Who would have known, the little gray dog suddenly struggled and escaped from Zhang Jiaohua’s hands, darting back into the bushes.
“What’s wrong with this silly dog today? Why is it so restless?” Zhang Jiaohua had no choice but to stop. If it brought out another nest of rabbits, he wouldn’t be able to carry them all in the bamboo basket.
However, the little gray dog kept barking vigorously, and soon the surrounding bushes were filled with its sound. Zhang Jiaohua couldn’t figure out where exactly the dog was, so he had to wait for its signal indicating it found prey.
Sure enough, not long after, the little gray dog emitted a very intense signal.
“There really is prey! This time, it might be another nest of rabbits. It’s troublesome, but I’m happy about it. I regret not bringing the little gray dog to the mountains earlier. We could have had more meat to eat,” Zhang Jiaohua thought to himself with a mix of happiness and annoyance.
Zhang Jiaohua put the bamboo basket aside and covered it with bushes to prevent the baby rabbits from running out. Then, he quickly headed towards where the little gray dog was barking.
However, this time, the barking of the little gray dog seemed strange. It sounded filled with fear. Unlike before, the little gray dog didn’t stay in one place but kept moving while barking. This made it difficult for Zhang Jiaohua to locate it, and it took him quite a while to reach the dog’s position. But when he finally saw what the little gray dog had found, Zhang Jiaohua’s heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
What a big prey!
It was a wild boar! And it was angered by the little gray dog’s barking.
This is bad! Zhang Jiaohua wished he could kick the little dog away. However, it was much faster than him, and its petite body allowed it to swiftly maneuver through the bushes, using them to block the wild boar’s advance. But Zhang Jiaohua couldn’t!
Zhang Jiaohua rushed over, panting heavily, but as soon as he appeared, the wild boar noticed him. Unable to catch the annoying little dog, the wild boar redirected its rage towards Zhang Jiaohua, charging at him furiously.
An enraged wild boar, more terrifying than a wolf! Zhang Jiaohua, seeing the wild boar charging towards him, turned pale. “I’m done for!” he thought.
Of course, Zhang Jiaohua wouldn’t stand there waiting for death. He turned around and ran as fast as he could, although his escape was quite awkward. However, he remembered to zigzag his way down the mountain because wild boars usually run straight and might trip over while making turns. But Zhang Jiaohua, being small and with short legs, couldn’t run fast, especially with the obstacles of the bushes slowing him down. He was slower than the wild boar, which charged straight ahead.
Though Zhang Jiaohua was in a desperate situation, he remained calm. Unlike an ordinary seven-year-old, he showed remarkable wit in this critical moment. While fleeing, he recited a new spell.
“Tian Fan Fan, Di Fan Fan, Laojun transmits orders, disciple is given slippery oil, following the slippery oil mountain thirty-three thousand, fingers slide one mountain after another… Sliding continuously until tomorrow, respectfully asking for the Southern Dipper Six Stars, Northern Dipper Seven Stars, I serve the Supreme Laojun urgently.”
With that, Zhang Jiaohua suddenly slid down to the ground, his buttocks sliding like on a slide, directly sliding down the mountain. He slid about five or six meters and saw the dumbfounded little gray dog. Zhang Jiaohua grabbed the little gray dog and slid down together, like a bamboo raft drifting downstream.
The wild boar chased closely behind. However, just a few steps into the chase, it slipped and tumbled down the mountain like a round ball. Rolling halfway down, it crashed into a big black rock. It knocked itself out cold.
Zhang Jiaohua and the little gray dog slid all the way to the foot of the mountain. Zhang Jiaohua thought his pants would surely be torn from the slide, but to his surprise, they remained intact. He looked back up the mountain and saw that the wild boar hadn’t followed them, nor did he hear its sound again. It must have gone away. Zhang Jiaohua didn’t dare to abandon the bamboo basket and the machete. If he did, and went back empty-handed, he would probably get beaten up by some woman again.
