“Leave the rest to me. Dr. Zhang, have a good rest.” Hou Yongyuan was very polite to Zhang Jiaohua, showing no sign of underestimating him due to his young age.
“Alright, I’ll leave this to you. I’ll be going now.” Zhang Jiaohua completely ignored Chen Hongyi and the others, turning around and walking away.
“Dr. Zhang.” Chen Hongyi hurried after him, wanting to apologize.
But Zhang Jiaohua acted as if he hadn’t heard him and strode off.
“Forget it. Even if you catch up to him now, you won’t earn his forgiveness. Since you chose to let him treat the patient, you should have given him full trust. You went back on your word, and now you expect him to forgive you? Do you realize how much danger your recklessness has brought to the injured comrade?” Hou Yongyuan said coldly.
Chen Hongyi’s face turned red with shame. “I was too anxious just now. Dr. Hou, how is Xiaolu?”
“He’s out of danger. Right now, he’s just physically weak. Once he recovers, he should wake up. Sigh, you have no idea how difficult it is to get a folk miracle doctor like Zhang Jiaohua to help. Yet you foolishly ruined the relationship. Don’t expect him to ever help you again.” Hou Yongyuan sighed.
Chen Hongyi deeply regretted his actions. He had insisted for so long, yet hesitated at the last critical moment. He had originally hoped to use this opportunity to mend misunderstandings with Zhang Jiaohua, but instead, his recklessness had worsened their conflict.
Hou Yongyuan wasn’t an ordinary doctor either. After he applied acupuncture, it wasn’t long before Lu Cunyang regained consciousness.
“Captain, I have disgraced Wolf God this time. I failed to complete the mission.” Lu Cunyang looked at Chen Hongyi with shame.
“The mission was leaked by a mole before we even carried it out. By the time I found out, it was too late. Fortunately, you managed to break through the encirclement. But when you returned, you were hit by the enemy’s vicious attack. If not for Zhang Jiaohua and Dr. Hou’s intervention, you would have died,” Chen Hongyi explained.
“Zhang Jiaohua was here?” Lu Cunyang looked around but didn’t see Zhang Jiaohua.
“He already left. It was my fault—I was too reckless earlier and nearly put you in danger again. I also offended Zhang Jiaohua once more. From now on, getting his help will be incredibly difficult. Sigh, this is all on me.” Chen Hongyi was filled with regret. He knew that if they had Zhang Jiaohua’s assistance, it would be invaluable to Wolf God.
After hearing what had happened, Lu Cunyang also felt regretful. “Captain, you can’t blame yourself entirely. If I were in your place, I would have been just as anxious and probably made an irrational decision too. Still, we really owe Zhang Jiaohua an apology.”
When Zhang Jiaohua returned to Gulu Ba Hutong, Wu Yuan hadn’t come back yet. He was busy as ever, usually getting home around eleven or twelve at night. Every morning, he had to wake up early to complete his Meishan stake training before rushing to the restaurant. It was exhausting. Everyone had thought he wouldn’t last, but surprisingly, he had stuck with it.
Zhang Jiaohua entered the Dao Cultivation Diagram and saw that inside, the leopard was still in the pear field, continuously scattering seeds.
“Hmm? What kind of seeds are these?” Zhang Jiaohua was curious. The moment this thought crossed his mind, he suddenly found himself in a very peculiar space.
“Jiaohua, you came in too? That’s great!” The leopard, now in the form of a little child, suddenly pounced on Zhang Jiaohua. Zhang Jiaohua, however, looked the same as he did outside, unlike the leopard, who had undergone a huge transformation.
The fat cat and the chubby monkey, both transformed into round little figures, also jumped down from the waterwheel and ran excitedly toward Zhang Jiaohua.
“Jiaohua! Jiaohua!”
“Jiaohua is here! This is great!”
“Leopard, what kind of seeds were you just scattering?” Zhang Jiaohua asked curiously.
“I don’t know either. When I got here, these seeds were just here.” The leopard handed a seed to Zhang Jiaohua.
Looking at the single seed in the leopard’s hand, Zhang Jiaohua immediately recognized it—it was millet. Suddenly, he remembered the old song the leopard had sung before:
“The iron ox plows the field, planting money,
Children carve stone, threading them through.
A single grain of millet contains a world,
A half-pot of rice can boil a kingdom.”
Turning to look at the field, Zhang Jiaohua was stunned. In just a short moment, the millet had already grown into seedlings, continuing to grow at a visible rate. At this speed, it wouldn’t be long before the millet flowered and was ready for harvest. Considering how many days had passed, who knew how many times the millet had been harvested in this cultivation space? But where did the harvested millet go?
“Leopard,” Zhang Jiaohua smacked the leopard’s butt with a loud smack.
The leopard didn’t mind at all. “What?”
“Where did the millet you harvested go?” Zhang Jiaohua had already searched everywhere and hadn’t seen any sign of stored millet.
“It’s all in the soil.” The leopard replied.
