Zuan Shanbao immediately rushed to the cow pen to sniff out the scent.
“Huh? Why is this dog so obedient?”
At first, the villagers watching thought the dog was just wandering around the village. They didn’t expect it to belong to Zhang Jiaohua. Moreover, this dog was obviously different from ordinary dogs. It could understand Zhang Jiaohua’s commands and was incredibly intelligent. The villagers started discussing.
Meizi’ao is a mountain village where the villagers live quite far apart, and almost every household raises dogs and cats. They all have their own opinions on raising dogs, with many claiming to have the skill of evaluating dogs. However, this skill is not that simple. Take Zuan Shanbao, for example. Just by looking at its appearance, it is an ordinary mongrel. But in the eyes of a Meishan master, this dog, while not the top choice, is still an exceptionally fine specimen. With the dog training methods of Meishan hunting techniques, it immediately stands out from ordinary dogs.
Zuan Shanbao shook its fur, walking with a spring-like readiness in its four legs, and its eyes were full of intelligence. Its tail, unlike the constantly wagging tails of common dogs, was held high. Unlike typical hunting dogs whose tails are often docked, Zuan Shanbao’s tail was intact. This trait distinguished it from ordinary hunting dogs. When running in the forest, it would tuck its tail behind to avoid any hindrance, and on open ground, its tail served as a vital tool for balancing at high speed.
“Yeah, this dog is really intelligent.”
“I’ve seen dogs raised in Meishan before, and they give off the same vibe. When they get fierce, even the big wolves in the mountains have to back off.”
“I heard that the hunting dogs from Meishan could dare to bite wild boars. Very impressive. Although this dog is not fully grown, it’s different from ordinary dogs. Normally, if a dog from another village came to our village, the local dogs would start barking immediately. But with this hunting dog here, the village dogs don’t even dare to show up.”
“Hey, now that you mention it, it’s true.”
The villagers discussed among themselves, and Zhang Jiaohua heard them. Hearing their praise made the boy quite happy, though he didn’t forget what he needed to do.
“White dog turns into a white dragon, black dog into a black dragon, yellow dog into a yellow dragon, spotted dog into a spotted dragon. Travel across ten thousand mountains, left and right, front and back, search from the front mountains to the back mountains, piercing clouds and breaking villages, searching for lost items… urgently as per the law!”
As soon as Zhang Jiaohua finished chanting, Zuan Shanbao shot off like an arrow.
Zhang Jiaohua did not chase after Zuan Shanbao. Instead, some of the village children tried to follow, but they couldn’t keep up for long and soon lost sight of the dog. They could only hear the thunderous barking of Zuan Shanbao echoing in the surrounding mountains.
Zhang Jiaohua continued chanting: “I summon the Meishan lord, General Master of Meishan. Wearing the five thunder willful seal, with eyes observing the thunder fire through the heaven’s gate, practicing righteous teachings in the morning, returning to the altar to command divine soldiers in the evening. Summon thousands of yin soldiers and tens of thousands of yang soldiers, merging the paths of yin and yang. Upper cave Meishan King Hu, middle cave Meishan King Li, lower cave Meishan King Zhao, I now chant the Meishan spell, the three caves of Meishan descend upon us, search throughout Meishan’s thousands of mountains and peaks…”
Before Zhang Jiaohua’s voice fell, a sudden wind rose in the otherwise quiet Liu family area, especially on the empty ground near Liu Zongtai’s cow pen. A whirlwind kicked up the leaves on the ground.
The villagers who were just cheerfully watching and chatting immediately fell silent, looking at Zhang Jiaohua with awe and fear, believing this was the result of Zhang Jiaohua’s invocation.
“Let’s go find your cow,” Zhang Jiaohua told the stunned Liu Zongtai and started walking towards the main road.
Liu Zongtai felt a surge of shock, unable to believe Zhang Jiaohua could cause such a commotion.
In fact, Zhang Jiaohua himself didn’t know how he had caused such a stir. He wasn’t sure if it was due to his invocation or just a coincidence. He hadn’t seen such an effect before. Zhang Jiaohua’s words jolted Liu Zongtai from his daze.
“Hey, hey,” Liu Zongtai hurriedly followed.
The villagers, once Zhang Jiaohua and Liu Zongtai were out of sight, slowly came out of their shock.
“This is true Meishan. He really summoned a god. It’s been years since we’ve seen such a scene. Our village used to have some powerful Meishan masters. Master Ma’s family were authentic Meishan masters, but their skills seem to have faded. Zhang Jiaohua might truly be the rightful heir of Meishan.”
“Even in the past, few Meishan invocations could cause such a scene. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t believe it.”
“Zongtai’s cow should be found.”
“Yeah, finding it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s just a matter of retrieving it. But as long as it’s found, no one around here would dare not return it.”
“Zongtai’s wife, why are you still standing there? Go kill some chickens and prepare a meal. Just wait for them to bring your cow back.”
Liu Zongtai’s wife, Zhang Hongcui, laughed, “Don’t worry, if anyone puts in effort for our family’s matters, I, Hongcui, won’t be stingy. Everyone who helped us, come to our house for dinner tonight. Taohua, Qiuyue, come help out.”
Zhang Hongcui was known for her generosity and handled things with the flair of a big man.
Zhang Jiaohua led Liu Zongtai, along with Liu Guocai and Liu Yunjun, who had come to help, towards Meizi’ao Elementary School.
As Zhang Jiaohua walked, a strange image appeared in his mind, showing a large water buffalo moving along the path he had just taken. Zhang Jiaohua didn’t know why this image appeared but didn’t dwell on it.
“Guocai, do you think we can find Zongtai’s water buffalo this way?” Liu Yunjun asked, concerned about Zhang Jiaohua’s seemingly aimless wandering in the woods.
“Stop talking nonsense. If he wasn’t capable, could he have helped us with the school building collapse?” Liu Guocai glared at Liu Yunjun, worried that Zhang Jiaohua might get upset.
“There are cow tracks here!” Liu Zongtai excitedly pointed to a small puddle.
It was a waterlogged area, with many such puddles formed from seeping mountain water. In hot weather, water buffaloes love to wallow in these puddles. The water was shallow, filled with thick mud. A buffalo rolling in it would coat itself in mud, which would help fend off various biting insects. The mud would dry, trapping the parasites, which would then die.
