Liu Qi hurried to the private room where Bai Xiong and the others were, raised his hand, and knocked on the door.
Inside, Bai Xiong heard the knock and felt a little puzzled. Who would be looking for him at this time? Aside from a very few people, no one else even knew he was here.
With doubts in his mind, he took two quick steps forward and pulled the door open. When he saw Liu Qi’s anxious face, his heart skipped a beat.
“What’s going on? Why are you so flustered?”
Before Liu Qi could speak, Bai Xiong scolded him first. His most capable assistant behaving like this—what would Boss Zhao think if he saw it?
“Big brother…” Liu Qi had just begun to speak when, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Boss Zhao inside the room. The words on his lips were swallowed back. He only gestured at Bai Xiong with his eyes.
Bai Xiong felt even more puzzled. What could warrant such caution? Though displeased, he didn’t refuse. Liu Qi had followed him for many years and wasn’t someone who acted without measure. He decided to hear him out.
“Boss Zhao, I’ll step out for a moment. Please wait a bit,” Bai Xiong said apologetically with a smile as he turned back.
“It’s fine. Do as you please,” Boss Zhao replied casually.
Inwardly, however, he sneered. Sneaking around like this—who knew what shady business they were up to again? This was all Yan Sect was capable of.
After stepping out, Bai Xiong closed the door behind him, glanced around casually, then turned and walked to the neighboring room. As he pushed open the heavy door, he asked Liu Qi, “What’s got you so panicked? This hardly looks proper—”
Before he could finish, a gust of cold wind blew straight at him, forcing his words back. Wind? His heart stirred. He immediately flipped on the light and looked toward the window.
Sure enough, the window was wide open, cold air pouring in nonstop.
It was left open earlier by Xi Yuechen. He had been in too much of a hurry when leaving and hadn’t had time to close it.
Bai Xiong’s expression hardened. Narrowing his eyes, he walked toward the window.
Liu Qi followed behind him and fell silent as well. He had also seen the open window. How could a window in this private room be open? Before the banquet started, he had personally led people to inspect every room—none of the windows had been open then.
Which meant this window must have been opened later. And considering the room next door was Big Brother’s, Liu Qi broke out in a cold sweat. If someone had deliberately come in to open it, who knew what they might have done?
Moreover, this private room wasn’t members-only. No card was required to enter, meaning anyone could have come in.
Bai Xiong stepped up to the window and leaned out to look. Since suspicion had already taken root in his mind, he examined things carefully—especially the small platform jutting out below. Though it seemed unlikely anyone could walk there, he checked it first out of caution.
From behind, Liu Qi couldn’t see much. Suddenly he heard Bai Xiong curse under his breath, and the unease in his heart intensified.
On the dust-covered platform, Bai Xiong clearly saw a row of footprints!
Following the direction of those footprints, Bai Xiong’s face turned extremely grim. They led straight toward the private room he had shared with Boss Zhao! And he hadn’t forgotten—when Boss Zhao was on the phone, he had coincidentally opened the window. More importantly, Boss Zhao had mentioned the words “Zhaohe Bay”!
At this point, there was no way Bai Xiong could believe it was a coincidence. Even a fool could tell this person had come specifically for him—and who knew whether they had overheard something they shouldn’t have.
Just as Liu Qi was about to ask what was wrong, Bai Xiong turned around with a sinister expression. “Go check who left midway through the banquet tonight. And pull up the surveillance footage!”
That person could only be one of those present earlier. Everyone who entered tonight was accounted for; it was impossible for outsiders to sneak in. Damn it—those old foxes actually dared to set their sights on that shipment!
Bai Xiong grabbed his phone and prepared to call the people retrieving the goods, telling them to be extra careful. Someone might try to sabotage things.
But after hearing Bai Xiong’s order, Liu Qi’s expression grew ugly. As far as he knew, one person had left midway—Cheng Yue.
But… could it really be him? Liu Qi glanced at Bai Xiong’s darkened face and pressed his lips together tightly. Yan Sect had treated Cheng Yue well; there was no need for him to betray them. Besides… judging from their usual bond, it didn’t feel fake at all.
Yet when he thought of Cheng Yue’s sudden departure without a word, Liu Qi found himself unable to be certain. What could have happened that made him leave quietly in the middle of the banquet?
After weighing things quickly in his mind, Liu Qi finally spoke honestly. “Someone saw Cheng Yue… he left midway.”
After saying that, Liu Qi sighed inwardly. Cheng Yue, I hope we’re wrong about you.
Cheng Yue? Bai Xiong’s hand froze mid-dial. Could it be him? How was that possible?
But at a time when everyone was on edge, he couldn’t afford to trust anyone completely. Frowning, he said, “To the control room.”
As if to prove something, Bai Xiong and Liu Qi hurried to the surveillance room.
Liu Qi summoned the person in charge of the Imperial City venue that night. The surveillance footage for that floor was quickly pulled up. Bai Xiong told him to start from the moment he entered the private room, so they didn’t see Tian Lie following him earlier.
Liu Qi asked the manager to fast-forward the footage, his eyes locked onto the screen, unwilling to miss even the slightest clue.
“Stop!”
Bai Xiong and Liu Qi shouted almost simultaneously.
In the footage, a corridor that had been empty suddenly showed someone appearing. Once the fast-forward was canceled, Liu Qi nearly pressed his eyes into the screen, desperate to see the person clearly.
