Fingers pressing with just the right amount of force on the scalp eased the tension that came from a full day in front of the computer, and the other two felt the same—after all, they were all running their own companies.
Nothing about this was easy.
After a long moment, Dong Xinyuan tilted her head slightly. “Si Qiu, I really have to admire you. That short drama is more powerful than a money-printing machine!”
Si Qiu gave her a small smile. “It’s just the first time trying it—of course it tastes good. But whether I can keep eating it in the future, that’s another story.”
Dong Xinyan gave a meaningful smile. “Still playing dumb with me? Everyone knows you’ve already been buying up copyrights on all the major novel sites. You’ve revived the once-struggling sites, and most of the top-tier, commercially viable novels are already under your control, right?”
She asked tentatively.
Si Qiu closed her eyes slightly, pretending to sigh. “Ah, it’s not that easy. When we first acquired them, our company didn’t have enough funds. Now there are even more people competing. I’m at the stage where I can see the feast but can’t eat enough, and yet you’re poking me with a stick.”
At that moment, Wu Ying’s voice came over. “You can’t blame it all on Qiu Qiu. I have to take some responsibility too—I misjudged. Back then, when Qiu Qiu wanted to raise money, I thought it was risky and unnecessary, so I blocked her. Now just thinking about it makes me regret it deeply.”
“Hahaha, I heard this time you even started five production teams. The first batch of opportunities—well, you basically claimed them all. Leaving the rest for others to benefit from?”
Dong Xinyuan said, half teasing, half envious.
Si Qiu shot her a mock-annoyed glance. “Looks like you didn’t get a piece of the pie either.”
Dong Xinyuan laughed heartily and changed the topic. “Our platform’s registration traffic has been really high lately, thanks to that short drama of yours. Starting next month, I want to roll out some support measures for our streamers, and also try to recruit some big-name streamers. That should bring in a lot of traffic.”
Si Qiu, getting her toenails done, felt ticklish, so her speech came out in small pauses.
“Streamers care about traffic and fame—I think we can start there. We could also invite some celebrities to join the platform, which would bring in even more viewers. The platform could even buy exclusive short dramas and release them with ads to unlock, branding them as free—people always want something for nothing. We could also host low-barrier competitions, like stand-up contests or streamer tournaments.”
Dong Xinyan’s eyes lit up. “Qiu Qiu—I’ll call you that now—your mind is perfect for business. I’ll have a meeting tomorrow to implement these plans as soon as possible.”
“Don’t praise me like that. I’ve been a full-time housewife for years, and it’s made me dumb. Being out of touch with society, there’s so much I don’t understand. Even just researching all this information these past few days has exhausted me. Ugh! Marriage really does let you find your retribution accurately!”
Si Qiu’s offhand remark sent the other two into peals of laughter.
“Qiu Qiu, you’re perfect for being an influencer. Every word you say is a meme—absolutely ridiculous and hilarious. But honestly, seeing you like this, what you said is true. Good thing I’m not married.”
Dong Xinyuan spoke with a look of relief on her face.
“By the way, my brother heard that I know you, so he specifically called me and asked me to check—do you happen to know the novelist Qingyun Zhishang? After all, that short drama you did before… wasn’t it based on his novel?”
Si Qiu first tilted her head to take a sip of the juice the staff handed her, then replied, “Oh? Did you take a liking to his novel?”
“Yes! You know his group holds a stake in Jia Entertainment. It went through a rough patch before, but now they’re just thinking of getting back on track!”
Si Qiu thought about Qisheng’s capabilities. Though it wasn’t one of the “Big Four” entertainment companies, it was only a step below.
Then she tilted her head and smiled. “For your sake, I could talk with Qisheng’s people. But you know I already have my own entertainment company. Although its scale can’t compare to Qisheng, gradually acquiring that novel isn’t an issue.”
Dong Xinran replayed her words in her mind, then suddenly straightened up so fast that the staff attending her panicked.
She nonchalantly leaned sideways toward Si Qiu. “What do you mean? You wouldn’t…”
Si Qiu winked at her. “My online pen name is Qingyun Zhishang.”
Si Qiu’s company had invested quite a bit to build this large-scale IP, and they had just signed many new talents. She could use this drama to let her team gain experience—and familiarize herself with the industry’s workflows and networks, since this was her first real deep dive.
Dong Xinran was stunned, then collapsed back onto the lounge chair, muttering, “This is so unfair. I’ve never bowed to anyone—my brother only thinks he’s a bit older and more experienced than me.”
She turned to Si Qiu. “But with your situation, it’s basically like you’ve hacked the system—whatever you do, it’s perfect. Everything you touch turns to peak.”
Si Qiu laughed outright at this slightly jealous compliment.
Dong Xinyuan, calming down, sighed. “Well, my guest today wasn’t invited for nothing. I’ll have to get my brother to reimburse me. He only let me contact the person; I ended up catching the real deal myself.”
After head massages and manicures were done, they had a meal at the club, then went to a nearby bar. Not that the club didn’t have one—it’s just that they all felt the club bar was boring.
At the bar, Si Qiu realized the original self had been here before—on an affair-catching mission. It had been a messy scene, even reported by the media.
Dong Xinyuan didn’t ask for a private room, but reserved a booth on the second floor.
The manager came over, and Dong Xinyuan had Si Qiu and the others order drinks while she lazily leaned against the sofa in the booth. “Manager, pick some standout, clean-looking boys and girls to come over.”
The manager tucked in his stomach and smiled ingratiatingly. “Sure, I’ll arrange it right away.”
Soon, ten boys and ten girls arrived, lined up in two rows. All types were represented. Si Qiu didn’t hesitate, picking one boy and one girl who looked clean and fresh.
She couldn’t bear heavy makeup.
Wu Ying chose two cool ones—shirtless boys in leather jackets, with three or four chains around their necks. Perfect vibe.
Dong Xinyan kept two boys and two girls, filling the booth completely, with drinks, fruit plates, and snacks all arranged on the table.
These boys and girls were emotionally savvy and knew how to entertain. The three of them had a blast.
Coincidentally, Tang Chaoyun was here too with a few brothers—but they were in a separate private room.
