In Room 888, as Lu Ming entered, he immediately noticed the extremely handsome young Western nobleman at the head of the table. He was so strikingly beautiful that he could be described as “pretty,” with flowing wavy blond hair and light blue eyes. In a previous life, he could have made an excellent cross-dresser, even among the best. However, despite his appearance, there was something sinister about him, and his gaze was quite unsettling.

“Lawyer Lu is here!” Wen Liangyu, who was standing next to Lu Ming, said with a smile.

Around the round table sat seven or eight people. To the right of the young nobleman, there were four or five burly Westerners, dressed like Wild West cowboys, with a rebellious air about them. They were all armed, likely with legal permits, as a few rifles were lined up against the wall behind them. Some had large revolvers holstered at their waists.

On the left, the first person was a middle-aged man from Zhongzhou, wearing glasses and sporting a scholarly look. He stood up first, smiling, “Lawyer Lu, I’ve heard so much about you!”

Wen Liangyu quickly whispered in Lu Ming’s ear, “A member of the Justice Party, Yang Guiren. He runs a film company and has some dealings with the Renault family. He’s a minor supplier who occasionally manages to send some goods to Renault Films.”

Lu Ming nodded and smiled at Yang Guiren, then looked at the young Renault. “Mr. Renault, hello.”

Facing this man, Lu Ming’s anger and impulsiveness suddenly vanished, replaced by an extraordinary clarity and unprecedented calmness.

The young Renault seemed not to understand Zhongzhou dialect but didn’t seem interested in understanding what Lu Ming was saying. He spoke rapidly to Yang Guiren in a foreign language.

Yang Guiren smiled at Lu Ming, “Lawyer Lu, please have a seat. Mr. Renault says there’s a place for you here, as long as you know what to do and what not to do, he won’t make things difficult for you.”

Lu Ming smiled, “Then I must thank Mr. Renault!”

He indeed sat down on a chair in the corner.

Wen Liangyu was momentarily stunned, feeling a chill rise in his heart. This younger brother of his, at such a young age, had such poise and composure that even the big shots in politics and business could rarely compare.

When they arrived, Wen Liangyu could feel the anger in Lu Ming’s heart, a deep-seated hatred for the young Renault, which seemed irreconcilable.

He had even worried there might be a violent confrontation, so he had made some covert arrangements.

But to his surprise, the young Renault was so arrogant that even the seat he offered was in the corner, yet Lu Ming accepted it with ease, sitting down as if he didn’t mind at all.

Wen Liangyu, lost in thought, also walked over and sat next to Lu Ming.

The young Renault scrutinized Lu Ming and Wen Liangyu, looking satisfied, and nodded, saying something to Yang Guiren.

“Mr. Renault says he would very much like to be friends with you,” Yang Guiren translated.

The young Renault spoke again.

Yang Guiren smiled and said, “Mr. Renault says he admires Lawyer Lu very much for winning many cases and for having the courage to send a lawyer’s letter to his father. He sincerely wants to be friends with Lawyer Lu.”

Turning to Wen Liangyu, he continued, “And to Chairman Wen, Mr. Renault says he has long heard of Chairman Wen’s reputation for loyalty and righteousness. He hopes to be good friends with Chairman Wen as well. Renault Films is about to construct a new building, and he will speak to his father about awarding part of the project to Chairman Wen.”

Wen Liangyu sneered inwardly, thinking, “Do you really have that authority?”

Lu Ming smiled and asked, “Renault Films is going to construct a building? What kind of budget are we talking about? Must be a large sum, right?”

Yang Guiren translated, but not in the casual tone Lu Ming used. He chose words that were more deferential.

The young Renault nodded, looking somewhat proud, and said a few more sentences.

“Mr. Renault says the budget is ten million!” Yang Guiren sighed. “A large sum indeed. The Empire State Building only cost forty million.”

Lu Ming nodded, “Renault Films is currently investing in a new movie, which is said to be a record-breaking million-dollar investment? The first million-dollar movie in the empire? A grand mythological production? And they’re planning to film in the western desert?”

Yang Guiren smiled, “Yes, I’ve heard about that too!” He then said a few more sentences to the young Renault, likely praising the strength of Renault Films.

Lu Ming nodded, “It seems Renault Films’ finances will be quite tight recently, with the building project and likely a lot of financing or loans involved. It appears that Sir Renault is getting a bit old. Older people tend to be more ostentatious, wanting to leave a lasting legacy, which often marks the beginning of mistakes.”

These words were directed at Wen Liangyu, who smiled without commenting, feeling it was too presumptuous for him to critique someone like Sir Renault.

Yang Guiren listened awkwardly, unsure whether to translate or not.

At this moment, one of the Western cowboys, sitting next to the young Renault, sneered, “You are very sly, thinking we are fools!” His Zhongzhou dialect was crude but understandable.

Among the burly men, he appeared thin, with a hooked nose and small, hawk-like eyes. He turned and spoke softly to the young Renault.

Yang Guiren was stunned. Even he didn’t know one of the young Renault’s entourage was proficient in Zhongzhou dialect.

Lu Ming smiled, having noticed this man watching him and Wen Liangyu closely, deducing that he understood their conversation from his reactions.

The young Renault’s face turned dark, glaring at Yang Guiren. Yang Guiren, startled, stood up abruptly, “Mr. Renault, I didn’t mean to upset you!”

The young Renault then looked at Lu Ming and Wen Liangyu, “You, die! Miserable! Blind! Broken hands!” he spat out a few Zhongzhou words through gritted teeth.

Hearing these words, Lu Ming initially paid no mind but then frowned and slowly looked up at the young Renault. He said calmly, “Did you learn this specifically to tell those you consider inferior races their fate when you torture them? Do you think it’s only stimulating if you say it yourself and they understand?”

This was said in a dialect from his hometown, which no one else understood, nor did he intend for them to understand.

But he had to ask the young Renault this, or perhaps he was asking himself.

Everyone looked at Lu Ming in surprise.

Lu Ming then smiled slightly, “Mr. Renault, I apologize in my native tongue. I shouldn’t have commented on your father. I’m not qualified to do so. Everyone, enjoy your food and drinks! Have fun!”

Yang Guiren quickly translated, although he was careful not to exaggerate, using words that were much more polite than Lu Ming’s.

Meanwhile, Wen Liangyu sipped his tea quietly, feeling that something was off about what Lu Ming had said, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
