Outside the brothel:

“Young master, come on! I’ve missed you! Come in!” Several brothel women called out at the door, their supple waists swaying seductively.

A man appeared, holding the waists of two women as he staggered into the brothel.

“Today, make sure you serve me well. The silver is all yours!”

“We’ll make sure you’re completely satisfied, sir!”

Suddenly, a figure in plain clothes appeared, subtle yet distinct. As Yin Qingyue stepped out the door, all eyes turned toward her.

“What’s with that person? So ugly!” A man quickly let go, feeling nauseated.

“Is she one of your brothel girls?” he asked in surprise.

“No brothel here would have someone that ugly. If there is, she’s just a servant!”

“Hey, ugly girl, you aren’t a servant, are you?” The man sneered, his gaze roaming over Yin Qingyue.

Though her face was plain, her figure was far superior to any woman in the brothel.

“Little girl, if you cover your face, maybe I’d consider having you serve me. Otherwise, why not come over?” The man grinned lecherously, imagining a hidden beauty beneath the plain face—enough to amuse him for a long time.

“Put away your smile and get lost!” Yin Qingyue snapped. No matter the country or era, there were always men like this.

“Ugly and temperamental! I like that. If you wore a veil, I’d claim you for sure.” The man leered at her. Beihao women were famously fiery, and Yin Qingyue’s temper had just the right touch of softness to make him interested.

“First, I’m not a brothel girl, so show some respect. What I look like is none of your business—mind your own affairs!” Yin Qingyue said coldly, refusing to let a scoundrel get away with it.

“You’re so arrogant! Truly, ugly people are troublemakers.” The man turned and went inside the brothel. Some things were better left alone—arguing with an ugly girl was useless.

“I’m off in style—no need to waste my time with you!”

As Yin Qingyue prepared to leave, the brothel girls gathered at the doorway.

“Don’t stand there, blocking my client! How dare someone that ugly show her face! Go away before you scare him off!” one woman shouted. She had worked there for years and even the usual servants weren’t this ugly.

“Move quickly, or I’ll force you out!”

“These people are ridiculous,” Yin Qingyue snorted. She never intended to stay a second longer. If it weren’t for curiosity about Qingqing, she wouldn’t have come at all.

Brothel women—how many of them could boast cleanliness, in body or speech? And as for being called ugly, she had heard it countless times. Such things were nothing to her.

She didn’t linger, avoiding unnecessary trouble.

At that moment, a carriage pulled up conspicuously at the brothel entrance.

“Miss, get in!”

A head appeared from inside the carriage—none other than Leng Feng.

“Back to the mansion immediately!” Yin Qingyue replied with a smile.

As soon as she vanished into the carriage, the whispers outside instantly ceased.

“She’s so ugly for a young lady!” one man muttered quietly, afraid the carriage occupants might hear.

Yin Qingyue’s carriage was no ordinary vehicle; only palace-affiliated individuals could ride one. If she weren’t connected to the palace, her status had to be extraordinary.

“Miss Yin, you’re bold! Daring to go to a place like that—aren’t you afraid of trouble?” Leng Feng teased.

“Thanks for the concern, but in this condition, there’s nothing to worry about,” Yin Qingyue joked. But why had Leng Feng appeared so promptly?

“You really like to joke, Miss Yin,” Leng Feng said helplessly. If not for Prince Jing’s orders, he wouldn’t have gone searching for her so early. Luckily, he found her here, otherwise…

“Where’s your prince?” Yin Qingyue asked suddenly.

“Prince Jing has been waiting for you for some time! Can’t wait to see him?” Leng Feng said mockingly.

Since taking Yin Qingyue back to Beihao, Leng Feng knew it had been a mistake.

He knew that having been with Prince Jing in Xize for half a year, Yin Qingyue had already caused numerous troubles. At first, she had torn at the prince’s clothes and refused to admit it. If not for Prince Jing’s cleverness, who knew when she would confess?

