“How could you walk on water?” Fu Cha Hao Yue asked.

“No, I swam across. Big sister, are you seeing things?” Zhang Jiaohua smiled.

Fu Cha Hao Yue widened her eyes. She had clearly seen it, so how could she have been wrong? But now that she looked more carefully, Zhang Jiaohua was soaking wet, obviously from being in the water. She started to feel some doubt. Could it be that she had been too eager for someone to save Jiaying and Xiaobin that her eyes had deceived her?

“Where are you? Where are the people?” Zhao Jue and the others rushed over.

“Wait, don’t come over. They’re fine now!” Fu Cha Hao Yue quickly shouted. Although Xiaobin and Jiaying were wearing swimsuits, they were in such a state that it would be too embarrassing for them to approach. Fu Cha Hao Yue hadn’t thought about how inconvenient Zhang Jiaohua’s presence might be.

Wei Jun was immediately upset, “Can you not make things worse? Fine, I don’t want to deal with it. After all the effort I put in to catch a few fish, you all shout like this and spoil everything.”

They had run too hastily earlier, and Wei Jun had kicked the bucket of fish into the river. The few fish they had caught were now gone. When they arrived and were told it was all a misunderstanding, he was really upset.

He Dongsheng quickly apologized, “Sorry, sorry. When we get back to Beijing, I’ll treat everyone to a meal to make up for it.”

“Forget it. Dongsheng, I’m not saying this to you, but you take them seriously, but they don’t care about you. They are who they are, and you are who you are. Between us brothers, don’t be so distant. I’m just feeling sorry for you. Got it?” Wei Jun patted He Dongsheng’s shoulder.

Zhao Jue, however, remained calm, “Hao Yue, what happened just now? Are they really alright?”

Fu Cha Hao Yue replied, “They accidentally swam into a whirlpool. Luckily, a fellow villager saved them. They’re still unconscious, but there’s no major problem. They’ll be fine in a while. We’ll come over later.”

“You all be careful,” Zhao Jue finally relaxed, but as he was about to move, he suddenly thought, “Hmm? Fellow villager? Male or female?” Zhao Jue didn’t really care whether Jiaying and Xiaobin were unconscious; as long as they were fine, it was no big deal. He wouldn’t mind if Liu Jiaying suffered a little.

“Hao Yue, who’s this fellow villager?” Zhao Jue quickly asked.

“A villager passing by. Luckily, he came quickly, or Xiaobin and Jiaying could have been in danger,” Fu Cha Hao Yue suddenly realized. Although Zhang Jiaohua seemed young, he was still a boy.

“Then let me take a look,” Zhao Jue said, walking over.

Fu Cha Hao Yue hurriedly covered Wang Xiaobin and Liu Jiaying with clothes.

Zhang Jiaohua was nearly fourteen and was still somewhat naïve about relationships between men and women. Seeing Wang Xiaobin and Liu Jiaying’s figures, he started to feel a little dry-mouthed. Boys at this age begin to have some fantasies about women.

When Zhao Jue came over, he immediately saw the naked Zhang Jiaohua. “Hao Yue, is this the boy who saved Liu Jiaying and Wang Xiaobin?”

Fu Cha Hao Yue had already covered Wang Xiaobin and Liu Jiaying with clothes and turned to Zhao Jue, “Yes, if he had come a little later, it might have been too late.”

“Are they really fine?” Zhao Jue casually asked.

“They’re fine. They just held their breath for a bit, but they should be okay,” Fu Cha Hao Yue could tell that Liu Jiaying and Wang Xiaobin were fine. Their breathing was steady, they were just a bit frightened. When Zhao Jue and the others arrived, they had already woken up. Although they pretended to be unconscious, their eyelashes kept fluttering. Fu Cha Hao Yue understood that they were just too embarrassed to face Zhao Jue and the others, so she didn’t mention it.

Zhao Jue asked casually, then turned his attention fully to Zhang Jiaohua, “Hello. We are tourists from Beijing. Are you a local?”

Zhang Jiaohua nodded, “My home is not too far from here. Be careful when bathing in the river; there are many whirlpools like this. Once you get caught in one, it’s hard to escape.”

“Can you lead us out of here? We can pay you for your help,” Zhao Jue said.

Zhang Jiaohua shook his head, “I still have to travel.”

“Travel? Where are you going?” Fu Cha Hao Yue asked.

Zhang Jiaohua shook his head, “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know? Did you run away from home?” Zhao Jue laughed and pointed at Zhang Jiaohua, guessing he had run away.

Zhang Jiaohua shook his head, “I talked it over with my parents, I just don’t know where I’m going yet.”

“Impossible. You don’t even know where you’re going, how could your parents let you leave? You should still be in high school at your age,” Fu Cha Hao Yue asked in surprise.

“My parents definitely didn’t agree. But I want to go see the world outside the mountain. I’m sure I’ll find the place I need to go,” Zhang Jiaohua said.

Zhao Jue’s heart moved, and he smiled, “Since you don’t have a destination yet, why don’t you come with us to Beijing? Maybe when you get to Beijing, you’ll find out that the place you needed to go was actually Beijing. What do you think? Come with us, we’ll cover all your travel, food, and lodging costs, as long as you help us out of these mountains.”

Zhang Jiaohua thought for a moment, then nodded, “I’ll first get you out of here. Whether or not I go to Beijing, I won’t decide right now.” He looked at Zhao Jue and the others, then agreed.

It seemed like they had used up all their luck earlier. Wei Jun and He Dongsheng had been fishing for a while but had caught nothing. Wei Jun was so frustrated that he wanted to throw his fishing rod into the river.

Zhao Jue led Zhang Jiaohua to where Wei Jun and He Dongsheng were fishing. “How’s it going? Caught anything?”

“Don’t even talk about it. I think we’ve used up all our luck. We haven’t caught a single one,” Wei Jun complained.

“I’ll do it,” Zhang Jiaohua said.

“Who’s this?” Wei Jun and He Dongsheng looked at Zhang Jiaohua next to Zhao Jue in confusion.

“A local villager from near Meishan. He’ll help us get out of here. If it weren’t for him passing by earlier, Liu Jiaying and Wang Xiaobin would’ve been in trouble,” Zhao Jue explained.

“Ah, they’re fine, right?” He Dongsheng immediately put down his fishing rod and headed straight for where Fu Cha Hao Yue and the others were.

Wei Jun looked at Zhang Jiaohua and felt he was still very young. “Can you fish?”

“A little,” Zhang Jiaohua nodded.

“Alright, use that fishing rod,” Wei Jun said, pointing to the rod that He Dongsheng had left on the ground.
