“Alright, alright, just finish up what you’re working on and don’t delay leaving. Oh, and don’t forget tomorrow’s video platform interview—make sure to notify the two lead actors, as well as the director and screenwriter of the crew.”
“Don’t worry, Sister Wu! Everything’s already been arranged in advance.”
Si Qiu returned to her office and continued organizing the company’s upcoming development plans. Once the short drama went viral and the funds were in place, she could move forward with the next steps.
This was when the hacking skills she had learned in her previous life came in handy. The situations of various entertainment companies, with just a little effort on her part, all ended up on her computer.
Of course, “a little effort” was an understatement—each company’s network security was still substantial, and Si Qiu had to put in some real work.
But that didn’t matter; what mattered was the result.
As she browsed through the data on her computer, she quickly identified three people:
- A director named Zhao Ting, who had been fired after clashing with the leadership for refusing the actors the company assigned.
- A girl named Li Yue, who had offended investors and ended up signing a contract with an astronomical penalty, and was now working at a hotpot restaurant.
- Finally, a screenwriter named Du Guo, who suffered from social anxiety, had had her work stolen by her previous company with no recourse, and whose condition worsened over time.
Si Qiu printed out their information and muttered in awe, “What a mess…”
She chose these three not because a few companies had created such misfortunes for them, but because among all these people, these three were the ones worth investing in.
Only those with real value could be utilized.
She flipped through her notebook, intending to plan some videos using a few accounts. She knew that references and memes from her previous world would surely be popular here as well.
But the problem was, her notes hardly recorded these, and what was there was only occasional and sparse.
And her own memory didn’t recall much either.
Some things, you only realize you lack when you actually need them. In the past few worlds, she had thought she was well-prepared, making good use of the survival system and the extra storage space it provided.
Each world involved consuming unnecessary or non-precious survival items, fully utilizing every corner of the space to store valuable things.
Even the pens and notebooks given by the space were put to use—but only when the time came did she realize her use wasn’t thorough enough.
Fortunately, lower-tier worlds were relatively safe, so small mistakes weren’t fatal. But it was a lesson: she had to be careful, because once the system’s energy was sufficient and she entered a dangerous world, mistakes could be deadly.
A knock sounded—bang bang. The door was opened.
“Qiu Qiu, I’m ready! Let’s go!”
Si Qiu picked up the freshly printed files and handed them to Wu Ying first. “You get in touch with these people. Ideally, we can get them to sign long-term contracts.”
She paused. “These people have psychological trauma, so they might be guarded, but you know our company’s philosophy—we can leverage that.”
Turning to grab her bag, she added, “About the account setup I mentioned earlier, have you found the people for it? I’ve written a few scripts, and later you’ll…”
“All right, all right, my queen! Your orders are engraved in my heart. Now it’s time for us to relax and celebrate. Please put away that ‘work till you drop’ attitude and let us take a breather!”
With that, she tugged Si Qiu toward the door. Si Qiu had no choice but to follow, muttering defensively under her breath.
“Please, I’m the one putting in extra hours—I never asked you to. Besides, our company policy is a standard forty-five-hour workweek.”
“Overtime pay is given according to the standard—I haven’t been exploiting you, have I?”
Wu Ying pressed the elevator button and then leaned against the wall, arms crossed, looking at her.
“Yes, you haven’t demanded that of us, but we’d feel bad otherwise! You’re such a great boss, paying such high salaries with such excellent benefits. How could we bear to see you working overtime alone? Everyone in our company is kind-hearted—they’d feel guilty if they didn’t help!”
Si Qiu couldn’t help but laugh. “From what I know, those ‘little cuties’ in the office are always shouting that they don’t want to empathize with capitalists.”
The elevator doors opened, and the two of them walked toward the car. Wu Ying waved as she spoke.
“Oh, the young ones just echo what they see online now and then. As you said, our company’s treatment and conditions are top-notch. They just hope to get a little extra pay and that the company keeps running smoothly! Seeing you work so hard as the boss, they all push themselves to do their best!”
Si Qiu took out the car keys. She didn’t know the brand, but the headlights lit up, and she couldn’t help but click her tongue in admiration. Luxury cars are luxury cars—the car was beautiful, the lights dazzling.
The two of them drove to a prearranged club. She had been there before, but she didn’t have VIP status at the club. The last time she came, she used Tang Chaoyun’s card. Back then, the original owner felt like she was just an accessory to him.
But Si Qiu wouldn’t feel that way. She didn’t need to be anyone’s appendage. She didn’t take the initiative to control anyone, partly because she was naturally lazy.
She directly registered under Dong Xinyuan’s name and was led to the corresponding room by a pretty attendant.
The door was knocked on and opened. The 120-square-meter room was decorated in a very cozy style. Dong Xinyuan was sitting there flipping through her tablet.
When she saw the two of them coming, she quickly stood up and hugged them.
“Sweeties, you came at the perfect time! Come sit—I’m choosing my nail design right now.”
While speaking, she pulled the two of them onto the sofa. Outside the door, nail technicians began to trickle in and start preparations.
Si Qiu set her bag aside and said to an attendant standing nearby, “Get me a head massage therapist as well, so we can have it done while we get our nails done.”
The attendant bowed slightly and smiled. “Certainly, Madam Tang.”
“Please call me Miss Si.”
The attendant paused briefly but quickly recovered, bowing in apology. “Apologies, Miss Si. I’ll arrange a head massage therapist immediately. Do you have any other requests?”
“I don’t have any.”
Then she tilted her head toward the other two.
“How about you two? You’ve worked all day. Do you want a head massage to relax?”
Dong Xinyuan thought for a moment, then nodded.
Wu Ying also nodded, jokingly adding, “Take care of yourselves. Otherwise, if you die of overwork, you won’t get to enjoy it.”
The three of them quickly picked their nail designs and sat in specially designed massage chairs. The nail technicians sat on either side, while the head massage therapist gently began working on their heads.
