“Quick, answer the phone and see when they’ll be arriving.” Tang Juxiang was even more anxious than Zhang Jiaohua. The phone rang a few times, but Zhang Jiaohua didn’t answer, and Tang Juxiang grew even more anxious.
Zhang Jiaohua answered the phone but hadn’t spoken yet when Chen Cheng from the other side was already rushing to speak.
“I’m at your school gate now, where is the event being held?” Chen Cheng asked.
“In the auditorium. You can ask the security guard, it’s not far once you walk in,” Zhang Jiaohua replied.
“Wait, I’ll come meet you.” Tang Juxiang quickly said.
“Chen Cheng, wait there, Teacher Tang and I will come to meet you.” Zhang Jiaohua had to change her words.
“Alright.” Chen Cheng replied.
Tang Juxiang didn’t know the relationship between Zhang Jiaohua and Chen Cheng, so she thought Zhang Jiaohua was just familiar with Chen Cheng because of their performance in The Great Tomb and hadn’t realized how close they were. She still worried about possibly neglecting Chen Cheng and others. She accompanied Zhang Jiaohua out to greet them, also showing respect to Chen Cheng and the others.
When Zhang Jiaohua and Tang Juxiang arrived at the school gate, Chen Cheng, Tang Yan, and Chen Haibo were already there, along with many other crew members. As soon as they saw Zhang Jiaohua approaching, they all smiled with joy.
“Jiaohua, we’re not late, are we?” Chen Haibo asked.
“You’re just in time. The event has barely started. I was going to have you perform the closing act, but Teacher Tang said they’ll be arranging a performance for you soon. Do you have anything prepared?” Zhang Jiaohua asked.
“Unfortunately, you didn’t bring the leopard, otherwise, we could have just shown our behind-the-scenes from The Great Tomb,” Tang Yan joked.
“You didn’t say anything earlier, now it’s too late.” Zhang Jiaohua obviously couldn’t transform the leopard, the fat cat, and the chubby monkey from the cultivation diagram in front of everyone.
“So, we prepared another performance. Don’t worry, Yan Jie and Cheng Cheng are both talented. With them, we won’t have to worry about a bad show. We won’t embarrass you,” Chen Haibo said.
Tang Juxiang could tell that Zhang Jiaohua had a special relationship with these people. No wonder she was so confident that she could bring these big stars here. While Zhang Jiaohua was talking to Chen Cheng and the others, she couldn’t interrupt and could only stand aside feeling anxious. When they finally finished talking, she quickly said, “Haibo, Yan, Cheng Cheng, should we go to the backstage of the auditorium now? A resting room has been prepared for you, so you can rest there. When you’re ready, I’ll go up and arrange your performance.”
“You’re the teacher, not us. We’re just Jiaohua’s classmates now,” Tang Yan smiled.
“Then we’ll follow Teacher Tang’s arrangement and go in first,” Chen Haibo said.
Tang Juxiang never expected Zhang Jiaohua to bring so many people, and the resting room prepared for them was so crowded.
“The conditions are a bit simple, please bear with us,” Tang Juxiang quickly said.
“It’s alright. Teacher Tang, you go ahead and be busy. We’ll prepare the performance. When we’re ready, you can arrange our appearance,” Chen Haibo said.
“Alright, alright,” Tang Juxiang said and then left.
“Xu Xiaoting, do you think Zhang Jiaohua can really bring Chen Cheng and them over?” Li Wenjuan asked.
“Of course, she can. Zhang Jiaohua isn’t the type to boast,” Xu Xiaoting replied.
“How do you know?” Li Wenjuan laughed.
Xu Xiaoting immediately became anxious, “During the last fifty days of the third year, he came to our class. He jumped directly from first year, and there was a long period where he didn’t attend school. Everyone thought he’d drag the class down, but who knew he made a stunning breakthrough and ended up with the top score in the city to get into the fourth high school.”
“Wow, that’s amazing?” Li Wenjuan’s eyes widened.
“Just now, when Teacher Tang called Jiaohua, was it because Tang Yan and the others arrived?” Xu Xiaoting looked back and noticed that Zhang Jiaohua was no longer at her previous spot. Although it was far away, Xu Xiaoting had been paying attention to Zhang Jiaohua’s position, so she immediately noticed it was empty.
“Look, Teacher Tang came out from backstage with a smile. They must have arrived,” Li Wenjuan pointed ahead and said excitedly.
“Shall we secretly go to the backstage to take a look?” Xu Xiaoting asked.
“I’m not going. Now that the big stars are here, someone will definitely be guarding backstage. If we can’t get in, this good spot will be taken by someone else. I’m not going to make such a silly mistake,” Li Wenjuan quickly shook her head.
Xu Xiaoting thought it made sense and didn’t dare to wander around.
When the program on stage finished, the host immediately walked to the center of the stage with a big smile, “Next, we have the performance that everyone is eagerly awaiting, called The Tale of the Great Tomb’s Laughter. Performers: Chen Haibo, Tang Yan, Chen Cheng, Zhang Jiaohua…”
As soon as the host announced Chen Haibo’s name, everyone stood up, cheering in disbelief. Every time a name was called, the audience cheered.
