Shen Liang saw Su Ruo looking a little tempted and secretly smiled, thinking: just buy it then—still shy like a young girl.

“Ruo Ruo, why don’t you go take a look? Maybe you’ll find something suitable.”

Seeing Shen Liang speak, the sales assistant became even more attentive. “Yes, you can have a look and see if anything suits you.”

Encouraged by both of them, Su Ruo, already a bit tempted, nodded and smiled at the assistant. “Alright, then.”

Shen Liang worried that Su Ruo might feel constrained with him around, so he sat down on a small sofa in the store meant for customers to rest and said, “Ruo Ruo, you go ahead and look. I’ll sit here for a bit.”

Su Ruo thought for a moment and nodded. “Alright. Mom, if you get bored, you can read some magazines.”

A few magazines lay on the glass coffee table beside the sofa. Sunlight streamed through the window, spreading evenly across the table and sofa, creating a warm and cozy feeling.

“I’m fine. You go and look,” Shen Liang said casually, waving his hand to let Su Ruo enjoy herself.

The store assistants were all sharp and perceptive. One immediately brought over a cup of hot orange juice and placed it in front of Shen Liang. “Madam, have some warm orange juice to warm up.”

Shen Liang nodded, smiling in thanks. “That’s very kind of you.”

The assistant quickly shook her head. “It’s nothing, just a small gesture.”

Su Ruo’s impression of the staff improved even more. She felt that everyone here handled things gracefully, making people feel pleasantly at ease.

They arrived at the couples’ watch display, and Su Ruo was immediately dazzled by the variety.

“So many… I don’t even know where to start,” she said with a light laugh.

Since entering, Su Ruo had kept a gentle smile on her face, making eye contact with the assistants and speaking warmly, her demeanor extremely approachable.

The assistant hurriedly smiled back. “No problem. Take your time choosing.”

This must be someone from a truly wealthy family, she thought. Su Ruo’s expression radiated refinement.

From the appearance and aura of Su Ruo and Shen Liang, it was easy to see that they weren’t ordinary. They exuded the kind of noble elegance that came from wealth and upbringing, unlike some nouveau riche who flaunt themselves.

The assistant couldn’t help but scoff inwardly. She had seen all kinds of customers: those who couldn’t afford anything but came to browse, and wealthy people who were overbearing. But the worst were those who weren’t truly noble yet acted pretentious, scrutinizing every item while having poor taste, yet flaunting themselves.

Such people often acted haughty, as if the whole world belonged to them. Stores grew tired of them, but assistants had no choice but to keep a smile, because they were just small staff serving paying customers. Even if they didn’t buy anything, they couldn’t say anything—these customers were trouble if offended.

By contrast, Su Ruo, beautiful and kind, shone. This was the true aura of someone from a wealthy household.

Lost in thought, the assistant barely noticed Su Ruo had already picked two models. She looked up at the staff behind the counter and softly said, “Could you please bring me these two?”

Startled from her daydream, the assistant smiled shyly at Su Ruo and quickly retrieved the two watches she had chosen.

Su Ruo looked at the two pairs in her hands and hesitated. She couldn’t decide which to pick.

She chose with Shen Yuechen in mind, preferring something understated. Watches that were too flashy wouldn’t suit him, and with his personality, simply agreeing to wear a couple’s watch was already a big step. There was no way he’d wear a showy design.

So, she settled on two: one black, one dark green, both simple and elegant. Low-key, but with refined details that hinted at luxury—true “understated opulence.”

The assistant noticed her hesitation but didn’t push her opinion. She smiled and said, “The two you’ve picked are really special. Most ladies choose the flashy, luxurious ones nearby, but these are more restrained. Wearing them won’t appear too ostentatious.”

Though her words were complimentary, they were sincere. The assistant’s impression of Su Ruo grew even better; from the choice of watches alone, her understated elegance was evident.

Su Ruo laughed lightly. “You flatter me. My husband is rather traditional, so I had no choice.”

