RMM -Chapter 211 Little Xi Zi’s Meals

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 7 min read 211 of 365 40

By the third day, Su Ruo’s condition had improved somewhat. Her complexion was no longer pale, and she could manage to speak for a while instead of resting or sleeping all day.

However, due to the significant toll childbirth had taken on her body, even though Zhang Huaqing and the others had been giving her all sorts of supplements, her recovery was slow. But haste makes waste. They made sure Su Ruo ate well and used the best resources daily, with several people taking turns to cheer her up to keep her spirits high. Gradually, her body would surely recover fully.

Yet, there was one very pressing issue that constantly worried everyone: Little Xi Zi’s feeding problem!

Because of her physical condition, Su Ruo hadn’t been able to produce milk, and in these few days, little Xi Zi, who stayed in the incubator, hadn’t had any breast milk.

Zhang Huaqing and Shen Liang were anxious—why wasn’t she producing milk yet? What would their precious grandson drink? They couldn’t rely on formula forever; it was far less nutritious, and the little grandson was already weak.

So the two of them put twelvefold effort into Su Ruo’s diet. They had to ensure she received both nutrition and lactation-promoting foods. They even had Su Heng run back and forth to City B to bring all the nutritional supplements from home and bought more. Near the hospital, they also purchased a clean, bright apartment—expensive, yes, but perfect otherwise. Shen Liang had picked the location specifically and bought it on the spot, to serve as a kitchen for preparing Su Ruo’s meals and a place to rest during shifts.

Given Su Ruo and the baby’s situation, it seemed they’d be staying in H Province for a while.

Su Ruo herself was anxious. Didn’t women start producing milk right after giving birth? Why was she showing no sign at all? The baby was so frail—how could he survive without breast milk?

So whenever the endless nourishing soups came, no matter how much she disliked them, she never frowned. She drank every drop, cooperating fully, hoping it would help her produce milk sooner.

Ever since Su Heng had shown Su Ruo a photo of little Xi Zi, she had been eagerly waiting for daily pictures of the baby—always different ones. If it weren’t for the rule forbidding her from using her phone, she probably would have spent all day staring at the photos.

Thus, taking fresh photos daily fell to Xi Yuechen. Fortunately, he didn’t mind. He would take numerous photos carefully every time, even though little Xi Zi was always sleeping with his eyes closed. Xi Zi’s father didn’t show any impatience either; he could stare at that tiny wrinkled face for several minutes, fully absorbed.

Sometimes, seeing Su Ruo yearning for more, Xi Yuechen would even play surveillance videos of Xi Zi for a minute or two. Though it wasn’t the same as real life, it was at least a small comfort. Seeing their son every day, Su Ruo reminded herself to be content.

Back to the main point: after watching her son for three days, Su Ruo couldn’t help but worry—why did little Xi Zi still seem so fragile? Could it be malnutrition?

Indeed. That had to be it! Since she hadn’t produced any milk, the baby had only formula, which could never match the nutrition of breast milk. No wonder he wasn’t growing.

The more Su Ruo thought about it, the more anxious she became. She constantly reminded herself that she had to start producing milk, or her son would not grow properly.

Xi Yuechen didn’t fully understand this, but he agreed with one conclusion: why was their son so small? Unlike other children, he seemed not to be growing at all. Seeing other babies already so big while theirs remained motionless in the incubator was heartbreaking.

The other children they compared Xi Zi to were four to five months old—no wonder Xi Zi seemed tiny in comparison.

Xi Yuechen attributed his son’s slow growth to Su Ruo having been kidnapped. If she hadn’t been, she’d still be eating well, and Xi Zi would be growing healthily in her womb. But now? The baby was premature, born via C-section, and Su Ruo had gone through life-threatening ordeals, still lying in bed, unable to get up.

Thinking of this, Xi Yuechen became furious again—he couldn’t control his emotions when recalling the incident. Yet, he hadn’t tried to suppress his anger. Clearly, Long Ge had touched Xi Yuechen’s deepest nerve by targeting Su Ruo, almost causing disaster.

