“Prince Jing is indeed perceptive,” Ding Heng said. “I’ve come this time precisely for my daughter. I won’t beat around the bush—it’s about her marriage. Your Highness previously promised that Leng Feng would marry my daughter. A marriage is not something that can be delayed any longer.”
For the sake of his daughter’s lifelong happiness, Ding Heng had come personally to Prince Jing’s residence. Ordinarily, it was the groom’s family that came to propose—but now, he had taken the initiative himself.
Leng Feng was still confined to his room, reflecting on his actions, and Ding Heng’s willingness to set aside etiquette for his daughter’s sake showed just how anxious he was.
Chu Jingcheng thought to himself that Yin Qingyue had guessed correctly—Ding Heng had indeed come for his daughter’s marriage.
“Lord Ding,” Chu Jingcheng said, “I said before that once everything was settled, Leng Feng would come to formally take your daughter as his bride.”
“That is exactly the answer I was hoping to hear from Your Highness,” Ding Heng said. “I also know that Leng Feng previously offended you, so I was wondering whether now—”
“I won’t hold it against him,” Chu Jingcheng replied. “I only had him stay inside for a while. He’s been tired these past days anyway.”
“Yes. Thank you, Your Highness, for being considerate toward Leng Feng.”
Chu Jingcheng smiled. In truth, he felt he had acted a bit impulsively earlier. Had Ding Heng not come, he would have forgotten that Leng Feng was still confined. Fortunately, it had only been a few days.
“Lord Ding,” he continued, “how about this: I’ll have the ceremonial officials select an auspicious date at once and arrange for them to marry as soon as possible.”
Hearing this, the worry weighing on Ding Heng’s heart finally lifted. He smiled in relief.
“Since Your Highness has agreed, I’ll wait for word on the chosen date. As for my side, I’ll naturally make the necessary preparations as well.”
Chu Jingcheng nodded, then added, “By the way, Lord Ding, since Leng Feng and your daughter are to be married, it would be best if they didn’t meet during this period.”
“This humble official understands. Everything will be properly arranged.”
“Lord Ding, rest assured,” Chu Jingcheng said solemnly. “Although Leng Feng is only one of my guards, I will take care of everything. I won’t let your daughter suffer any grievance.”
He spoke as if Leng Feng were his own son. After all, Leng Feng had served by his side for many years—now that he was marrying, it was only right for his master to make arrangements.
After discussing the necessary marriage formalities, Chu Jingcheng had someone escort Ding Heng out. He then headed to the rear courtyard, to the place where Leng Feng was staying.
Two guards still stood watch outside Leng Feng’s room. When they saw Prince Jing arrive in person, they opened the door and quietly stepped aside.
Leng Feng had been confined inside all this time. Hearing that Yin Qingyue had been brought back by their prince and that the emperor was no longer pursuing the matter, all his earlier worries had finally settled.
When the door suddenly opened and he saw Chu Jingcheng enter, he immediately knelt on one knee, lowering his head.
“This subordinate greets Your Highness.”
Seeing Leng Feng perform such a formal salute, Chu Jingcheng felt slightly displeased.
“What? Are you still angry with me?”
“This subordinate would never dare.”
“You say you don’t dare, yet it’s me who dares not punish you further. Keeping you locked up here would only delay important matters.”
“Your Highness means…?” Leng Feng stood up, looking at him in confusion.
Chu Jingcheng turned slightly aside, clearly not intending to tell him immediately. He frowned and said, “Lord Ding just came by—your future father-in-law.”
Hearing that Ding Heng had come, Leng Feng grew even more puzzled. He asked cautiously, “Could it be… he came to plead for me?”
“You really do think highly of yourself,” Chu Jingcheng chuckled. “So thick-skinned—you actually think he came to plead for you.”
Leng Feng lowered his head, smiling awkwardly.
“Your Highness, now that Miss Yin is safe, your mood must be good. Naturally, you’ve come to let me out.”
“You’re that certain I’d release you?”
“Your Highness’s character—how could I not know it? I just can’t understand why Lord Ding came.”
“Why do you think he came? If not for his daughter, what else could it be?” Chu Jingcheng replied.
At matters like this, Leng Feng always seemed slow. He scratched his head, looking utterly confused.
“Your Highness, I feel like I’m getting more confused the more I listen.”
Chu Jingcheng shook his head. “Let me be clear—Lord Ding came for your marriage with Ding Ying.”
“Marriage?” Leng Feng immediately became excited. He wanted to laugh but felt embarrassed, wanted to shout but couldn’t get the sound out. After a long pause, he asked again to be sure, “Has the date been set? When is it? What should I prepare? And Ding Ying—what did she say?”
