“Brother Cheng, when you meet Big Brother later, you really have to be careful. Watch what you say—every word.”
Brother Long was sitting in a black sedan. Beside him sat another man. On closer look, it was none other than Xi Yuechen.
The car sped along the outskirts of the city, followed closely by two other vehicles, faintly suggesting both protection and surveillance.
“Although Big Brother has built an enormous business and has strong connections in the underworld, he’s very fond of peace and quiet. When he has nothing going on, he usually stays at his private residence and refuses to see anyone.”
Brother Long turned his head to glance at Xi Yuechen, who wore a gentle smile and listened quietly. He couldn’t help but sigh with emotion.
“Honestly, I don’t know what kind of luck you’ve got, kid. Big Brother has taken a liking to you so early on—and he’s even letting you go to his private residence. You should know, even people like us only get to come here a few times a year.”
Xi Yuechen smiled faintly, his expression still respectful. “It’s all thanks to Brother Long’s support. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
There wasn’t the slightest trace of arrogance in Xi Yuechen’s demeanor despite having earned Big Brother’s favor. He remained modest and composed, leaving no room for criticism.
Brother Long sighed inwardly. This Cheng Yue is capable, steady, and unfazed by praise or disgrace—someone destined for big things. Fortunately, he had been sharp-eyed enough to bring him over early. Otherwise, wouldn’t he regret it to death later?
With this mindset, Brother Long naturally became even more attentive to Xi Yuechen’s affairs. He constantly reminded him what to be careful about, what Big Brother’s temperament was like, what taboos existed within the gang, and sometimes even revealed bits of Yan Sect’s internal matters. In his own mind, he was treating Cheng Yue as one of his own.
He believed that since he was putting in so much effort, Cheng Yue would surely be grateful—and wouldn’t forget him when benefits came later.
What he didn’t realize was that these very actions were exposing Yan Sect to Xi Yuechen, pushing both himself and the sect into the most dangerous position imaginable.
How could they know that this generous, capable, and seemingly trustworthy mainland businessman was actually an undercover operative from the military?
No one knew that in just these few short months, Yan Sect had already begun inching step by step toward the edge of a cliff, teetering on collapse.
“Brother Cheng, Big Brother is actually quite easy to talk to, but sometimes his temper can be a little strange. If anything you do later displeases him, then there won’t be a next time. So be very careful with everything you say and do—don’t even overlook the smallest detail.”
“First impressions are extremely important. If you catch Big Brother’s eye this time and win his favor, then you’ll truly be on a fast track. Haven’t you been saying that goods over there are in short supply and demand is huge? I really want to help you, but people at our level don’t dare make such decisions. Today is your chance—make sure you seize it.”
Brother Long spoke earnestly, his tone filled with expectation.
“Thank you, Brother Long. I’ll be careful. I guarantee success,” Xi Yuechen replied with a smile. His brows were set with determination, confidence evident in his eyes, as if eager to prove himself.
“That’s good. I’ve said everything that needs to be said. The rest is up to you,” Brother Long said with a relaxed smile, clearly reassured.
Xi Yuechen cast a casual glance at Brother Long leaning back in the seat with his eyes closed, then quickly withdrew his gaze and turned to look out the window, his expression unchanged.
They were already far from the city, yet the car showed no sign of stopping. It seemed they were heading up into the mountains.
So Big Brother’s private residence was built on a mountain.
Province D was picturesque, with endless scenic beauty. From a high vantage point, the view would naturally be extraordinary. Living in the mountains was indeed a fine choice.
Quite the life of luxury, Xi Yuechen sneered inwardly.
After driving a while longer, the car finally began to slow down. They had arrived.
Without revealing anything, Xi Yuechen surveyed the terrain outside through the window. As expected, they were on a mountain.
“Brother Cheng, we’re here. Let’s get out.”
Brother Long called out and opened the door, stepping out first.
Xi Yuechen quickly followed him out and walked toward a white villa at the mountaintop.
The cars hadn’t driven all the way up. From the parking area, they still had to walk some distance uphill, suggesting that vehicles weren’t allowed to reach the summit directly.
Xi Yuechen wasn’t very familiar with Province D and didn’t know the mountain’s name, but the scenery was excellent—lush greenery everywhere, many ancient trees, all untouched natural landscapes. He could even smell a faint hint of sulfur in the air. It seemed there might be hot springs nearby.
The modern white villa stood out amid the sea of green, yet didn’t feel out of place at all. Its flawless design complemented the verdant mountain perfectly, blending into a harmonious whole.
From here, one side overlooked the entire city, while the other opened onto vibrant, flourishing nature. Mountains and rivers stretched out like a painting—breathtakingly beautiful.