“It’s the original cast from The Great Tomb, only that Zhou Heming didn’t come,” someone shouted.
Those familiar with The Great Tomb recognized it was the original crew, even though not all of them were here. At least most of the main characters had arrived. Just having one person would make the students excited, so when so many came, how could they not be thrilled?
Chen Haibo appeared from the center of the stage, holding a hoe, looking around as he stepped out. “Good thing I’m a descendant of the Tomb Raiders, otherwise, I wouldn’t have made it in.”
Before anyone could respond, Zhang Jiaohua made a door-opening gesture from the side and walked in. The two collided and immediately began fighting.
“You’re dead!” Chen Haibo shouted.
“Wait, it’s like flooding the Dragon King’s temple, family fighting family,” Zhang Jiaohua quickly shouted.
“Jiaohua, didn’t I tell you not to come in? What if someone else arrives?” Chen Haibo glared at Zhang Jiaohua.
“I’ve been waiting for you for days, how long do you want me to wait?” Zhang Jiaohua said unhappily.
“Days? Uh, it’s been a long dig, mainly because the ground structure is so solid. I really don’t understand, how did the ancient people use concrete?” Chen Haibo was extremely frustrated.
“What ancient people? The house you’re digging clearly hasn’t been repaired for many years. The ground froze with cement, how can you dig?” Zhang Jiaohua said irritably.
“How did you get in?” Chen Haibo was confused.
“I just pushed open the door and walked in,” Zhang Jiaohua said.
“The door wasn’t closed?” Chen Haibo was completely dumbfounded.
“It wasn’t closed. I just pushed and it opened,” Zhang Jiaohua said.
Next, Tang Yan and Chen Cheng appeared, and their arrival immediately caused a cheer from the audience.
Then, following the plot, all the crew members came out. Although it was a short stage play, it sparked a lot of imagination.
At first, the event was a bit chaotic, but Chen Haibo quickly said, “Dear students of the Fourth High School, we are so happy that everyone loves our carefully prepared performance. Our performance has ended, but we’ll stay here to enjoy the performances prepared by other students. They’ve prepared even more amazing shows, so please continue supporting them.”
With that, the order on the scene stabilized, and the group quickly retreated backstage. The program on stage continued, but everyone had already lost interest in watching.
“Ah, youth is really wonderful,” Chen Haibo sighed as he returned backstage.
“Stinky cat, you make it sound like you’re really old,” Tang Yan laughed.
“I’m not old, and neither are you,” Chen Haibo grinned, “Jiaohua, with your acting skills, not becoming an actor is a waste.”
Chen Cheng immediately said, “Jiaohua is the top student in the city, such an achievement would be wasted as an actor.”
Chen Haibo nodded, “Yeah, it would be wasted.”
“Don’t look at how we actors appear glamorous on the screen, to some people, we’re just performers,” Tang Yan said with deep emotion.
“Forget it, forget it. Talking about it makes me tear up. Let’s not talk about it,” Chen Haibo knew Tang Yan was thinking about the past, a heartbreaking love story where she almost married into a rich family but ultimately gave up. As an old friend, he didn’t want her to open old wounds.
“It’s alright. It’s all in the past,” Tang Yan smiled, showing indifference to life and forgetting the past.
“I think you all should leave now. Otherwise, when the event ends, it won’t be so easy to leave,” Zhang Jiaohua reminded them.
“Yes, yes, let’s hurry and leave. Jiaohua, if you have events like this in the future, just ask. As long as we can come, we definitely won’t refuse. We really enjoy reliving this kind of campus life. It’s the purest time of life. Once we enter society, with all kinds of people and things, we slowly start wearing masks to do everything. Tonight, I feel like this is the most relaxed and invested performance in my career,” Tang Yan said, holding Zhang Jiaohua’s hand.
Chen Haibo also said, “If you treat us as friends, just call out. Whether or not it’s possible, I’ll come right away.”
“Alright, I’ll definitely call you if something comes up. If you have anything, you can call me too,” Zhang Jiaohua nodded.
Chen Cheng walked at the back and turned to Zhang Jiaohua, “You’re all alone in Beijing. Are you getting used to it? Do you miss home? If you need anything, remember to look for me.”
Zhang Jiaohua nodded, “If you run into any problems, remember to find me. Otherwise, your crazy dad will look for me.”
Mentioning Chen Dianzhi, Chen Haibo and Tang Yan couldn’t help but laugh. He was a real character!
Chen Cheng was helpless and rolled her eyes at Zhang Jiaohua, “Stop calling him ‘Crazy Chen,’ that’s my dad.”
“I don’t know your dad’s real name. I only know to call him ‘Crazy Chen,’” Zhang Jiaohua scratched his head.
“I’m not talking to you anymore,” Chen Cheng stomped her foot and ran off. Chen Haibo and Tang Yan tried to hold back their laughter and waved goodbye to Zhang Jiaohua as they left.
Zhang Jiaohua quickly chased after them, “Hey, next time bring some signed photos! Many people in our class have been asking for your signed photos!”
