The appointment letter showed that he was temporarily given the rank of colonel. This role primarily involved providing legal services to military decision-makers, prosecuting officers and soldiers in military court for breaches of military law, representing officers and soldiers in civil, economic, and administrative lawsuits, mediations, and arbitrations, and handling legal matters on behalf of the military, such as when the military itself was sued by civilians.

Thus, frequent presence in various military settings necessitated having a rank, and it couldn’t be too low. Since the commanding officer was a major general, the legal advisor, representing the entire Coast Guard, needed a rank that reflected the importance of their role. Below major general was brigadier general, and below that was colonel.

Lu Ming put on the dark blue naval officer uniform and looked at the silver eagle on his shoulder in the mirror. Being a lawyer had its perks. Unless they were royalty, noble children his age couldn’t dream of wearing such an insignia.

Though temporary, during his service period, he was a legitimate colonel in the East Sea National Security Force’s Coast Guard.

“Mary, does Sir Wenge know about my background, such as my age?” Lu Ming asked Mary. “And shouldn’t I meet Sir Wenge in person?”

Mary smiled sweetly. “Of course, he knows your credentials. I told him! He was worried you might not want to enlist! Also, he’s rarely at the base, leaving everything to me.”

“It should have been a gift, but I didn’t know what to get you, so you can buy something yourself. Accept it!” Lu Ming gestured and then laughed. “I didn’t give you cash because I’m transparent and don’t feel any shame about this uniform. I will do my job well. Giving you cash would seem like we are doing something underhanded. Don’t you agree?”

Mary hesitated but finally accepted the check, smiling at Lu Ming with a hint of flirtation in her large eyes. “Thank you, sir. I’ll rely on you from now on. It’s only right for the boss to support his ‘honey’.”

Lu Ming chuckled. Now his rank was indeed higher than hers. He could also sense the underlying meaning in her words, that if any trouble arose in the future, she would use this narrative.

“I do wish the boss really would support me!” Mary sighed with a somewhat “wistful” look.

Renault Films became one of the largest film companies in East Sea, and Empire’s most popular star, Nicole Hepburn, was signed with them. The Tower Restaurant, on the other hand, was managed by his younger son, young Renault.

Lu Ming thought it over, “Can I choose the liaison myself? Just need some guidance from you.”

Mary nodded, “Yes, that’s fine.”