To occupy such prime land and build a villa atop the mountain—Yan Sect’s power and wealth were evident.
They’ve made quite a fortune over the years, Xi Yuechen thought coldly. It really is time to clean them up. Otherwise, they’ll become a malignant tumor sooner or later.
A cold snort sounded in his heart, but his face remained smiling—there was even a trace of admiration.
“Brother Long, this is Big Brother’s private residence?” Xi Yuechen asked, his voice filled with awed envy.
Brother Long glanced at Xi Yuechen, whose eyes occasionally swept over the surroundings. Hmm, his reaction is fairly calm. Anyone would be shocked and envious seeing a place like this—Brother Cheng was already doing far better than he had.
The first time he saw this villa, his jaw had nearly hit the ground.
“Yes, beautiful, isn’t it? Otherwise, why would Big Brother stay here? You haven’t even seen the inside yet—tch, it’s magnificent, everything you could imagine. It’s practically a paradise on earth. If I could ever own a house like this, I’d die without regrets.”
As he spoke, Brother Long continued climbing toward the summit, panting slightly from lack of exercise.
“When we first built this villa, we ran ourselves ragged looking for the right location. Eventually we found this mountain. Big Brother was extremely pleased when he saw it and handed out generous bonuses to everyone. Then he hired designers—several famous ones. It took three full years before the villa was completed, and only then did Big Brother move in.”
This was Big Brother’s favorite place. When he had nothing to do, he wouldn’t even go down the mountain, much less meet business partners here. The fact that he had made an exception today—how could Brother Long not look at Xi Yuechen differently? He had known early on that this kid would amount to something.
“You think the security here looks lax? It’s not. From the moment we entered the mountain, we were already within the surveillance zone. If a stranger tried to break in, they probably wouldn’t even make it three steps.”
Xi Yuechen knew that with Yan Sect’s leader living here, security would be anything but ordinary. Did that mean the entire mountain was under surveillance?
“Such a massive operation?” Xi Yuechen asked, looking thoroughly impressed.
“Of course. How do you think Yan Sect got to where it is today? Do you really think Big Brother spent those three years just building a house?”
Brother Long looked extremely proud, his voice full of confidence.
Xi Yuechen had already sensed that this place was far from simple. From the moment he stepped out of the car, he had been carefully adjusting his expressions and behavior, making sure every reaction matched that of an ordinary person—yet not overly vulgar.
Before coming to Province D, Cheng Yue had only been a regular private businessman. A complete transformation couldn’t happen overnight.
Xi Yuechen could clearly feel a gaze observing him at that very moment. His face remained calm as he continued uphill, all the while maintaining his disguise.
His instincts had always been terrifyingly accurate.
At this moment, inside the villa’s underground monitoring room, a tall figure stood silently, watching the surveillance screens. His deep eyes held careful scrutiny, thoughtful and tinged with interest.
Indeed, a promising young talent fresh to the scene. If possible, he could be worth cultivating as a long-term partner. I’ve been worrying about how to expand into the mainland, after all.
He had been keeping an eye on Cheng Yue’s movements for some time now and had even sent people to investigate him. Nothing suspicious had turned up—he seemed quite “clean.”
What interested him even more was that this young man truly had ability and skill. Using his methods, he had successfully opened up a market in the mainland—a rare talent indeed.
However, despite Cheng Yue having completed several impressive deals and brought considerable profit to Yan Sect, transaction volumes were always strictly controlled for safety reasons, and trades were conducted on a scheduled basis. Yan Sect never catered to his every request.
This was Yan Sect’s principle. Only partners who had cooperated for many years and were absolutely secure would be allowed large-scale transactions. For ordinary business or unfamiliar collaborators, major deals were strictly forbidden—every transaction followed rigid rules.
That was precisely why Yan Sect had grown to its current size.
With a soft chuckle, the man turned and left the monitoring room, heading upstairs with steady footsteps.
Today, he would personally assess things—see just what kind of ability Cheng Yue truly had.
For the remainder of the walk, Xi Yuechen deliberately refrained from asking Brother Long about anything important, lest the person monitoring him notice something amiss. Instead, he chatted casually, keeping the conversation light.
By now, Xi Yuechen was absolutely certain that he was under surveillance. It was an instinct honed through countless trials—sharp and animal-like.
Upon reaching the villa, it was no surprise to see numerous men in black patrolling the area. Each one wore a cold, stern expression and exuded an intimidating aura. Even an ordinary person could tell at a glance that these were highly skilled individuals—not to be trifled with.
Xi Yuechen and Brother Long stood at the entrance. Only after being searched were they finally led inside.
