Xi Yuechen held a phone that kept flashing and ringing incessantly. A cold glint flickered in his eyes. He ignored the phone and casually handed it to Gao Yunxiao beside him.
Gao Yunxiao glanced at the caller ID, raised his thick black brows, sneered softly, and let the phone continue ringing.
“Begin the operation. Leave no one behind.”
Xi Yuechen issued the command coldly through the communicator. At the sound of his voice, the people around him lit up with excitement.
At last, it was about to end! And Province D would finally be restored to clarity and order.
After giving the order, Xi Yuechen scanned the surroundings and said in a deep voice, “Withdraw.”
“Yes!” Gao Yunxiao responded loudly, turning to summon those “captives” and have them board the vehicles as well.
“Captain, what about the Imperial City side… aren’t we going over there?”
Xie Haomin hesitated when he heard Xi Yuechen call for withdrawal. After some deliberation, he stepped forward to ask. He was still worried about the situation at the Imperial City. Things were already wrapped up here—why not go provide support there? With more people, the odds would be better, wouldn’t they?
Xi Yuechen tilted his head slightly and glanced at Xie Haomin, his expression calm. “That’s exactly where we’re going.”
Of course they were going there. How could Xi Yuechen possibly secure victory on his own side while leaving Han Zhiyuan and the others to fight alone at the Imperial City? Even if they only arrived in time for the cleanup, he still had to show up with his men.
Xie Haomin flushed a little, realizing his question had been unnecessary. Still, he felt a distinct sense of relief.
Bai Xiong stared grimly at his phone. No one was answering. Something must have gone wrong—otherwise, there was no way they would ignore his call.
Damn it! He had fallen right into their trap. Now all he could do was hope his own men could hold out until the reinforcements arrived. That shipment—no matter what—could not be lost. He had gone to great lengths to wrest it from the Zhao family, only to have it snatched away immediately by someone else? Forget the business losses—he simply could not afford to lose face like that.
But before he could issue another order, a burst of noisy chaos suddenly erupted from downstairs—accompanied by gunfire!
In just a few seconds, the sporadic shots escalated into a full barrage.
“Something’s wrong!” Liu Qi’s face changed drastically as he shouted.
Bai Xiong’s expression turned incredulous. Gunfire? How could there be gunfire? Was it those old foxes downstairs? Or some other force?
Before he could think further, the commotion below intensified. The gunfire grew denser. Bai Xiong strode out of the surveillance room and had just stepped into the corridor when he saw Zhao the Boss rushing out of another room as well, his face pale with panic.
“What’s going on? What happened?”
Seeing that Zhao’s pallor didn’t seem fake, Bai Xiong relaxed his guard slightly. He doubted the Zhao family would dare make another move at this point—nor did they have any reason to target the Yan Sect again now.
“No idea. Let’s go take a look,” Bai Xiong said hastily, then hurried downstairs.
Listening to the gunfire echoing below, Zhao the Boss felt a sense of foreboding pounding in his chest. Whatever was happening, it didn’t feel friendly at all.
Watching Bai Xiong, Liu Qi, and the others head down, Zhao glanced back at the empty corridor. A chill crept up his spine—being alone here at a time like this was definitely not a wise choice. With that thought, his feet quickly followed after them.
There was no doubt about it—the fierce clash was the result of the task force and armed police stationed outside the Imperial City making their move.
Before the banquet began, the Yan Sect had invested considerable effort in deploying defenses around the Imperial City, sending in quite a number of men. That preparation was now proving somewhat useful. Moreover, those on the second floor were all veterans who had weathered storms and lived by the blade. Their current prosperity had been earned through countless life-and-death struggles.
So after the initial shock of the sudden attack, they quickly regained their composure and picked up their weapons to fight back. These men were accustomed to carrying guns wherever they went—and today, those guns finally came into use.
Yet no matter how strong their nerves were, they still couldn’t compare to the task force and armed police who had come fully prepared. After several exchanges, they began to lose ground, their movements growing strained.
On the Yan Sect’s side, although there were many men, very few were truly capable. Those with real skill had been sent by Bai Xiong to Zhahe Bay to receive the shipment. The remaining elites had been dispatched to provide support there. As for those left here—out of overconfidence—Bai Xiong hadn’t arranged particularly strong forces. The large numbers were mostly just for show, meant to intimidate the banquet guests.
Bai Xiong naturally realized this as well, inwardly cursing his misfortune. Everything was going wrong. He had no idea what was happening at Zhahe Bay, and now this place was under sudden attack—worse still, with few capable men at hand.
Listening to the chaos below, Bai Xiong knew the enemy had come in force this time. He cursed under his breath, swearing that if he ever found out who was responsible for today, he would make sure they died a miserable death.
“Liu Qi, call in more men—now!”
