Chen Cheng’s family—mother and two daughters—didn’t sleep the entire night. It was unclear what they talked about, but perhaps they were trying to fill in the gaps of their mother-daughter bond lost over the years.

Morning came, and it was a bright sunny day. The vibrant sunshine bathed the quaint town of Gezhuping, instantly infusing the rustic town with newfound energy.

Zhang Jiaohua, who was curious to see the story’s conclusion, was dragged back to Meizi’ao by Liu Qiaoye yesterday by his ear. Early in the morning, he went to practice martial arts at Heishiyan. Meanwhile, Chen Dianzi unexpectedly appeared on the mountaintop Zhang Jiaohua had staked as his territory.

“Did Fenglian meet her mother?” Chen Dianzi asked a strangely enigmatic question.

“She did! Oh, by the way, your ex-wife was gorgeous. No wonder you couldn’t hold onto her,” the little brat replied in a way that could infuriate anyone, yet Chen Dianzi simply chuckled.

“You’ll grow up one day, but don’t expect to marry someone as pretty as my wife.”

“What’s the use of being pretty? She’s married to someone else now, isn’t she? You’re such a disgrace to our Shui Clan!” Zhang Jiaohua retorted disdainfully, casting a look at Chen Dianzi.

“There are things you don’t understand.” Chen Dianzi didn’t seem bothered by Zhang Jiaohua’s words.

“What’s the use of your understanding? Your wife came, and you didn’t even dare to meet her. If it were me, I’d march into Gezhuping and ask her why she ran off with another man back then,” Zhang Jiaohua said.

“If you dare insult my wife again, Zhang Jiaohua, I’ll beat you up! Got it?” While Chen Dianzi remained unfazed by Zhang Jiaohua’s teasing, the moment his wife was insulted, he exploded, clenching his fists and glaring at Zhang Jiaohua.

“Bring it on! Who’s afraid of who?” Zhang Jiaohua wasn’t one to back down, raising his tiny fists to prepare for a fight.

Chen Dianzi’s expression softened, and he sighed. Then, he swiftly descended the cliff.

“Hey! Where are you going? Weren’t we going to fight? I’m ready anytime!” Zhang Jiaohua shouted at Chen Dianzi’s retreating figure.

In truth, Zhang Jiaohua felt a bit unsure inside. He wasn’t confident he could beat Chen Dianzi, who had never shown his true strength. Yet, Zhang Jiaohua knew that Chen Dianzi was no pushover—years ago, he had fought the Wolf King and survived alone in Meishan for ages before returning unscathed. That wasn’t something just anyone could do.

“I’m heading out for a while. If someone comes looking for me, tell her not to. Just say Chen Dianzi is already dead,” Chen Dianzi’s voice echoed from afar.

“Are you scared of your wife, Chen Dianzi? You coward!” Zhang Jiaohua yelled, hands on his hips, at Chen Dianzi’s fading silhouette.

“Whiz!”

A rock shot through the air, aiming directly at Zhang Jiaohua’s two front teeth.

Zhang Jiaohua rolled on the ground just in time, barely dodging the stone that flew like a bullet. The rock soared over his head and struck a boulder behind him, shattering it into powder.

“Chen Dianzi, you sneaky jerk! You almost got me!” Zhang Jiaohua cursed loudly.

That day, three women arrived in the village—Chen Fang and her two daughters.

Lin Hongfang was panicking. Ever since she heard yesterday morning that Chen Fenglian had gone to Gezhuping to reunite with her birth mother, she had a sinking feeling that she was about to lose the daughter she had raised with so much effort.

That night, Lin Hongfang tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. “I can’t lose this daughter. She’s my lifeblood!”

Years ago, when she first agreed to care for her sister-in-law’s daughter to help her return to the city, she thought she’d only keep the child temporarily until her sister-in-law had settled down. But after just a few days, Lin Hongfang found herself deeply attached to the child.
