OFR – Chapter 24 Charitable Donations.

At this moment, in Room 312 of the girls’ dormitory at Nanjing University, an 18 or 19-year-old girl lay on the innermost bunk bed, playing on her phone.

Covered by a quilt, her body shape wasn’t visible, but her face was quite beautiful, with a score of at least 80 in terms of appearance. She had fair skin, delicate features, and large, beautiful eyes framed by long lashes, making her look very attractive. Though not as stunning as Han Mengyun, she was on par with beauties like Wang Yuwei and Qian Yiwen.

This girl was Zhang Tiantian.

After moving to Nanjing with her mother, Zhang Tiantian focused on her studies and was fortunate enough to be accepted into Nanjing University. She was studying in the Chinese department and planned to become a journalist promoting love and kindness through public welfare after graduation.

Recently, the university organized a charity event where students were tasked with writing a news plan for a public welfare project. The plans would be posted on Nanjing University’s website, and online users could vote for the best proposal.

The first-place plan would receive a public welfare fund of 300,000 yuan from the university, which would be used to support the group in need, as outlined in the plan.

Zhang Tiantian and her roommates eagerly participated in the event, knowing that winning first place would be a great boost to their careers after graduation. Their proposal was focused on helping left-behind children from single-parent families.

Having experienced her parents’ divorce during her elementary school years, Zhang Tiantian knew firsthand how much care and warmth such children needed from the outside world. Her roommates fully supported this idea.

In addition to outlining the basic plan, Zhang Tiantian wrote about her own personal experiences and included interviews with other left-behind children from single-parent families that her roommates had conducted outside the campus.

Because the proposal was well-written, it was currently ranked second on Nanjing University’s website, just 400 votes behind the first-place plan.

Tonight at 10 PM, the final ranking would be announced, so none of the girls in Zhang Tiantian’s dorm had gone to bed. They were all working hard to gather votes online.

“By the way, do you remember that guy Awen who was chasing me? He donated 5,000 yuan to our project!” the girl in the bunk above Zhang Tiantian suddenly said excitedly.

In addition to voting, the project also allowed for charitable donations, and all the donated money would go toward helping the people mentioned in the project plan. Every 100 yuan donated counted as one additional vote, so Awen’s donation of 5,000 yuan was equivalent to 50 extra votes.

The voting system was very strict. Each online user could only cast one vote, and to vote through Nanjing University’s official WeChat or QQ accounts, users had to go through real-name verification.

This meant that no matter how many QQ or WeChat accounts someone had, only one vote could be cast per verified identity. Those without real-name verification couldn’t vote at all, which effectively prevented cheating through fake votes.

Because of this strict system, every vote was extremely valuable.

With 50 more votes from Awen’s donation, the room was abuzz with conversation.

“I heard Awen’s family is really wealthy.”

“Money isn’t the only thing—he’s also super handsome! Xiaohong, I think you should stop playing hard to get. Even though we’re only freshmen, if we don’t hurry and find boyfriends, all the good ones will be taken by sophomore or junior year.”

“Exactly! He’s willing to spend thousands to impress you. Look at my boyfriend—he’s so stingy he won’t even give me 100 yuan, and yet he always expects things from me. Ugh.”

“Ahem, we still have some single ladies in this dorm! No flirting talk allowed.”

“My boyfriend said he would donate, but I didn’t let him. But I’m working on persuading this annoying guy online who keeps flirting with me. Let’s see if I can get him to donate.”

Zhang Tiantian listened to her roommates’ conversation and shook her head. She didn’t really agree with the idea of asking for donations.

In her view, donations should come from the heart—those who wanted to donate would do so. Asking for it, on the other hand, diminished the true spirit of charity.

So when Zhang Tiantian gathered votes, she kept it simple. She never asked for donations and only focused on asking for votes.

She was reaching out to her friends on QQ, and most of them gladly cast their votes.

Gradually, Zhang Tiantian managed to gather over 200 votes through QQ.

“Di-di, di-di.”

The QQ notification sounds kept coming as Zhang Tiantian patiently explained the voting process to one friend after another.

