As people came down from the restaurant, they were unconsciously drawn to a seemingly insignificant corner.
A woman wore a red dress that reached her ankles, paired with short brown leather boots. A light gray wool coat was draped over the chair beside her.
Her hair was braided into two small plaits on either side, fastened at the back with a sparkling hair clip. She rested her cheek in her palm, looking faintly innocent.
Her eyes were fixed on the performer on stage, a serene smile lingering on her lips—like a painting come to life.
“Shu Bai, what are you looking at?” a man with a crew cut and bronze-toned skin asked.
Ye Shubai turned his head, shook it slightly, and continued walking forward with a cold expression. His skin was fair, his nose high-bridged, and his eyes large yet narrow. He looked distant and indifferent, carrying a faint air of world-weariness.
The man following him sensed no danger, so he didn’t think much of it. “It’s too chaotic here. Let’s leave quickly.”
Ye Shubai didn’t respond and continued walking at an even pace.
A sleek black car was parked at the entrance of the restaurant. The driver got out and opened the door. Ye Shubai and Jiang Siyan got into the back seat.
The car drove forward smoothly.
“Aren’t you going back today? I heard your grandfather and your sister have returned,” Ye Shubai said in a cool voice.
“I’ll go back tomorrow. What about you? Want to come with me? My sister used to cling to you even more than she clings to me.”
Ye Shubai didn’t answer, only gave a slight nod. He wasn’t going to see Jiang Siyue’s sister—he intended to visit the elderly couple of the Jiang family. They had been very kind to him when he was young.
Meanwhile, Si Qiu paid a rather high meal bill and rode a rickshaw back to her residence. Leaning against the seat, she drifted into thought, her fingers moving slightly as she took out the jade pendant she had worn as a child.
The pendant was only the size of a modern one-yuan coin, yet it felt smooth and warm to the touch. It was made of top-grade mutton-fat white jade. On the front were engraved the two characters “Si Qiu,” and on the back, a pattern of flames.
Anyone who possessed something like this was clearly not from an ordinary family. And yet, this child had been left alone on a war-torn street.
She sincerely hoped that the original owner’s family would never appear.
She slept peacefully through the night, and her fatigue was completely gone.
As for the original owner’s affairs—what did they have to do with her?
Jiang Siyue came to find her, but the weather that day wasn’t very good; the sky was overcast.
So the two of them didn’t go sightseeing.
Instead, Jiang Siyue pulled her into a qipao shop. There wasn’t enough time for custom tailoring, so they bought several ready-made pieces and had a tailor quickly alter them.
Moon-white, lake blue—some with sleeves, some sleeveless. Various fabrics, patterns, and embroidery styles filled the shop.
If not for limited money, Si Qiu would have bought everything. They were so beautiful she could easily wear them for at least another ten years.
They went to another shop, and Si Qiu became certain she needed to make money. She had originally thought her living space lacked nothing—but now she realized she just hadn’t encountered things she truly liked yet.
But upon entering the next store, she realized the qipao shop had only been the beginning. Unfortunately, she only picked out a few shirts and long skirts.
In another shop, she chose a few pairs of shoes, and by then her wallet was nearly empty. One had to admit—good things were expensive no matter the era.
Still, even without money, browsing was fine.
When the agreed time came, they returned to pick up the altered qipaos. Si Qiu originally planned to treat Jiang Siyue to lunch…
But Jiang Siyue said that there would be guests coming to her house in the afternoon. In fact, if they hadn’t already made plans earlier, Jiang Siyue wouldn’t have come out this morning either.
Fortunately, in the morning, her older brother sent someone to inform her that something had come up, so he would only be able to return in the afternoon.
With no other choice, Si Qiu let her go. Si Qiu gave her a gift, and she also gave one in return.
“Sorry, Qiuqiu, I might not be able to come see you off tomorrow morning.”
Si Qiu waved her hand. Not seeing her off would actually be better—she had no intention of leaving at all.
After saying goodbye, Si Qiu returned directly to her lodging. She packed up her things and moved to another hotel. The environment here was much better than the previous one.
The European-style décor was slightly luxurious, and the bathroom even had a hair dryer. Of course, it was much more expensive as well—the room cost 5,500 per night.
Si Qiu took out a pill and dropped it into the bathtub. A fruit platter was placed beside her as she soaked, and after looking at it, she felt something was missing.
So she entered her spatial storage, rummaged through several cards and filtered them, eventually choosing an original-flavor pearl milk tea card.
With a thought, the card disappeared and a cup of milk tea appeared in her hand. It was warm, carrying a hint of sweetness and delicate smoothness. One had to believe that anything produced by the system was top-quality.
Milk tea made with premium tea leaves and high-quality milk—how could it be the same as something mixed with additives? Even the fruits rewarded by the system were of the finest grade.
Perhaps other people’s cheat abilities were stronger than hers, but she had never felt hers was lacking. Although it didn’t give her money or vouchers.
But the gold, silver, and jewels she had accumulated in her early days were already stacked in boxes. The cards she had saved in her past life were also piled up—weren’t those just another form of hard currency?
Even if in future worlds these might not be universally accepted currency, she believed they would still be exchangeable for even more valuable rewards.
After getting herself ready, she put on a white ruffled blouse paired with an ankle-length pleated skirt, and a yellow knitted cardigan over it.
She matched it with brown pointed-toe heeled short boots, whose color coordinated with the whip at her waist. To outsiders, it simply looked like a wide leather belt—adding a perfect finishing touch.
Her hair was braided into a fishtail braid hanging down her back. The silver, sequined small handbag was a gift from Jiang Siyue. It could easily fit a handgun inside.
She wasn’t actually carrying a gun—she simply considered whether she could pull one out in case of danger.
Her originally pure and delicate appearance, combined with this outfit, made her look like a lily just blooming.
She hired a rickshaw and first went to a previously selected place, exchanging some lower-quality jewelry.
Although she was somewhat reluctant to use items from her spatial storage, given her circumstances, there was no need to treat herself poorly.
In total, she exchanged 80,200,000—about fifteen large-denomination bills. It was quite a large stack, though in reality, converted into second-edition RMB, it was only a little over 8,000 yuan.
She then bought a mink shawl, a western-style overcoat, and a student-style outfit from the Republican era (top-and-skirt set) that she had previously taken a liking to.
By the time she was done, it was getting late.
She hired another rickshaw and went to the restaurant Jiang Siyue had mentioned during their conversation. The rickshaw driver showed no ill intent and even repeatedly reminded her to be careful.
After getting off, Si Qiu directly gave him 10,000 yuan.
The restaurant was quite busy, so Si Qiu specially asked for a private room. Opening the window, she could hear the lively noise from the main hall outside.
She ordered several signature dishes and two bowls of rice. As someone who trained in martial arts, her appetite had always been large. In the original host’s memory, she used to eat bland, oil-free meals yet still ate even more than she did now.
After finishing her meal, she left the restaurant and walked along the street.
