The small balcony on the second floor was decorated even more beautifully now, with the railings newly painted in brown, the smell of paint still lingering. Surrounding it were green potted plants, and the white tables and chairs were shaded by an umbrella.

Quiet and with a wide view, it was perfect for drinking coffee or working.

Lu Ming was reviewing the resumes of candidates for a secretary position at the tech company. These were the final five chosen from many applicants, selected by Pamela.

The company had just started, and with Pamela as his personal assistant, hiring two more clerks would be sufficient.

Among the five candidates, three had high school diplomas and two had vocational school diplomas, all young people who had recently graduated.

“You can choose. We’ll interview them later. You can’t tell much from just their resumes,” Lu Ming shook his head.

Pamela, sitting beside him, was surprised. “You’re not going to interview them yourself?”

Lu Ming smiled, “In a few days, I have to handle the enrollment procedures for Fervand College. I’m about to start school and won’t have much time.”

Pamela thought that interviews didn’t take much time.

She widened her blue eyes in even more surprise, “School?”

“Anyway, I trust you!” Lu Ming smiled at Pamela.

Actually, hiring two clerks wasn’t that important. In fact, having someone too competent might not be a good thing. Since the company was newly established and dealt with patent transactions and time-sensitive deals, having someone too cunning could be a problem.

He looked at Pamela again and laughed, “You can manage better than I can.”

Pamela was wearing a luxurious black long dress that revealed her snow-white back, exuding an elegant and sexy charm.

Yesterday, she had taken Bess shopping and bought a few new outfits.

Pamela glanced at Lu Ming with her blue eyes, not believing a word from his mouth, especially when he was complimenting her.

He had the perfect words for a lawyer like him.

“Oh, Old Wang is here? A rare guest!” Lu Ming looked down from the balcony and saw Wang Da’an hurrying into the alley.

When he got under the balcony, Wang Da’an looked up and immediately waved the folder in his hand at Lu Ming, smiling. He was walking fast and seemed to be sweating.

Taking a few quick steps, he climbed the side ladder to the balcony, the wooden steps creaking under his weight.

“Brother Wang, what’s the matter? You could have just called!” Lu Ming stood up and walked to the side ladder to greet him.

“That wouldn’t do! I had to deliver this to you in person!”

Wang Da’an handed the folder to Lu Ming. “Take a look at this case. The client specifically requested you.”

He laughed, “Brother, you’ve made a name for yourself with just one case!”

He continued, “Let me briefly introduce it. Liu Laocai, one of the wealthy men from Beiguan and the owner of New Era Mall, is related to the young master you faced last time, Mr. Liang. They are distant relatives but don’t get along well, to the point of hostility. So, when he got into legal trouble this time, he didn’t use Liu Hanming’s law firm but hired a second-tier lawyer from the city at a high price.”

“But it didn’t work well, and it looks like he’s going to lose. He heard that Judge Li has a preference for you and wants to try having you handle his case. His case is being judged by Li.”

Wang Da’an smiled, “Don’t feel pressured. He agreed to pay you at the second-tier rate, no matter the outcome. Five yuan per hour, plus other expenses. If you win, he promised an additional 500 yuan.”

“Ten points can be exchanged for three or four hundred yuan in cash. It’s definitely worth it! You can take on some settlement cases in the second half of the year to make up the points.”

Wang Da’an didn’t expect Lu Ming to win this case either.

If Lu Ming lost, he would only lose ten points. Since he had over thirty points in total, ten percent would be just over three points, so losing ten points wasn’t too bad.

Lu Ming looked at the case summary. It was a prosecution case against Liu Laocai, accused of molesting a woman.

The victim was a newlywed woman named Deng Hongmei, in her early twenties, working as a sales clerk in New Era Mall, which Liu Laocai owned. Liu Laocai coveted her beauty and, under the pretense of needing a work report, called her into his office, hugged her, and propositioned her. But because he didn’t manage to undress, he was only charged with molestation.

As Lu Ming read the file, he frowned slightly and said, “Actually, I’m not that familiar with Judge Li. She probably just mentioned having a drink with me in passing. You know she quickly declined.”

“What’s that got to do with anything? Liu Laocai doesn’t know that. And since he didn’t ask explicitly, we don’t need to explain the situation. It doesn’t violate professional ethics.” Wang Da’an smiled broadly.

Lu Ming thought for a moment, “I need to meet him first before deciding whether to take the case.”

“Of course, that’s the right thing to do!” Wang Da’an thought for a moment. “He should be in a hurry. Should I arrange for him to come over this afternoon?”

Lu Ming stood up, “How about now? I’ll go to your office and wait for him. If I decide to take the case, the sooner I get started, the better.”

Wang Da’an gave a thumbs up, “That’s right.”

Lu Ming glanced at Pamela, “You come with me.”

Pamela, as his personal assistant, naturally went wherever she was needed. Both the law firm and the tech company needed her to maintain order when Lu Ming wasn’t around.

Wang Da’an was taken aback. Although he had seen Pamela before coming up to the balcony, he still tried to act as if he didn’t see her, fearing that one wrong word might earn her disdain.

Although she treated Lawyer Lu differently because he won her case, it didn’t mean she wouldn’t look down on him.

Unexpectedly, Lawyer Lu wanted to take her along?

While Wang Da’an was still in surprise, Lu Ming smiled and said, “Ms. Pamela is now my personal assistant. If you need anything from the firm and can’t find me, you can call her directly. It’s the same number as the laundry shop.”

Wang Da’an was dumbfounded.

Pamela gave him a slight smile, “Lawyer Wang, please take care of me in the future!”

“Yes, yes, of course…” Wang Da’an was instantly flattered, nearly missing a step and falling off the balcony.

“Oh, be careful!” Lu Ming quickly grabbed him.