In the Xize palace, Yin Qingyue had treated the empress, and the prince vouched for her. Whenever she faced danger, Prince Jing would always save her.

“Miss Yin, our prince has done so much for you. Don’t you appreciate it? How many women in the world would give anything to be with him, yet you act indifferent!” Leng Feng complained.

What Leng Feng didn’t realize was that it was Yin Qingyue’s unique qualities that attracted Chu Jingcheng. Her tearing his clothes had been only the catalyst; her personal charm sparked his feelings.

Yin Qingyue didn’t need to explain anything to Leng Feng, so she said nothing.

After meeting at the brothel, Prince Jing surely knew about it. She wondered what his expression would be.

After more than half an hour, the carriage arrived at the main gate.

“Miss Yin, we’re here. Get out,” Leng Feng said calmly. They had come early to avoid attention.

Prince Jing stood there, clad in white robes, as statuesque as a sculpture.

“The lady has been brought back.”

“Yin Qingyue, have you forgotten what I told you?” Chu Jingcheng’s eyes, sharp as an eagle’s, fixed on her.

“It’s just a brothel. Are you so worried because I might discover a secret? Or because you owe some debts of… indulgence?” Yin Qingyue said. Mentioning the brothel made her involuntarily think of Miss Qingqing—surely connected to the prince.

“What secret could I have? If you wish, you may go and find out,” Chu Jingcheng’s lips curved slightly. Is she jealous?

Yin Qingyue didn’t answer and walked into the gate.

A sharp voice followed behind: “You went to the brothel alone?”

Looking at him, she knew he had no idea Miss Qingqing had invited her. “I went to the brothel. Selling myself—does that concern you?”

Leng Feng, annoyed, immediately interjected: “With your looks? Selling yourself? You’d only be a servant. No brothel would take you!”

“Exactly. Leng Feng knows so much about brothels—does that make him a regular?” Yin Qingyue retorted coldly.

No one, except Chu Jingcheng, had ever seen her true appearance.

Chu Jingcheng smirked meaningfully. “If you did sell yourself, it would be good. I’d buy you and see how you’d run.”

She hadn’t expected him to say something so shameless.

After saying that, he put away the smile and spoke calmly: “If you’re uncomfortable in Beihao, Miss Yin, there’s no need to worry. You can return to Xize anytime. I won’t stop you.”

“You think ahead, Prince Jing. But sorry, I’m not leaving for now.” She entered her room, finding Mei’er napping.

“Miss, you’re back?” Mei’er opened her eyes. The sun was already high, almost noon.

“Too late—almost noon, and I haven’t done anything!”

“No worries. I went searching for herbs, finally found them!” Yin Qingyue said, revealing a small herb in her hand.

“What herb? It’s just a little plant. Was it worth the trouble?” Mei’er asked, puzzled.

“This is Malan herb, good for blood circulation. Rare in Beihao—I’ve been searching all morning!”

“Miss, you’ve worked hard. I’ll brew it for you so you can recover quickly!” Mei’er said excitedly and ran off to the kitchen.

Before leaving, she saw Prince Jing and immediately bowed.

Chu Jingcheng waved her up, signaling her to stand. Mei’er smiled at her mistress and Prince Jing before leaving the room.

Looking at Yin Qingyue, Chu Jingcheng teased lightly: “Why didn’t you let your maid know about going to the brothel?”

“Mei’er is simple-minded. I didn’t want her to overthink.”

“And you’re not afraid I’ll overthink?”

“Prince Jing, surely you know why I went?”

Chu Jingcheng looked at her deeply. Is she really jealous?

If so, he relaxed. Then he lifted his hand to touch her face: “When will you remove that ugly makeup so I can have a proper feel?”

Acting like a rogue, Yin Qingyue was about to protest, but his hand withdrew, and he chuckled lightly before turning away.

From that laugh, she could tell—he was in a good mood.
