“I’m only making a guess. Anything is possible. After all, a living person doesn’t just disappear—either she was kidnapped, or she’s dead. But if she were kidnapped, there would surely be ransom demands sent to the Hai residence. Yet the Hai residence guards have all been sent out to search, which means it’s not a kidnapping. The only remaining possibility is…”
The man stopped there and didn’t continue.
Everyone sighed. They all understood what he meant, even though they didn’t want to believe that Grand Tutor Hai’s daughter could be dead. But as the saying goes, it’s not the one-in-a-million chance you fear—it’s the worst-case scenario. No one is immune to disaster.
Yin Qingyue, standing to the side, had already begun paying close attention from the very first sentence.
Just the other day, Hai Qingshuang had come to this inn to look for her perfectly fine—how could she suddenly vanish?
She thought about it. Could something have happened to Hai Qingshuang after leaving the inn? But it was broad daylight—how could a person simply evaporate? That made no sense.
After a while, Yin Qingyue suddenly remembered something. Yesterday, she had heard two street ruffians say that a large sack had been carried into the Yi Prince’s residence—and it was moving. If it wasn’t a person, it was a beast. But if it were a beast, shouldn’t it be kept in a cage? Why use a sack? Instantly, she was startled.
Could it be that the sack didn’t contain an animal—but a person?
And could that person be Hai Qingshuang?
Had Hai Qingshuang offended the Yi Prince’s guards at the inn that day and then been abducted?
Thinking of this, Yin Qingyue became even more convinced—the person in the sack was Hai Qingshuang.
“Waiter, we need more tea here. Bring it over quickly.”
Yin Qingyue snapped back to her senses, but her mind was no longer on her work. She carried the tea over absentmindedly, her movements a bit clumsy as her thoughts were entirely occupied with Hai Qingshuang.
When those men saw Yin Qingyue’s appearance, they were startled, but not overly shocked. After all, they were refined people and understood that looks did not define one’s inner character.
They continued chatting and laughing, no longer discussing Grand Tutor Hai.
Yin Qingyue stayed inside to serve them, but she couldn’t figure out why the Yi Prince would kidnap Hai Qingshuang. What benefit could it possibly bring him? Offending Grand Tutor Hai was certainly not a good thing.
After finishing her service, Yin Qingyue returned to her room, claiming she felt unwell and did not go out again.
The innkeeper, worried that anything happening to her might damage the inn’s reputation, allowed her to rest and told no one to disturb her.
Inside her room, Yin Qingyue tidied up a bit and took out the itching powder she had prepared earlier. She thought to herself that she would go to the Yi Prince’s residence that night to investigate—see whether Hai Qingshuang was really being held there. If she truly had been kidnapped by the Yi Prince, this itching powder might come in handy.
Meanwhile, Hai Qingshuang had already been trapped in this unfamiliar place for two days. She knew her father must be desperately searching for her, but she couldn’t leave and had no idea what to do.
A maid came in to tidy the room. Hai Qingshuang asked, “Tell me—what place is this, exactly?”
“Miss, I don’t know,” the maid replied.
“It’s already been two days. You won’t let me out, fine—but when I ask where this place is, you won’t say either. Do you have something you can’t tell?” Hai Qingshuang stepped toward her, clearly pressing her for answers.
But the maid kept her mouth tightly shut. Over the past two days, she hadn’t revealed a single word or given Hai Qingshuang any information.
“Tell me. As long as you do, I’ll give you whatever you want.”
“Miss, I…”
“I don’t care what difficulties you have. If you still don’t speak today, then once I find a way to leave on my own, you know what your fate will be,” Hai Qingshuang said coldly, her eyes just as icy.
The little maid shook her head vigorously. “I know you’re from the Hai residence, miss, and I can’t afford to offend you. But please understand—if I speak, I’ll die immediately.”
Seeing the fear and panic in the maid’s eyes, Hai Qingshuang softened slightly. Though she appeared cold and heartless, she wasn’t truly so. Over the past two days, the maid had taken good care of her.
After some thought, Hai Qingshuang decided not to make things difficult for her. “Fine, I won’t force you. But at the very least, you should deliver a letter to my father. I’ve been gone for two days—he must be searching everywhere.”
“This…”
“I’ve already written the letter. It doesn’t mention my situation—just that I’m safe. Besides, if my father still can’t find me, he’ll definitely go to the palace to see the emperor. When that happens, this place will surely be discovered, and you won’t escape responsibility either.” With that, Hai Qingshuang stuffed the letter into the maid’s hand.
She knew the maid couldn’t read. The letter wasn’t a message of safety at all—it was a plea for help.
The maid looked at it, her heart filled with anxiety. Hesitantly, she asked, “It’s really just a message saying you’re safe?”
“Of course. No one is harming me here—why would I write anything else? Please help me this once. I promise I won’t leave.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
The maid seemed to make up her mind. Fine—she would help her this once. She took the letter and ran out.
Hai Qingshuang thought to herself that her plan had succeeded. Now she just had to wait for her father to come and rescue her.
But only moments later, just after the maid left, there was a sudden, piercing scream.
