Mu Bai took out his phone to snap a few photos of the harvested saffron, then surveyed the rest of the magical space. Satisfied that all was in order, he returned to the bathroom with a single thought. He planned to sell this saffron after their trip, as shipping it now would be too complicated.
Yawning, he exited the bathroom and prepared to return to bed. As he glanced at Qian Yiwen, who was fast asleep, he noticed she looked even more delicate in her sleep, though her blanket had slipped off, revealing a lot of pale skin. Mu Bai walked over and gently covered her back up before heading to his bed.
It was almost four in the morning, and the night was deep. He fell asleep soon after lying down.
The next day.
When they woke up, it was already ten in the morning. Mu Bai and Qian Yiwen, following their usual routines, got dressed and washed up. Having spent the night in the same room, they felt an increased closeness between them.
“Hey, little Mu, could you let me use the bathroom first?”
“I’m not looking—I’m brushing my teeth.”
“Hmph, well, here’s some skincare I got for you; just leave it there for now. And don’t look back!”
After washing up, they left their room and headed to the service area’s restaurant to get something to eat. They hadn’t had breakfast yet, so they decided on an early meal before exploring Xuzhou’s sights in the afternoon. The stone-gambling event wouldn’t begin until the evening, so Mu Bai felt no rush.
As they entered the restaurant, a server welcomed them and led them to a table. Mu Bai nodded in acknowledgment, then guided Qian Yiwen to a nearby seat. Although the restaurant wasn’t crowded, a few other diners were scattered about. They ordered some of their favorite dishes, and the chef promptly served them.
While eating, Qian Yiwen playfully asked, “Come on, cool Mu, let your online girlfriend take a picture! Don’t worry, I won’t post it anywhere—it’s just for me. So in the future, I can look back on this trip and reminisce.”
“Sure, go ahead,” Mu Bai agreed, unfazed by the idea.
As Qian Yiwen smiled and took his picture, she happened to be captured in a livestream at a nearby table. A good-looking young woman was broadcasting herself live, and the sight of Qian Yiwen accidentally appearing on screen immediately sparked a wave of enthusiastic comments from her viewers.
“Oh my god, it’s a goddess!”
“She’s stunning! I’m falling in love at first sight!”
“Streamer, please get her number for me, and I’ll gift you ten rockets!”
Intrigued, the streamer, Zhang Yuyan—a popular outdoor host on Douyu—was momentarily taken aback by the sudden surge in comments. Known for her 75% makeup-enhanced looks, Zhang Yuyan had an attractive style and often received compliments from her fans. But in comparison to Qian Yiwen, she was clearly outmatched.
After a minute, she figured out why the viewers were so excited and realized they wanted her to get the “goddess’s” contact information. A playful pout on her face, she addressed her viewers: “You guys always call me your goddess, but here you are, switching sides so quickly! Fine, for all those rockets, I’ll go ask for her number. Don’t forget to send more gifts!”
She was rewarded instantly with a flood of virtual gifts. Smiling with satisfaction, she approached Mu Bai and Qian Yiwen’s table, phone still recording. She saw Qian Yiwen happily taking Mu Bai’s photo, and the livestream chat flared up with jealous comments.
Without hesitation, Zhang Yuyan greeted Qian Yiwen, saying, “Excuse me, beautiful. I’m Zhang Yuyan. Mind if we become friends?”
“Huh? What are you…?” Qian Yiwen noticed the camera and, feeling shy, quickly covered her face with her hand. “Could you not film me?”
Mu Bai, noticing Qian Yiwen’s discomfort, frowned and moved his chair back to face the intruder directly, his dark eyes settling on Zhang Yuyan with a steady gaze.
“Don’t be shy; my fans love you. Let me film a bit more—you’re so lovely,” Zhang Yuyan coaxed, still pointing her phone toward Qian Yiwen.
“No, I don’t want to. I already have my Mu,” Qian Yiwen replied, clinging to Mu Bai’s sleeve with a pleading look.
Mu Bai turned his attention fully to Zhang Yuyan and spoke in a calm, resonant voice, “Have you considered respecting other people’s feelings?”
“What… How I act isn’t your concern,” she snapped, feeling irritated by his tone.
“True,” Mu Bai agreed, his calm voice now edged with coldness. He looked her in the eyes for a few tense seconds, then added, “But believe me, you’ll regret this behavior.”
Zhang Yuyan felt a chill despite her attempt to remain defiant. Watching the two leave, she couldn’t shake the discomfort his words had left her with, her confidence draining away.