Looking at the land, Zhang Jiaohua noticed something unusual. Initially, the soil had been ordinary yellow earth, but now it had turned black, looking incredibly fertile.
“You little rascal, you didn’t even think about storing the grain. You just let it enrich the soil instead!” Zhang Jiaohua chuckled.
The leopard scratched his head. “You never told me I needed to store it. Besides, there’s nowhere to put it.” He then ran over, picked up a matured millet plant, placed it on the ground, and watched as it instantly melted into the soil.
Zhang Jiaohua scratched his head—there really wasn’t much he could do. He still didn’t understand the fundamental rules of this cultivation space.
Meanwhile, the fat cat ran quickly to the stream, jumped in, and fished out a live fish, then ran over to Zhang Jiaohua, cradling the fish in its arms.
Zhang Jiaohua took the fish in his hands. It was indeed alive, resembling a carp but not quite the same. It was beautiful and weighed about two pounds. Strangely, instead of struggling, the fish arched its body and gazed at Zhang Jiaohua, appearing to enjoy being held.
“Heh, this fish is pretty strange,” Zhang Jiaohua chuckled.
The chubby monkey got anxious and quickly ran up a nearby tree. In no time, it plucked a peach and brought it back. Zhang Jiaohua was even more surprised—there was actually a peach tree growing here!
The Dao Cultivation Diagram had somehow manifested millet, fish in the water, and now a peach tree. Suddenly, a thought struck Zhang Jiaohua: The interaction of Yin and Yang gives birth to all things. Could these mysterious new elements have been generated through the fusion of Yin and Yang energies?
The peach was smooth and shiny, so large that he couldn’t grasp it with one hand. It looked incredibly clean. Zhang Jiaohua took a bite and was immediately astonished by the taste—an indescribably exquisite sweetness. It was a flavor that seemed beyond the realm of mortal food, something that only the peaches of an immortal paradise could possess.
“I wonder what will happen to these fish and peaches if they’re taken outside?” Zhang Jiaohua murmured to himself.
Of course, the leopard, the chubby monkey, and the fat cat couldn’t answer his questions. For them, the appearance of these things felt completely natural, as if they had never questioned their origin.
Holding the half-eaten peach in one hand, Zhang Jiaohua suddenly sensed his consciousness shift back to the real world. To his amazement, he was still holding the bitten peach in one hand, while the other hand clutched a fish. Even his palm had a single millet grain stuck to it.
“Huh? I really can bring things out?” Zhang Jiaohua scratched his head in bewilderment. The Dao Cultivation Diagram existed within his mind—how could there be actual living things inside? Were they formed from spiritual energy?
He pondered for a long time but couldn’t figure it out.
Meanwhile, the beautiful fish in his hand remained still, but now that it was outside, it seemed somewhat uncomfortable. It smacked its lips at Zhang Jiaohua, looking pitiful.
“Hey, Jiaohua, why aren’t you asleep this late? You have school tomorrow. And why are you holding a koi fish?” Wu Yuan asked as he walked in. He found it strange—normally, by this time, Zhang Jiaohua would already be in bed.
“This is a koi?” Zhang Jiaohua asked.
“Yeah, a koi. This one has great markings; it could sell for a lot of money,” Wu Yuan said, taking a closer look. He had dabbled in many things before, even if none of them seriously, so he had at least some knowledge.
“This fish isn’t for sale,” Zhang Jiaohua quickly replied. Something from the Dao Cultivation Diagram—how could he just sell it?
“If you like it, you can keep it. I’ll get you a fish tank tomorrow,” Wu Yuan assumed Zhang Jiaohua wanted to raise it as a pet.
“No need. I have a place to keep it,” Zhang Jiaohua said, shaking his head. With a casual wave, he sent the koi back into the Dao Cultivation Diagram.
“Where’s the fish?” Wu Yuan’s eyes widened as he searched around.
“It’s back where it belongs,” Zhang Jiaohua said mysteriously.
“Is this some kind of magic?” Wu Yuan was still skeptical and kept looking around.
Zhang Jiaohua just chuckled. “I’m going to sleep.”
“Hey, Jiaohua, what kind of spell was that?” Wu Yuan called after him.
“I’ll tell you once you pass my test,” Zhang Jiaohua giggled.
Wu Yuan scratched his head. “That koi really was worth a lot of money.”
Back in his room, Zhang Jiaohua re-entered the Dao Cultivation Diagram and released the koi into the stream. As soon as it touched the water, it began to leap joyfully. Then, out of nowhere, a whole school of koi surged from the water, jumping energetically.
The fat cat and the chubby monkey quickly stepped onto the Yin-Yang Mystic Wheel, causing the stream to reverse its flow. The koi immediately swam against the current, racing upward.
Zhang Jiaohua scratched his head. The Dao Cultivation Diagram had been his own visualization, yet now it was becoming increasingly unfamiliar.
The chubby monkey then proudly brought him another peach, watching eagerly as Zhang Jiaohua took a bite. Only after Zhang Jiaohua ate it did the monkey happily hop back onto the Yin-Yang Mystic Wheel.
