this frantic. The more urgent the situation, the more calm you need to be. Only then can your mind work clearly and come up with plans. Otherwise, all your efforts are useless.”
He Wen knew that panicking didn’t help, but she also knew her own mind—when it came to thinking up ways to “eliminate” Zhou Yunzhen, she was hopeless.
“Do you think I don’t want to? I just can’t. I’ve always been bad at thinking things through, or Zhou Yunzhen would already be gone.”
He Wen muttered with a frustrated face. Feng Weijia couldn’t help but comfort her.
“Don’t worry. You don’t know how, I do.”
“What do you mean?” He Wen looked dazed, clearly not understanding.
Feng Weijia smiled mysteriously. “I mean, when it comes to scheming and playing tricks, I’m pretty good. I can help you.”
