“Weren’t you supposed to bring your hunting dog? Where is it?” Cai Kaiming asked.
“It’s here, outside,” Zhang Jiaohua replied.
“It won’t bite, will it?” Cai Kaiming said with some concern.
“Don’t worry. My dog doesn’t bite randomly. As long as you don’t provoke it, it definitely won’t bite,” Zhang Jiaohua said, quite confident about that.
“Let’s go see where your dog is.” Cai Kaiming was very interested in the hunting dog.
Zhang Jiaohua had no choice but to satisfy Cai Kaiming’s curiosity.
“Didn’t you ask me to prepare a doghouse for you? I built a little shed and put it next to our dorm building. You can’t keep a dog in the student dorms here,” Cai Kaiming said, taking this matter quite seriously. Of course, the main reason for Cai Kaiming’s concern was the recent series of thefts at the teachers’ dormitory.
Zhang Jiaohua walked out of the dormitory and whistled, and the mountain leopard suddenly appeared, though it was unclear where it had been hiding just now. It always managed to conceal itself; unless Zhang Jiaohua called, it was very difficult to find its trace.
It looked like an ordinary native dog, but Cai Kaiming sensed a kind of aura in the mountain leopard that ordinary dogs didn’t possess. He didn’t understand dogs, let alone hunting dogs or mountain dogs. The mountain leopard was known for daring to confront wolf packs directly; even the wolf king would have a hard time against the mountain leopard. Frequent hunting in the deep mountains had given it an aura of killing intent. Any prey within the influence of the mountain leopard would be frightened by this aura.
“This dog really is a bit different,” Cai Kaiming thought, not daring to get too close to the mountain leopard, feeling that if he did, he might be bitten at any moment.
“Of course it’s different. I’m raising a mountain dog. It’s hard to explain,” Zhang Jiaohua inadvertently let a hint of disdain slip into his tone.
“Hey, why don’t you tell me more? Let’s see whether I understand or not,” Cai Kaiming smiled.
“Fine, a mountain dog is not an ordinary native dog. It’s very special and much smarter than regular dogs. The mountain dogs trained by the Meishan Water Army have a unique ability: they have super strong senses of smell for prey in the mountains, and a strong mountain dog won’t lose even against wolves. Legend has it that if you gather twenty-four mountain dogs of various colors, even tigers will avoid them due to their aura,” Zhang Jiaohua said with a sense of pride, but unfortunately, he still hadn’t managed to gather a sufficient number of mountain dogs. He didn’t want to trade with that Meishan Water Army member who had come to the village last time.
“Is it really that impressive?” Cai Kaiming found it hard to believe that twenty-four mountain dogs could deal with a tiger.
“Of course! My mountain dog has faced a pack of big wolves,” Zhang Jiaohua was a bit displeased with Cai Kaiming’s skepticism.
“We’re here. What do you think of this doghouse?” Cai Kaiming quickly changed the subject.
Zhang Jiaohua looked at the doghouse made of wooden planks and nodded, “It’s okay, Leopard, you’ll live here from now on. Be careful not to let thieves take you away.”
“Woof woof!” The mountain leopard was very displeased. Who could get close to it?
The chickens raised by the teachers in the dormitory were only let out during the day; at night, they were all moved inside. Compared to before, the hallway was much more spacious.
Zhang Jiaohua patted the mountain leopard on the head and turned back to the dormitory.
The next day after school, a few young people from society came to the school and started playing basketball on the court.
The young people looked to be of high school age. When they saw Zhang Jiaohua and his friends walking over with a basketball, they menacingly said, “We’re occupying this court today!”
“This is our school’s court. On what grounds do you occupy it?” Zhang Yuanbao was the most hot-headed and immediately shouted when he saw that these people were not students from their school.
“I said this court is mine today. Are you deaf? Get lost!” That young person from society aggressively stepped in front of Zhang Yuanbao.
“Who are you telling to get lost?” Zhang Yuanbao asked.