Bai Xiong barked the order sharply, his feet never stopping as he hurried down the stairs.
Tian Lie hid behind a pillar and took down another Yan Sect member. A smug grin curved his lips. Hmph—when I make a move, one equals two!
After Liu Qi hurried upstairs earlier, Tian Lie had felt uneasy. What if the captain was exposed just like that? If exposure was inevitable, it should at least wait until the operation at Zhahe Bay succeeded.
He slipped into a corner and secretly tried contacting Gao Yunxiao, but couldn’t reach him no matter how hard he tried. Puzzled, he began to suspect that fighting might already have broken out over there—otherwise, they wouldn’t ignore his calls.
With that thought, he tried several more times to reach Gao Yunxiao, then attempted to contact Xi Yuechen as well. Still no response. That confirmed it—operations had indeed begun. He finally relaxed. With the captain personally leading the team, wasn’t success practically guaranteed? In a few more minutes, good news would surely arrive.
Sure enough, after another ten minutes, Gao Yunxiao finally responded.
Then came the captain’s order.
It had been a long time since Tian Lie had engaged in such real, live combat. His movements carried a hint of excitement—fortunately, his marksmanship was first-rate. Otherwise, with that smug attitude of his, he would’ve made a fatal mistake long ago.
Equally excited and confident was Han Zhiyuan, fighting on the other side.
Today, he was truly serving the country and eliminating harm for the people—how could he not give it his all? In the heat of battle, he casually swept his gaze around and spotted several figures hurrying down the staircase.
Focusing his eyes, he recognized them immediately—wasn’t that Bai Xiong? Before the operation, they had studied photos of these drug lords. There was no way he could mistake him.
Just as he narrowed his eyes, thinking about how to make his move, he noticed another person following behind Bai Xiong. His eyes lit up instantly.
Oh? Zhao the Boss was here too!
Damn—his luck was incredible today. Two big fish in one go! If he captured both of them himself, just imagine how glorious that would be.
And Xie Haomin—always so high-spirited. What would his expression look like if he found out Han Zhiyuan had taken down these two major targets?
Imagining Xie Haomin’s shocked and admiring face, Han Zhiyuan couldn’t help but laugh. His motivation surged as he fixed Bai Xiong and Zhao the Boss with a gaze full of confident determination.
He quietly raised his compact pistol and aimed at Bai Xiong’s head, patiently waiting for the perfect angle.
Suddenly, Bai Xiong turned—and his head was fully exposed.
Now!
Han Zhiyuan’s eyes flashed as he pulled the trigger. A soft crack sounded as the bullet flew toward Bai Xiong.
Han Zhiyuan’s eyes widened in disbelief. How could this be?!
In that split second, Bai Xiong seemed to sense the danger. At the instant the bullet was fired, he jerked his head aside with lightning speed, narrowly avoiding it. The bullet grazed his hair and slammed into the wall behind him.
Bai Xiong’s face turned terrifyingly dark. He whipped his gaze toward the direction of the shot. Sure enough, a head quickly ducked back behind a pillar. Though the movement was swift, it hadn’t escaped his eyes.
Liu Qi and Zhao the Boss were both badly shaken. They hadn’t even had time to look toward the hall—just watching Bai Xiong made cold sweat break out all over them. That moment just now… if Bai Xiong hadn’t reacted so fast, blood would have splattered on the spot.
Whoever was making this move clearly had no intention of backing down—daring to shoot directly at Bai Xiong’s head showed immense ambition.
“Damn it!”
Han Zhiyuan cursed under his breath as he retreated behind the pillar, furious. He’d actually dodged it!
Han Zhiyuan had been too eager for quick success. Bai Xiong was no ordinary man—after surviving years of刀山火海, how could he be so easily killed? If it were that simple, he wouldn’t still be alive today. Plenty of people in this world wanted him dead.
Now exposed, Han Zhiyuan knew he couldn’t stay here long.
Since he was already exposed and would have to face Bai Xiong sooner or later, why keep hiding? He might as well confront him head-on.
By now, others had also spotted Bai Xiong descending the stairs. Several gun barrels swung in his direction, unleashing a storm of fire.
Those two were the most important targets of the night. Anyone else could escape—but not them. Otherwise, the consequences would be endless.
Facing such concentrated firepower, even Bai Xiong was struggling. He dodged aside and drew his gun to return fire.
As the boss of the Yan Sect, his skills weren’t exaggerated. His shots were fast and accurate, injuring several people in quick succession.
Liu Qi also took cover, steadied his nerves, and focused on firing back.
Zhao the Boss stayed close to Bai Xiong, actually trembling slightly. Damn it—those were armed police!
He wasn’t mistaken. Those fully armed men were all armed police!
Bai Xiong saw it too. His expression grew graver than ever. With the armed police advancing so aggressively, the outlook was grim indeed…
