“What are your thoughts?”
This matter was directly related to Tang Shanshan, so of course I had to ask for her opinion first.
Tang Shanshan hesitated for a moment, her expression a little dazed. Finally, she looked at me with determination and said, “I’ll listen to you.”
Only then did I remember—although Tang Shanshan was financially comfortable from her rental income, she was completely alone. There was no one she could rely on or consult. Every decision had to be made by herself.
My gaze toward her softened. Suddenly, an impulse surged in my heart—I had to protect her for the rest of my life!
Gritting my teeth, I stepped forward and hugged her. She seemed completely caught off guard, like a startled deer…
She pushed me lightly once, then stopped resisting. Instead, she slowly leaned into my chest, her face turning so red it looked like it could drip water.
“You… you two…”
Suddenly, a familiar voice interrupted our moment. Startled, I immediately let go of her, and Tang Shanshan quickly slipped out of my arms, lowering her head and fiddling with her hair.
I turned around and saw Liu Xiaopeng standing on the stairwell, eyes wide as he stared at us. After a moment, as if he suddenly understood something, he narrowed his eyes and revealed a mischievous grin.
“Get lost!” I shouted at him, raising my hand as if to hit him—but the hallway was too narrow. I accidentally bumped into Tang Shanshan again, causing her to lose her balance and stumble backward.
I quickly grabbed her hand, steadying her.
“Hey, I skipped breakfast and was starving, but now I’m full. This dog food is enough to last me the whole day.” Liu Xiaopeng said as he casually opened the door and walked into the studio.
Tang Shanshan’s face instantly turned red. She ran toward her room upstairs, but I looked at her back and, for some reason, called out, “Let’s go eat breakfast together.”
She froze, then stopped. It seemed she suddenly remembered we hadn’t finished our previous conversation, so she came back down and went with me to breakfast.
We went to a nearby noodle shop downstairs and ordered two bowls of beef noodles, eating while discussing our next plan.
“That pretty-boy daoist promised me that once your condition stabilizes, he would help remove the yin energy inside you. We can’t delay this any longer—the sooner we act, the better. So I think we should go find him!” I said, slurping noodles and glancing at her.
Tang Shanshan was silent for a moment, then asked, “You… are you really willing to give him your family’s secret manual for me?”
I put down my chopsticks and shook my head. “It’s just a book. I already made a backup—I’ve got a copy on my USB drive. If you want, I can give you one too.”
Tang Shanshan seemed to expect something emotional from me, but my shameless answer disappointed her. Her expression changed immediately as she glared at me.
“Who cares about your broken thing!”
I sighed and returned to the serious topic.
“We’ll book a flight and leave today. You contact Zhu Zhu and see if she can arrange things in Hong Kong. Ideally, she can help us meet that pretty-boy daoist smoothly.”
Tang Shanshan nodded and, after a few bites, started calling Zhu Zhu. Meanwhile, I checked flight schedules on my phone and eventually confirmed a flight to Hong Kong at 10 p.m. that night.
Looking at the ticket price, I felt a bit of heartache—but fortunately, the payment from the haunted house job for Li Zi had already arrived.
Just as I gritted my teeth and was about to book the tickets, Tang Shanshan told me that Zhu Zhu would also be coming with us, and she would handle all arrangements—including the tickets.
I quickly withdrew my finger from the payment button, thinking that with the Zhu family’s young heiress as our sponsor, we’d probably be flying first class—maybe even a private jet.
Since the plan was set, we didn’t waste time. We each went back to pack, and I also notified Liu Xiaopeng to come along.
After spending so much time together, I had grown quite dependent on my “top-tier employee.” With him around, things would be easier to handle if anything went wrong.
Around 9 p.m., Zhu Zhu arrived downstairs with a driver to take us to the airport.
Although she had booked us first-class seats, I still couldn’t stop thinking about a private jet. So I took the opportunity in the car to ask her if her family had one.
The young lady from the Zhu family casually replied that her father was using the plane.
Just as I was sighing about how boring rich people’s lives were, we arrived at the airport.
After check-in and baggage drop, we waited at the gate—but even when boarding time came, the gate still hadn’t opened.
After a long while, an announcement over the airport speakers informed us that the flight had been delayed.
The VIP first-class lounge wasn’t crowded like the main terminal, but it was still quite boring. We each lay on the sofas and soon fell asleep.
I don’t know how long had passed when I suddenly felt a jolt beside me. I woke up and saw Tang Shanshan covered in cold sweat, her face pale.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, handing her a tissue.
She took it and wiped her forehead, then said, “I dreamed… the plane… it crashed…”
BOOM!
Before she could finish, a deafening roar drowned out her voice. The entire lounge began to violently shake.
I lost my balance and fell to the floor, and the others were no better.
At the same time, the glass windows of the lounge shattered, and countless shards shot toward us like bullets.
Alarmed, I instinctively activated the Golden Light Spell. A golden glow erupted from my body, enveloping all of us and blocking the flying glass fragments.
As I looked at the shattered glass all over the floor, I sat up and helped Tang Shanshan. Outside, the originally dark night sky looked as if it were burning—flames rose in the distance, thick smoke billowed upward, and airport staff were in complete chaos while fire engine sirens echoed through the sky.
I helped Tang Shanshan and Zhu Zhu up, and together with Liu Xiaopeng, we rushed out of the lounge.
The situation outside was even more chaotic. The glass walls facing the runway had completely shattered, and many waiting passengers had been injured by the debris.
The entire airport was now in emergency mode, with medical staff rushing stretchers to evacuate the wounded.
“It… it really crashed!” Tang Shanshan’s face turned even paler. She stared at me, her voice trembling.
Only then did I remember—just before the massive explosion, she had indeed said the words: “plane crash.”
