A few of them had arranged to pick up Tian Shuang. Once in the car, Zhou Chenyu directly told Shao Yang to drive, then pulled Qiuqiu along to sit in the back seat.
Seeing their clasped hands, Lin Zixiang—who had been a step too late—suffered a heavy blow and remained in a daze the whole time.
It was fortunate he wasn’t the one driving. Only when Tian Shuang came out did he finally seem to snap back to his senses. Aware that he couldn’t embarrass his “little sister” in front of outsiders, he didn’t object to Zhou Chenyu anymore.
The group took Tian Shuang to eat roast duck. Originally, they planned to bring her back to Si Qiu’s grandfather’s house afterward, but Tian Shuang stubbornly refused and insisted on viewing houses first.
“Qiuqiu, you drove here, so it’ll be convenient to leave my things in the car. If I find a suitable place, I want to settle it right away, then buy some bedding in the afternoon and move in.”
Si Qiu understood her eagerness to finally have a place she could call home. Seeing that it was still early, she agreed to her plan.
It was only a little past 10 a.m., so Si Qiu contacted the intermediary. Following her advice, Tian Shuang gritted her teeth and chose the 79-square-meter apartment.
Si Qiu told her that taking out a loan wasn’t ideal and lent her 110,000 yuan. Chang Li and Xu Shuang each lent her 60,000, and Tian Shuang covered the rest herself.
As for the smaller apartment, Si Qiu bought it for herself.
After signing the contract, it would still take two days for the property certificate to be processed, but they already had the keys and could start cleaning.
Since Tian Shuang didn’t have the money to renovate, she planned to thoroughly clean the place, buy some bedding and kitchenware, and make do for now.
The apartment was second-hand. Although a bit old, the previous owner had taken good care of it. It looked clean, and basic facilities like the sink and toilet were all in place.
There was even some simple furniture. After proper cleaning, wiping, and disinfecting, she planned to keep using it, as she didn’t have enough money for renovations.
Originally, Si Qiu wanted the three guys to head back while she helped Tian Shuang clean up, but none of them agreed. They rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
Tian Shuang was deeply moved. These young masters weren’t pampered and helpless at all—in fact, they worked even harder than Si Qiu.
As Shao Yang moved a cabinet to clean behind it, he said, “I thought my family was already well-off, but I didn’t expect you two girls to be this rich. What I have in my pocket isn’t even a fraction of yours.”
“We only made some pocket money thanks to Uncle Si,” Tian Shuang said. Ever since getting the keys, the smile on her face wouldn’t fade, and she no longer spoke so timidly.
Lin Zixiang, holding a torn bag filled with trash, said, “That still takes ability. Otherwise, who would just hand money to someone for nothing? By the way, little sister, should we help clean up your other apartment later?”
Si Qiu tossed the rag back into the basin. “No need. I’ll have that one renovated and rent it out later. I already have a place—I live in the residential complex across the street.”
Everyone followed her gaze. It was a newly built complex with high-rise buildings and elevators. Though not far from this one, the price difference was significant.
As Shao Yang passed by, he gave her a thumbs-up.
After wiping under the sofa and moving it back into place, Zhou Chenyu shook out a towel and spread it over it, then pulled Si Qiu down to sit. “Take a break. Xiangzi and I will go throw out the trash.”
As soon as Tian Shuang heard this, she quickly put down what she was doing. “I’ll go along too—perfect chance to buy some fruit and drinks.”
Shao Yang pulled out the trash from behind the cabinet and stuffed it into a bag. “I’ll come as well. Otherwise, you two might not be able to carry everything downstairs.”
He grabbed a corner of the bag and headed out, while the other two also carried unwanted items downstairs.
Zhou Chenyu then sat beside Si Qiu, took her hand, and began to play with it. “Qiuqiu, my father and grandfather have arranged some courses for me to study. In a while, I might not be able to go to the seaside with you.”
Leaning against his shoulder, Si Qiu said, “Ah, so you’re not going?”
She felt a bit unhappy. After all, they had just confirmed their relationship, and she didn’t want to be apart. Her “love-brained” nature made her especially clingy toward her romantic partner.
A large part of why her previous relationships ended was because of this. Zhou Chenyu could also feel her attachment. Since they had just gotten together, he was reluctant to be apart too—and a little uneasy.
Lowering his gaze slightly, he said, “Then… do you want to stay as well? Didn’t you say you’re working on a small game? You could come to my place—everything you need, like a computer, is there.”
This suggestion came partly from his reluctance to be apart so soon after getting together, and partly because he was worried—if she went out with a group of people their age, she might come back no longer his girlfriend.
After all, Qiuqiu was pretty and sweet. Anyone with eyes could see that—it wouldn’t be strange for someone to fall for her.
“Is that okay? Wouldn’t it disturb your grandfather and the others?” Si Qiu was actually inclined to agree, but she still had to be considerate.
“It’s fine. At my grandfather’s house, it’s usually just him and me. My eldest uncle, aunt, and cousin are always busy working from early morning till late at night. My eldest cousin sister runs a company and is away on business trips, and my eldest cousin brother is in the military, so he rarely comes back. My second uncle is stationed in Germany as an ambassador—the whole family is over there. Whether they’ll come back this year is uncertain. That’s also why my grandfather wants me to enter politics—to assist my older brother.”
Si Qiu rubbed against his shoulder. “Alright, I’ll think about it. I don’t want to leave you either.”
Zhou Chenyu silently broke into a grin and, ignoring the heat, pulled her into his arms. In this life, Si Qiu was also enjoying this sweetness. It could be said that she savored the sweetness of every relationship during its first few months.
But men’s feelings seemed to decline over time. Before she had loved enough, they were already thinking of pulling away. So every breakup left her crying uncontrollably.
Fortunately, after everything she had experienced, she wouldn’t go to extremes, nor would she ever go back to an old relationship. The only way to heal was to move on to the next one.
Heavy breathing and the sound of footsteps climbing the stairs came from outside, and the two immediately separated. Zhou Chenyu quickly got up to open the door. The others had not only bought watermelon, but also cold drinks and some simple tableware.
Si Qiu hurried over to take them. “Thanks for your hard work! You three sit down and cool off—I’ll go wash the fruit.”
Zhou Chenyu said nothing, took the fruit, and went to wash it himself. Si Qiu washed the fruit plates and cups. Aside from the watermelon, the other fruits didn’t need peeling or cutting—just a rinse, and they were ready to serve.
Zhou Chenyu cut the watermelon while Si Qiu held a popsicle in each hand—taking a bite herself, then feeding him a bite.
The two were so sweet together that Tian Shuang, who came over to help, paused at the doorway, turned around, and went back to sit on the sofa.
Oblivious, Shao Yang asked, “What did you go over there for? Why’d you come back?”
He mainly asked because he wanted to eat watermelon—seeing that none had been brought over yet, he couldn’t help but ask.