That young person directly grabbed Zhang Yuanbao by the collar, “I told you to get lost. Can’t you understand human language?”
Zhang Yuanbao quickly grabbed the young person’s hand, spun around, and with a smooth motion, threw him down onto the ground.
“Now tell me, who are you talking to?” Zhang Yuanbao walked forward and stepped on that young person.
“They’re fighting!” Seeing one of their own getting hurt, the group of young people from society immediately rushed over, one of them even pulling out a spring knife, pressing a button to reveal the shining blade.
Qixiang felt a bit nervous, watching everything unfold with fear.
Zhang Jiaohua and the mute approached slowly, unfazed.
“Woof woof!”
The mountain leopard suddenly sprang out from who knows where, like a bolt of lightning, and pounced on the young person holding the spring knife. That guy had no time to react; by the time he saw the mountain leopard, it was already too late to dodge. The mountain leopard bit him hard on the hand.
“Ah!”
That unfortunate guy nearly had his wrist bitten through by the mountain leopard. The pain made him drop the spring knife to the ground.
“Woof woof!”
The mountain leopard’s bark was still very intimidating. The few who were about to charge at Zhang Yuanbao were suddenly scared by the mountain leopard’s aura. Although the mountain leopard was slightly smaller than those wolf dogs and looked a bit like a native dog, not fierce at all, the aura it exuded made these few people a bit timid.
The mountain leopard’s earlier attack had been too fierce, instantly intimidating the group of young people.
“Where are you guys from?” the mute asked loudly.
Seeing two smaller kids, the group of young people from society suddenly had another idea and prepared to control these two.
“We came here to play basketball. What does it matter where we’re from? Is this basketball court yours?” said one of the curly-haired young men.
“It’s not mine; it’s our school’s. Naturally, the court here is for our students and teachers to use. How can you social youths from outside occupy our court?” the mute asked.
“Do you know who we are?” the curly-haired one asked.
The others kept their guard up against the mountain leopard, afraid it would attack again.
The unfortunate guy under Zhang Yuanbao couldn’t move at all. He tried to roll over a few times but was immediately stomped down by Zhang Yuanbao.
“I don’t care who you are; I just want you to know, don’t come to Yidushui Middle School anymore. Otherwise, I’ll teach you a lesson every time I see you,” Zhang Yuanbao said with a smile.
“You’ve got quite the attitude!”
The curly-haired guy and his companions suddenly charged at Zhang Jiaohua and the mute.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Jiaohua and the mute launched a sudden counterattack. The mute kicked out, and Zhang Jiaohua delivered a few swift kicks. The young people charging at them flew backward like rag dolls, crashing hard to the ground. When they landed, they gasped for breath like a duck that had its throat grabbed, taking a while to recover. Looking at Zhang Jiaohua and the others, their faces were filled with fear. They didn’t expect that in this desolate Yidushui Middle School, there would be such tough little kids hiding around. The strength of both sides was not on the same level; no wonder these little kids showed no fear at all, unlike ordinary students who would lose their minds at the sight of them, like the little kid next to them.
Qixiang was still dumbfounded, not knowing whether to run away or help. He didn’t expect that his normally harmless playmates could be so powerful, directly daring to confront young people from society and beating them so badly.
“What do you want?” The curly-haired guy kept crawling backward, completely intimidated. Being completely crushed in strength by the opponent felt utterly hopeless.
“Speak up, who sent you here?” Zhang Jiaohua stepped in front of the curly-haired guy.
“No, no one sent us. We just came to play basketball,” the curly-haired guy denied repeatedly.
“If you say that, then you can’t blame me. Leopard, it’s your turn!” Zhang Jiaohua stepped back a few paces.
The mountain leopard immediately cooperated, pouncing forward again, this time jumping onto the young man with the spring knife. It sank its teeth into the young man’s hand. In an instant, it was another bite.
“Ah!” The curly-haired guy was horrified and immediately ran away like a rabbit, and his companions followed suit.