“Mu Bai, just vote on Nanjing University’s website. Thank you! It’s been a long time since we last met. I heard you’re working in Nanjing now? We should catch up sometime.”

“Let’s meet up sometime; I’ll treat you to a meal.”

Mu Bai, who was in the basement, looked at the message from Zhang Tiantian. He rubbed his forehead, feeling surprised that his old classmate, whom he hadn’t seen in years, had now been admitted to Nanjing University and was actively involved in public welfare projects.

“Alright, I’ll vote for you,” Mu Bai replied. After all, it was a simple task.

He opened his browser, searched for Nanjing University’s official website, and used QQ to log in. As expected, there was a voting campaign prominently displayed on the homepage.

He quickly glanced at the rankings and saw Zhang Tiantian’s name under the second-place project. After confirming it was the right one, Mu Bai cast his vote for her proposal.

After voting, he didn’t leave the page immediately.

On the voting page, there were some scrolling messages about charitable donations.

“Charitable donations?” Mu Bai’s interest was piqued as he clicked on the rules for donating, realizing that the donations were also a form of charity. The money would be given to the people in need as described in the project. For every 100 yuan donated, it would count as an additional vote.

Understanding the donation rules, Mu Bai thought that since he planned to spend money online to earn virtual currency anyway, he might as well do some charity work and help Zhang Tiantian at the same time.

With this thought in mind, he opened Zhang Tiantian’s project and clicked on the donation option.

“Please enter the amount for your donation. The maximum amount for a single donation is 10,000 yuan.”

Without hesitation, he entered the amount of 10,000 yuan.

“Would you like to include your name? If you do, your donation will be displayed in the scrolling messages with your name and amount. If you choose not to, it will be listed as anonymous.”

Mu Bai chose not to include his name. Since it was a charitable act, there was no need for it to look like a pursuit of fame.

After opting for anonymity, Mu Bai made ten separate donations of 10,000 yuan each because he needed about 1,000 virtual coins to cultivate his arowana.

The 100,000 yuan donation would conveniently earn him exactly 1,000 virtual coins.

After Mu Bai’s donations, the charity event page instantly displayed ten large scrolling messages.

“Anonymous user donated 10,000 yuan to support Zhang Tiantian, Lan Lan, and others’ project ‘Left-Behind Children from Single-Parent Families.’”

“Anonymous user donated 10,000 yuan to support Zhang Tiantian, Lan Lan, and others’ project ‘Left-Behind Children from Single-Parent Families.’”

The same message appeared ten times, drawing the attention of many who were following the event.

“Oh my God, a 100,000 yuan donation!”

“Am I seeing this right? 100,000 yuan?”

“And it’s anonymous?”

“Such a kind person!”

“Doing good deeds without leaving a name—this is a true modern-day Lei Feng.”

“Wow, rich and generous.”

“Whoever is mocking this, don’t be a jerk! If you’re not doing charity, don’t criticize those who are.”

“Exactly! Look at how much the richest people donate each year. You don’t mock them, do you?”

Meanwhile, in Room 312 of Nanjing University’s girls’ dormitory, Zhang Tiantian and her roommates stared at the ten scrolling donation messages on the event page, utterly speechless.

After a long while, Zhang Tiantian finally broke the silence, asking, “Who did you guys ask for donations? That’s 100,000 yuan, and it’s anonymous.”

“Not me. I haven’t convinced my online friend yet,” one roommate said.

“Don’t look at me. Where could I find a wealthy friend who would casually throw out 100,000 yuan?”

“My boyfriend couldn’t even sell me for that much!”

“Awen’s definitely not that rich. He told me earlier that the 5,000 yuan he donated was his entire living expenses for the week.”

“Then who could it be? So mysterious, donating anonymously,” Zhang Tiantian wondered aloud, staring at the ten scrolling messages. Along with her shock, she began speculating about who the anonymous donor could be.

If it had been a donation of just 300 or 500 yuan, it could have easily been a passing philanthropist. But 100,000 yuan? Even a professor at Nanjing University earns about that much in a year!
