Miss Zhu Zhu was quite attentive to our matters. She immediately went back to make arrangements. About a day later, Zhu Zhu appeared at my office again, ready to take us to Baoyu Bank to verify the results.
We followed Zhu Zhu into the bank soon after. This was my first time entering the deepest internal area of a bank.
Accompanied by Zhu Zhu and several security guards, we passed through the main hall. Only then did I realize that, for our sake, the bank didn’t seem to be open to the public today.
We quickly reached the innermost part of the building and then took an elevator. I noticed the elevator only seemed to go downward, and immediately understood that the bank vault was located underground.
As the elevator doors opened, we entered the only underground vault in the city.
After walking through a long corridor, we finally saw the vault’s heavy door.
Four security guards stepped forward together, rotating the massive wheel on the door. A dull mechanical locking sound came from within. It took them a full five minutes before the door finally clicked open, pushed outward by some internal mechanism.
I looked at the thickness of the door—besides two reinforced steel plates nearly seventy to eighty centimeters thick, the interior was also filled with a large amount of black cement. It looked different from ordinary construction cement; I had no idea what had been added to it.
I originally thought that once the vault opened, I would see piles of cash or gold bars. But when the door opened halfway, I was completely stunned.
Inside the vault, there were none of the things I had imagined—but it wasn’t empty either.
Instead, Zhu Zhu had turned it into a pink, girly-themed room filled with a strong “young lady aesthetic.”
I couldn’t help but sigh inwardly—money really can make ghosts grind millstones.
“Miss, are you renovating a vault or something?” I stepped inside, stepping on the pink carpet, looking at the two sofas placed in the center of the vault.
“You all are going to be staying in here anyway, and no one knows how long you’ll be gone. I might as well make it comfortable for you—and for myself too,” Zhu Zhu said with a smile.
I spat lightly, “Miss, don’t jinx us. We’ll come back as fast as possible. No need for you to keep ‘accompanying’ us here.”
I walked around and noticed that Zhu Zhu had even moved in a gaming desk, chair, and computer setup. Was she planning to watch us while playing games on the side?
I circled around and looked at Liu Xiaopeng, signaling him with my eyes to ask what he thought.
Liu Xiaopeng examined it and nodded. Then, a little embarrassed, he looked at Zhu Zhu and said softly, “This time… really, thank you.”
Zhu Zhu’s big eyes rolled mischievously. Hearing this, she suppressed her laughter and deliberately said, “Who just spoke? I didn’t hear it, your voice was too soft.”
Liu Xiaopeng looked awkward.
At that moment, Shen Tu standing nearby was about to tease him again—but I glared at her, and she obediently shut her mouth.
“This door, honestly, it’s really solid. I think even you, as a Ghost Emperor, couldn’t punch through it. Believe it or not?” I said as I deliberately pulled Shen Tu a few steps outside.
Only then did Liu Xiaopeng gather his courage and walk over to sit beside Zhu Zhu, avoiding eye contact as he said, “I… I really thank you.”
“So why is it that after coming back, someone has been giving me cold looks… hmph, I can’t see any gratitude at all!” Zhu Zhu said, turning her head away in feigned anger.
Liu Xiaopeng became anxious. Although he had awakened his bloodline power and could now summon the Nine Sons of the Dragon, it still hadn’t changed his somewhat clumsy personality.
“I… I didn’t,” he finally stammered. “It’s just that what happened before made me lose my composure. I needed time to process it. And… and we’re about to do something even more dangerous. Bringing you into this… I was worried…”
“You idiot!” Zhu Zhu snapped. “I chose to get involved myself, so what’s the problem?”
As they talked, I suddenly felt the atmosphere becoming more and more strange. Worried that Zhu Zhu might actually get angry, I hurried over to smooth things out.
After finally changing the topic, we moved on to discussing the next stage of the plan.
“This place is more than enough to preserve our physical bodies. But… once our souls enter the underworld, what exactly do we need to do?” I asked, looking toward Shen Tu with my arms crossed.
Shen Tu slowly sat down on the sofa and stretched out her long legs. She was wearing a tight dress she had apparently bought somewhere recently, and her legs were almost entirely exposed—her figure was truly the kind of sight men dream about.
“The Ghost Gate is the first checkpoint of the underworld. It’s guarded by underworld soldiers. If you want to take the black jade from the Ghost Gate, the first thing you must consider is eliminating those guards without being detected. If the commotion is too big and alerts the rest of the underworld, it will cause unnecessary trouble,” Shen Tu said after thinking for a moment.
“How do we make it completely undetectable?” I asked. My knowledge of the underworld was only based on written records…
So everything had to rely on Shen Tu. That feeling—having everything controlled by this woman—made me very uncomfortable. But at this moment, we had no choice.
“First: disguise. Second: just go in and do it directly!” A trace of ruthlessness appeared in Shen Tu’s originally seductive eyes.
“How do we disguise ourselves?” Liu Xiaopeng also asked.
Shen Tu waved her hand, and a scaled-down image appeared in front of us. At first glance, it looked like a 3D projection map.
With her movement, the map zoomed in and focused on a single point. At the end of a boundless river and a road made of yellow sand stood a huge black stone stele engraved with three blood-red characters:
“Ghost Gate.”
Behind the stele stood a fortress-like structure resembling an ancient city gate, towering solemnly. Even in miniature form, it carried an oppressive aura.
“This is the Ghost Gate,” Shen Tu’s voice sounded. “Outside it lies the River of Oblivion and the Yellow Springs Road. After death, wandering souls must be guided by underworld enforcers across the River of Oblivion, then through the Yellow Springs Road, and finally enter the Ghost Gate.”
With her gesture, the projected map continued to shift.
“But if I take you in, it won’t be so troublesome. As long as you two separate your souls from your bodies, I can directly open the teleportation gate I left in Taozhi Mountain back then and bring you into the underworld.”
“Taizhi Mountain is less than twenty li north of the Ghost Gate,” Shen Tu added, waving her hand again. The map shifted from the Ghost Gate to a mountain range filled with peach trees to the north.
“And the disguise you mentioned?” I frowned and asked.
Shen Tu calmly raised her hand. Suddenly, something appeared in her palm.
I looked closely—and found it was a piece of yellow paper. There were several lines of writing on it, and at the bottom, it was stamped with several large red seals.
I stared at it in confusion and couldn’t help asking:
“This piece of paper… is what you call ‘disguise’?”