He was determined not to let it slide, but for the past few days, he had stayed by Su Ruo’s side instead of taking immediate action.

Perhaps feeling uneasy, Su Ruo’s first act upon opening her eyes every day was to look for Xi Yuechen. Only seeing him would she relax slightly. Such small actions didn’t escape Xi Yuechen’s notice; each time, his heart softened and ached simultaneously.

When Hong Shirong reported that the kidnapper had been found on his end, Xi Yuechen didn’t rush to act. He just had people bring the kidnapper from Hong Shirong’s custody. Where they were taken remained known only to Xi Yuechen. Even Su Heng and the others were unaware, and Su Ruo, for her part, never mentioned it—whether out of forgetfulness or choice, she knew Xi Yuechen wouldn’t let them go unpunished.

Pan Zhiming had been injured by Long Ge that night—not critically, and now was recovering in the hospital, untouched by Xi Yuechen, thanks to Su Ruo’s intervention.

Su Ruo knew that after what happened, neither family would easily let Long Ge and his accomplices off. But Pan Zhiming, though involved, had been kind to her in the past. She had promised not to trouble him again, so it made sense to warn him in advance.

After telling Xi Yuechen about this, though he was furious, he obeyed her wishes. Saving Su Ruo meant that sparing Pan Zhiming’s life wasn’t impossible—but there would be consequences. Some mistakes could not be ignored.

Thus, when they found Pan Zhiming in the hospital, Xi Yuechen paid for his treatment and didn’t trouble him during recovery. Only when Su Ruo was safe would he deal with the matter properly—what one could call settling scores later.

So far, Xi Yuechen hadn’t met the kidnappers nor inquired about them personally. Though his team had likely investigated, he was focused entirely on Su Ruo, dedicating just a little attention to little Xi Zi. Naturally, he didn’t know that Long Ge was still missing.

But even if he didn’t know, it didn’t matter. Long Ge could no longer escape. Xi Jian’an had captured the other two kidnappers, now handed over to Xi Yuechen to deal with, leaving no room for interference. Su Feng, who had wanted to handle this personally, conceded after hearing Xi Yuechen’s stance. If his son-in-law wanted revenge, so be it. Xi Yuechen had the skills to do it thoroughly and cleanly anyway.

Yet Su Feng remained upset. How could he forgive that his beloved daughter had been kidnapped, nearly killed? The thought still made him break into a cold sweat. He wanted to tear those people apart for daring to harm his daughter.

So General Su repeatedly instructed Xi Yuechen not to go easy on them. If he couldn’t, Su would handle it himself.

As for Long Ge and the other two caught in City B—let’s not mention them. Suffice it to say, they weren’t having a comfortable time.

Regardless of the outside situation, the hospital remained harmonious, unaffected by those incidents.

Su Ruo herself was surprisingly carefree. The last time Hong Shirong kidnapped her, apart from fright and a minor hand injury, she wasn’t seriously harmed. This time, though? Even more calm. Three days after waking, she spoke more, mostly about little Xi Zi, mentioning Pan Zhiming only once, and never speaking of Long Ge. She seemed determined to forget, knowing Xi Yuechen would settle things.

Since there was nothing more to dwell on, she focused on what truly mattered now.

“Mom…! Hurry, come quickly!”

In the serene afternoon, a sudden shout broke the quiet.

On the bed, Su Ruo sat up slightly, astonished and overjoyed, repeatedly calling “Mom!”—not clear if she meant Zhang Huaqing or Shen Liang, each cry more urgent than the last.

“What’s wrong? What’s wrong?” Shen Liang reached her first, anxious.

Zhang Huaqing followed, alert, worried that her wound had worsened.

“I think my milk is coming in!”

Xi Yuechen had just returned from taking Xi Zi’s routine photos. Opening the door, he heard Su Ruo’s powerful, ecstatic shout.

Though silent, Xi Yuechen’s eyes and hands were quick as he closed the door.