As the image slowed, the figure was fully exposed under the camera. When Liu Qi recognized who it was, his face changed drastically.
It was… Cheng Yue!
Bai Xiong clearly saw it as well. Neither of them spoke, waiting to see where Cheng Yue went. Liu Qi’s palms were slick with sweat. Cheng Yue, please—don’t go into that room.
Just a few seconds passed, yet they felt unbearably long. Every movement Xi Yuechen made on the screen played out in Liu Qi’s eyes as if in slow motion, tormenting him.
When Xi Yuechen passed by the room Bai Xiong was in, Bai Xiong’s eyebrows twitched slightly. A storm gathered in his eyes.
Sure enough, the very next second, Xi Yuechen pushed open the door to the adjacent room and slipped inside.
At this point, the answer was already obvious.
Cheng Yue was the mole.
Liu Qi’s face instantly filled with fury. Damn it! How could he—
Unlike Liu Qi’s shock, Bai Xiong remained composed, though his expression was dark and terrifying.
Who would’ve thought it—Cheng Yue! Hmph. Appearances really are deceiving. He had even fooled Bai Xiong himself.
To gain his trust, he had gone so far as to risk his own life—he’d paid a heavy price indeed. The only question was who had sent him.
Though they still didn’t know who Cheng Yue worked for, both Bai Xiong and Liu Qi were certain of one thing: he must have heard Boss Zhao’s phone call. And by now…
If nothing unexpected happened, he was already rushing toward Zhaohe Bay!
Bai Xiong’s face darkened further. If they actually succeeded, all his efforts would have gone to waste, benefiting others instead. And since they still didn’t know who Cheng Yue worked for, if anything went wrong with the shipment tonight, Yan Sect would have no choice but to swallow the loss!
Bastard! If he ever found out who was pulling strings behind the scenes, he’d skin them alive!
Bai Xiong picked up his phone again and continued calling the people retrieving the goods. At this point, all he could do was warn them to be careful of ambushes.
While on the phone, he also gave Liu Qi instructions. “Send more people over to support them. Nothing can go wrong! As for Cheng Yue… if he’s at the scene, bring him back to me.”
Liu Qi could hear the ruthlessness in Bai Xiong’s voice and couldn’t help but feel his heart jump. He had nothing else to say and could only nod. “Yes.”
The thought that Cheng Yue had been an undercover agent all along was still hard for Liu Qi to accept. When he remembered that such a long-standing bond forged through life and death had all been part of a scheme, his heart grew cold. He had truly regarded Cheng Yue as a brother.
Meanwhile, over at Zhaohe Bay, everything had already been settled. It hadn’t taken long at all. Yan Sect and the Zhao family had never expected an ambush, and they were stunned at first. By the time they reacted, Xi Yuechen’s side already held an absolute advantage.
They hadn’t even had time to destroy the drugs before they were subdued by the men Xi Yuechen had brought. The drugs they had just obtained—still warm in their hands—were seized in full.
In a situation like this, a firefight was inevitable. Seeing the fully armed armed police, Yan Sect and the Zhao family knew escape was impossible. Their desperate resistance only grew more frenzied. Yan Sect had brought quite a number of sophisticated weapons, so subduing them completely still took considerable effort.
In the end, dozens of people from Yan Sect and the Zhao family were killed or injured. Xi Yuechen’s side also suffered a few casualties. At last, the situation was fully under control. The drugs were then carefully transferred onto vehicles that had already been checked—these were pieces of evidence that could sentence Yan Sect and the Zhao family to death. Not a single mistake could be allowed.
As Gao Yunxiao carried the drugs, he couldn’t describe how he felt. So much time had been spent, all for this single moment—and now it had succeeded in one decisive strike, almost like a dream. And yet, several armed police officers had still been sacrificed…
Facing the long-awaited outcome, no one could bring themselves to feel happy. Everyone was somewhat silent. Now, all that remained was the action at the Imperial City to capture those people.
In this quiet atmosphere, one person’s furious curses stood out sharply. Listening to the increasingly vicious insults, everyone felt indignant. But seeing that the one being cursed remained unmoved, they didn’t dare step in and could only listen in silence.
“Cheng Yue, you bastard! So you were an undercover agent sent by the armed police! You lackey—do you have any conscience at all? Big Brother treated you so well, yet you brought the armed police to arrest us! Traitor!”
Xi Yuechen seemed not to hear the curses at all. Calm-faced, he continued counting the “goods,” letting the man rant on.
“Just you wait! Yan Sect won’t let you die easily! Your whole family will—ah!”
Before he could finish the curse, it was replaced by a cry of pain. Xi Yuechen had kicked the man to the ground. The twisted expression on his face showed just how hard the kick had been.
Looking at Xi Yuechen again, his earlier calm was gone. Anger was clearly floating in his eyes. The man had obviously touched his bottom line by cursing his family.
Just then, a phone in the man’s pocket suddenly rang. It wasn’t very noticeable amid the groans, but Xi Yuechen heard it clearly.
The man’s expression changed. The hand clutching his chest quickly reached toward his pocket.
But Xi Yuechen was faster. Before the man’s hand could reach his pocket, Xi Yuechen kicked it away again. During the struggle, the constantly ringing phone slipped out of the pocket on its own and fell to the ground.
Xi Yuechen bent down and picked it up. With a glance, he saw the caller ID on the screen: Big Brother.
Clearly, this “Big Brother” was none other than Bai Xiong, who was still at the Imperial City.