“You’re asking too many questions at once,” Chu Jingcheng said flatly. “I can’t answer all of them. But I’ve already promised Lord Ding that I’ll have the Ministry of Rites choose an auspicious date as soon as possible. On that day, you’ll formally marry Ding Ying.”
“Your Highness truly agreed?” Leng Feng said eagerly. “I’m naturally overjoyed, but in my current position, I fear I might wrong Ding Ying.”
“I’ve already decided,” Chu Jingcheng said. “You’ve followed me for many years. I’ll arrange a residence for you so you can marry Ding Ying with full honor. You needn’t worry about anything else—Lord Ding will make the necessary arrangements in advance.”
“Really, Your Highness?”
“When have I ever gone back on my word?” Chu Jingcheng replied. “Leng Feng, remember this: once you marry Ding Ying, you must settle down. She is Lord Ding’s only daughter, and since he’s willing to entrust her to you, you must not cause any trouble.”
Though his expression was impatient, his words were filled with concern.
Leng Feng nodded vigorously. “Your Highness, though I’m usually reckless, I will take good care of Ding Ying. I won’t let her suffer for following me. Even if it costs me my life, I’ll protect her.”
“Save those words for her,” Chu Jingcheng said, glancing toward the door. “It’s getting late. Go make your preparations. I’ll arrange things properly on my end as well.”
“Thank you, Your Highness,” Leng Feng said, beaming.
After leaving, Chu Jingcheng went to Yin Qingyue’s courtyard. The place had already been cleaned, and she had settled in peacefully.
As soon as he entered, he saw Yin Qingyue arranging her clothes. He walked in cheerfully and said, “Yin Qingyue, guess what happy news has come?”
She set down the clothes and turned to look at him. Seeing the smile on his face, she guessed that Ding Heng’s visit must have been about Ding Ying and Leng Feng.
“Is it about Leng Feng and Ding Ying?”
“Indeed it is,” Chu Jingcheng said. “But you’d never guess—usually it’s the man’s side that comes to propose. Who would have thought this time it’d be Ding Heng himself, coming on behalf of his daughter?”
Though his words were sharp, they were full of blessings.
Yin Qingyue smiled as well. The ill-fated pair had finally found their happy ending. All her efforts back then hadn’t been in vain—someone as simple-minded as Leng Feng marrying Ding Ying truly was his good fortune in life.
“In the end, Leng Feng is indeed blessed—to have such a father-in-law,” she said.
“That’s true,” Chu Jingcheng replied, then stepped closer to her, the corner of his lips lifting. “And what about you? Aren’t you blessed as well, having me by your side?”
“Is that so?” Yin Qingyue glanced aside, a trace of shyness in her eyes—gone in an instant, unnoticed by Chu Jingcheng.
“Yin Qingyue, the more stubborn you are, the more I like you.”
He reached out to pull her into his arms, but she stepped back, pressing a hand against his chest.
“Prince Jing, isn’t Leng Feng and Ding Ying’s matter the most important right now?”
“You’re not escaping my grasp this time,” Chu Jingcheng said, refusing to take the hint. He pulled her into his arms and lowered his head to kiss her—dominant yet tender.
At first, Yin Qingyue struggled, but his arms held her firmly, leaving her unable to break free. In the end, she yielded.
The kiss came suddenly, yet it was deep and affectionate.
The warmth between their lips slowly intensified. Yin Qingyue had never realized she could grow so attached to such closeness—only at moments like this did her long-frozen heart begin to melt.
Chu Jingcheng’s kiss grew even more intense. He was unwilling to let go, afraid that the moment he did, she would leave him again. That fear made his hold all the tighter.
Only after a long while did he finally pull away, resting his forehead against hers and whispering softly, “I believe that one day, I’ll marry you with all the honor you deserve.”
She remained silent.
“If one day I have nothing—no title, no status, no position as a prince—would you still step into my bridal sedan?” Chu Jingcheng asked seriously, a trace of hope in his eyes.
Yin Qingyue met his gaze, seeing sincerity and longing within it. She gently pushed him away and said, “Just as you said, Prince Jing—since I’m already yours, do I still have a reason to refuse?”
“So… you’re agreeing?” he asked.
“Does it even matter whether I agree or not?” she replied softly. “At this very moment, aren’t I already by your side?”
“But I’m afraid you’ll leave again,” Chu Jingcheng said.
Yin Qingyue smiled faintly.
“That depends on how you behave.”