Hai Qingshuang rushed out to check, but as soon as she stepped outside, someone struck her from behind, knocking her unconscious. She didn’t even see who it was.
She didn’t know how long she was out. When she woke up, it was already very dark. She found herself tied to the bedpost, completely unable to move.
She struggled with all her strength, but no matter what she did, she couldn’t break free.
At that moment, the door was suddenly pushed open from outside.
Hai Qingshuang clutched the bedsheets tightly, staring at the doorway, unsure of who it was.
The person who entered shocked her.
It was the Yi Prince.
“Yi Prince? How could it be you?” she exclaimed.
The Yi Prince walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes fixed on Hai Qingshuang. He smiled slightly. “Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you.”
Hai Qingshuang asked, “Tell me—where is the maid?”
“That little maid?” Chu Yifeng said indifferently. “She disobeyed my orders and dared to deliver a letter for you. What use is such a person to me?”
“You killed her?” Hai Qingshuang demanded.
“No. I didn’t want to dirty my hands. By now, she’s probably in a brothel,” Chu Yifeng said casually.
Hai Qingshuang couldn’t believe it. The usually taciturn Yi Prince was actually so vicious—truly a beast in human skin. She had been blind.
“What do you want? Why have you locked me up here?” she asked.
“You want to know why? I’ll tell you,” Chu Yifeng said.
As soon as he finished speaking, he reached out and began pulling at Hai Qingshuang’s clothes. She shrank back instinctively, terror in her eyes.
“Get away from me, you beast! I won’t let you off!”
“Let’s see if you have that ability,” Chu Yifeng said coldly. Roughly and swiftly, he tore off her outer clothes, leaving only a red dudou.
Hai Qingshuang’s face was icy. At this moment, she truly wished she could kill him—tear him to pieces. Her fists clenched tighter and tighter.
“Kill me,” she said. “Such humiliation is worse than death.”
Chu Yifeng’s face twisted with malice. He sneered coldly, looking at her as though admiring a valuable exhibit. He lifted her chin and said, “Killing you would be too easy. I won’t kill you—I’ll take very good care of you.”
“Animal,” Hai Qingshuang cursed fiercely.
“I’ll be an animal today,” Chu Yifeng said coldly, “and let you see clearly what kind of person I really am.” He gripped her chin tightly and flung her head aside.
This humiliation was something Hai Qingshuang—so proud and aloof—could never endure. It was a hundred times worse than death.
With icy calm, she asked, “Why are you doing this to me?”
“Why?” Chu Yifeng laughed. “Because I took a liking to you long ago. But Hai Qingshuang insisted on acting pure and aloof. Being the Yi Prince’s consort wasn’t good enough for you—you refused. My imperial father respects your father, so since you were unwilling, he never issued the decree. But that doesn’t mean I’ll endure this forever.”
“You think having me will stabilize your position?” Hai Qingshuang sneered. “Even if I die, I will never marry you. In this lifetime, don’t even think about it.”
“Then I’ll just have to let raw rice become cooked rice,” Chu Yifeng said coldly. “Let’s see what you’ll say then.”
With that, he began caressing her face, one hand sliding to her waist and gripping her tightly.
Bound as she was, Hai Qingshuang couldn’t struggle. She said fiercely, “Chu Yifeng, I will kill you.”
She pressed her lips together tightly, turned her head away, her eyes flashing with cold fury.
Chu Yifeng said, “Now, I won’t even let you be the Yi Prince’s consort. I’ll make you a concubine—let’s see how you keep pretending to be aloof then.”
At this moment, Yin Qingyue had already sneaked into the Yi Prince’s residence. After searching for a long time, she finally found this place. Peering in through the window, she saw Chu Yifeng’s wandering hands on Hai Qingshuang.
Yin Qingyue was shocked. This Yi Prince was truly a beast in human form. She knew he was bad, but she hadn’t expected him to be this vile—especially toward a woman, and one like Hai Qingshuang. She desperately wanted to rush in and teach him a lesson.
But then she reconsidered. The Yi Prince was skilled in martial arts—if she rushed in, she wouldn’t be able to defeat him and might end up in his hands instead. For now, she could only rely on wit.
She looked around, quickly picked up a few stones, and clenched them in her palm.
Just then, Chu Yifeng curled his lips into a smile and bent down, about to forcefully kiss Hai Qingshuang. At that instant, Yin Qingyue hurled the stones toward the back of his head.
Unexpectedly, Chu Yifeng dodged, instantly becoming alert.
He looked toward the direction the stones had come from and demanded, “Who’s there?”
Yin Qingyue smiled. Better lure him out first. Pinching her nose, she deliberately lowered her voice and shouted, “Chu Yifeng, I’m your grandpa! Why don’t you come out and meet me? Or do you want your grandpa to come in and meet you instead?”
Chu Yifeng was startled, deeply puzzled. Who was outside—someone who could sneak into his residence and dare to speak to him like this? They were truly courting death.
Sure enough, Chu Yifeng took the bait. He stood up and walked outside.
Hai Qingshuang, still tied to the bed, finally felt a brief sense of relief. But her heart could not calm down—if she ever got the chance, she would definitely take revenge for this humiliation.