She playfully winked, and the assistant couldn’t help but laugh too.

“So, which one do you think is better?” Su Ruo asked, still troubled.

The assistant dared not give a definitive answer. Glancing at Shen Liang reading a magazine nearby, she smiled, “Both are distinctive. Why not ask your mother what she thinks?”

Su Ruo glanced toward Shen Liang. Of course—her mother-in-law had good taste, and since he was her son, she’d know what suited him.

“Mom.”

Shen Liang, reading a magazine, looked up at Su Ruo approaching with the young assistant behind her.

“What’s up? Have you decided?” Shen Liang asked, putting down his magazine.

“No,” Su Ruo said, carefully sitting beside the sofa. Her growing belly made it easier to tire, so standing for long wasn’t an option.

“I’ve narrowed it down to two, but I can’t decide which is better. Could you help me?”

She spoke while glancing back at the assistant with a smile and nod.

“Help you?” Shen Liang looked at the two boxes on the coffee table, each containing a pair of watches. “Both are quite good.”

He thought the choices were excellent: low-key yet elegant, suitable for his son without appearing odd.

“But I just can’t tell which one’s better. Please help—I know you have good taste,” Su Ruo said, pouting slightly like a little girl, delicate and adorable.

“You little chatterbox,” Shen Liang chuckled, shaking his head in surrender. She really knew how to make people happy.

This change had started after she had bumped the back of her head before. Sometimes she seemed like a different person from before. People assumed it was due to memory loss and didn’t probe further. Now, Su Ruo was more considerate, thoughtful, and attentive to family. Compared to her previously decisive self, everyone preferred the current, caring Su Ruo.

No one bothered to investigate the cause of the change. They assumed it was a blessing in disguise.

People being too rigid isn’t good; being gentle has its advantages.

“Then… how about this green one? The black is fine but too serious. Young people should have a little color. Yuechen can wear it, and it’ll look nicer on you too.”

After a moment, Shen Liang picked up the green watch box and turned to Su Ruo.

Green? Su Ruo leaned over and agreed—the color was nice and understated. “It’s stylish. Do you think the commander will wear it?”

Shen Liang shook his head, smiling. Ruo Ruo was increasingly considerate of Yuechen. The little couple’s bond was developing smoothly. Even buying a watch, she prioritized him. She had really matured—previously sensible, but now she thought so carefully about others, especially Yuechen.

“He will. This green is subtle enough,” Shen Liang said, putting the ladies’ watch on Su Ruo’s wrist. “See? Beautiful, isn’t it? The green complements your skin tone. Black would be too serious.”

Su Ruo’s delicate wrist looked beautiful with the silver watch. The touch of green was perfect, highlighting her fair skin.

“Yes, it looks perfect on you, as if custom-made. It suits you so well.”

The assistant spoke up in time, a mix of praise and truth.

Su Ruo tilted her head thoughtfully, then suddenly laughed, almost giddy. Shen Liang and the assistant looked on, bewildered. What had gotten into her?

She remembered a previous night market experience with Shen Yuechen, when they had been overcharged and the stall owner had made similar comments, ending in a humorous incident.

“What’s so funny?” Shen Liang asked, seeing her stare at her wrist, smiling as if recalling something amusing.

“Nothing,” Su Ruo replied, regaining composure. “Just remembering something.”

She wouldn’t reveal it, of course, choosing to savor it privately.

Twisting her wrist, she liked the green watch even more. Looking back at the black, it seemed a bit plain.

“Then… shall we take this one?” Su Ruo asked Shen Liang.

“Take whichever you like,” Shen Liang said with a smile. Decisions like this were part of the little couple’s shared fun; he could offer advice but not decide.

Su Ruo nodded, biting her lip lightly as she admired the watch on her wrist again.

“Alright then, we’ll take this one.”

Another chunk of money spent at once, but Su Ruo was happy. She kept the watch on, constantly looking at it, imagining how it would look on Shen Yuechen’s wrist.
