He seemed completely unconcerned about whether Si Qiu might leak anything.
In the front seat, Freya broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing their conversation. She glanced at Si Qiu through the rearview mirror with an expression Si Qiu couldn’t decipher.
“Did you see that? This software controls our entire base. Hypersonic weapons, heavy bunker-buster missiles, and…”
At that point, he lightly kissed Si Qiu’s fair cheek. “Biochemical weapons.”
“So I just enter this software and press launch, and it’ll fire?” Si Qiu asked, as casually as if she were discussing which bag of chips tasted better.
“Yes, exactly. I’ve already granted you authorization. When the time comes, you’ll just need to enter your fingerprint, retina scan, and password. Once we get back, I’ll tell you the password and the daily rotation pattern, then you just input the target location. And then they’ll fly over to wherever you want and explode, just like the fireworks you’ve seen.”
What made Freya break out in a cold sweat wasn’t the fact that the boss had given Si Qiu authorization—but that neither of them seemed to think this was anything unusual at all.
One of them didn’t feel unsafe. The other didn’t feel overwhelmed or honored.
Freya began to wonder: was it because she had been following the boss through this dark world for too long that she no longer understood how normal couples were supposed to interact?
Or had the boss already drifted entirely beyond the bounds of ordinary romance?
After playing around with it for a bit, Si Qiu lost interest. She didn’t actually want to blow anything up anyway.
Fortunately, they had already arrived at the villa. The front section was a light steel structure with floor-to-ceiling windows—clean, simple, and bright.
Behind it stood a two-story villa that looked more refined and luxurious. Si Qiu briefly wandered around before being pulled back by Elias.
“If you’re not tired, I’ll take you for a full-body checkup first.”
At the mention of a full-body checkup, Si Qiu felt a bit resistant. Elias noticed it, but he wasn’t reassured about her health.
So he coaxed her gently, “After the checkup, I’ll play games with you. I’ll help you rank up, okay?”
Si Qiu wavered.
This guy’s brain was practically cheating—games she had never even properly learned, he could pick up in two or three rounds and play extremely well.
A few more matches and he could easily carry her up the ranks.
As for her… she had secretly played games since middle school, all the way to now, and she was still painfully bad.
But what gamer could calmly accept being bad?
And so Elias, this “cheat code,” naturally became her solution.
After the entire set of examinations was completed, Elias left first because of work.
Si Qiu stayed in the villa and, looking at the rippling blue swimming pool, suddenly felt like going for a swim. Back in her room, she indeed found a swimsuit.
It was a light green halter-neck one-piece that made her skin look even more smooth and luminous. When she went downstairs, the staff in the villa were stunned.
After thinking for a moment, Si Qiu said, “Could you please prepare a fruit platter and a cup of milk tea for me? No mango in the fruit, thank you!”
Usually, after she gave instructions, either Theodore and Karl would respond with a “yes” or ask follow-up questions.
But this time, the three servants standing there didn’t move at all.
Finally, a slightly fuller woman stepped forward and spoke a long string of English. Seeing Si Qiu’s confused expression, she switched to another language.
In the end, both sides confirmed the same problem:
They couldn’t understand each other.
So when Elias finished his work and came back to call Si Qiu for dinner, he realized she was probably upset. She was watching a drama on her phone and completely ignoring his attempts to speak to her.
Although Si Qiu eventually ordered fruit and milk tea through a mobile app, the inability to communicate properly made her feel very uncomfortable. A sense of loneliness rose in her without warning.
Elias washed his hands and came over. “Qiuqiu, what’s wrong? Did I do something to upset you?”
Hearing this, Si Qiu shook her head a little dejectedly. It wasn’t his fault.
“I just realized I can’t communicate with people here. They don’t understand Chinese, and I don’t know any foreign languages.”
Elias smiled in understanding. “That’s my fault. I didn’t arrange things properly.”
“Don’t worry. Rest well tonight. This will be solved tomorrow morning.”
Si Qiu never doubted his ability to execute things, but she still felt a renewed awareness of her own “clumsiness.”
It seemed like everyone here spoke several languages—only she only knew Chinese.
Elias looked slightly puzzled. “By the way, aren’t you a university student? I remember students in your country usually learn English.”
Everyone on his island could communicate in English.
Si Qiu stuffed a potato chip into her mouth and mumbled, “Well… I didn’t do very well in foreign languages on my college entrance exam.”
Under his confused gaze, she gritted her teeth. “I got 57 points.”
Seeing him trying to hold back laughter from the side glance, Si Qiu turned away from him.
Luckily, a servant came to announce dinner was ready. Si Qiu was not the kind of person who held grudges for long.
A meal was enough for her to forget her earlier unhappiness.
Elias’s detailed information was already on his desk. Her score of 498 in the college entrance exam and admission to an average university’s Chinese department meant he couldn’t say she had no academic talent.
He could only say Si Qiu’s mother was a remarkable woman.
He had read that file more than ten times—he knew it almost by heart.
So he had never even considered forcing Si Qiu to learn a foreign language to communicate with him.
That day, Elias didn’t drink alcohol during dinner.
Si Qiu knew very well that he usually had a strong dependence on both alcohol and cigarettes. Huh? Now that she thought about it, she hadn’t seen him smoke in a long time either.
After dinner, Elias went to the study to handle work. He had someone specially place a lazy sofa in the room, and Si Qiu curled up there playing games within his line of sight.
She couldn’t understand what they were saying, nor did she care about their chatter. But she could tell her “master” was really busy.
Until Michel knocked and entered, handing a document to Elias. He reviewed it carefully.
Then his gaze fell on Si Qiu, who was curled up like a cat, biting a cherry while fully focused on her game, reacting intensely to every sound effect.
After giving a few instructions, everyone else gradually left the room.
Once they were gone, he stood up, walked to the lazy sofa, picked Si Qiu up, and sat down himself.
He wrapped his arms around her and took over her game. Within minutes, the “victory” screen appeared.
For Si Qiu, who had already lost several rounds, this was incredibly satisfying. She turned around happily and rewarded him with a kiss.
Elias caught the back of her head and deepened the kiss. It wasn’t their first time kissing like this.
But this time, Elias was especially intense and passionate. Si Qiu only realized what was about to happen when she was half-dazed and suddenly placed on the bed.
Her brief stiffness was noticed immediately. Elias paused the kiss, gently pecking her lips twice.
