“Mei’er, how did you manage to come here?” Yin Qingyue asked curiously. With Mei’er’s abilities, it would have been impossible for her to come here alone—especially to a place like the Luocheng Courtyard. Just dealing with the matrons there would have been enough to make things difficult.
“Miss, it was His Highness the Crown Prince who sent me,” Mei’er said with a smile. In her heart, she was deeply grateful to the Crown Prince—every time the young lady encountered danger, he always managed to provide timely help.
“The Crown Prince?” Yin Qingyue asked in disbelief. She knew that the Crown Prince had been busy handling state affairs lately. How could he have had the time to worry about her matters, let alone personally arrange to bring her personal maid here? Such concern was something Yin Qingyue found hard to bear.
“Yes, Miss. His Highness sent people to the Luocheng Courtyard and then had this servant brought here,” Mei’er said with a smile. If it hadn’t been for the Crown Prince sending her here, she probably wouldn’t even have been able to take care of her young lady.
“Mm.” Yin Qingyue replied lightly. Right now, the most important matter was not this, but the Empress’s condition.
If the Empress could not be awakened within three days, not only would Yin Qingyue be unable to save her own life, Mei’er’s life would be even more hopeless.
“Miss, what are you thinking about? I noticed you’ve been frowning this whole time,” Mei’er said.
“The Empress has fallen unconscious again recently. If we don’t wake Her Majesty soon, I’m afraid neither of us will be safe,” Yin Qingyue said frankly, voicing her concerns. In front of Mei’er, she felt at ease.
“Miss, your medical skills are superb. How could you possibly fail to cure her?” Mei’er said with a smile. She had always had great faith in her young lady’s medical abilities. If it weren’t for Miss’s extraordinary skills, both she and Miss would have ended up in the Luocheng Courtyard long ago—how could they have come to the Yangwei Palace?
All of this was thanks to Miss’s medical expertise.
Yin Qingyue could see Mei’er’s thoughts clearly. Such a simple-minded maid made her feel a little heartache.
“Miss, you should rest well first,” Mei’er said quickly, helping Yin Qingyue sit by the bed.
“Mm. Mei’er, take those medicinal herbs on the table to the kitchen. It’s best to simmer them slowly over a low flame—only then can their full medicinal effects be brought out,” Yin Qingyue said as she slowly closed her eyes. Right now, only by resting well could she have the energy to treat the Empress.
She did not want a repeat of last time. If Chu Jingcheng were to seize another handle against her, she might as well be dead.
“Miss, don’t worry. Leave it to Mei’er,” Mei’er said, casting a worried glance at Yin Qingyue. She had only been away from Miss for a short while, yet Miss’s body had already become so weak. Though she didn’t understand much about herbs, anything Miss entrusted to her, she would do with all her heart.
At the capital’s guesthouse.
“Your Highness, have you heard? It seems the Divine Physician has made a life-or-death wager with His Majesty. She has three days to wake the Empress—otherwise, that Divine Physician is as good as dead,” Leng Feng said nervously.
Idle gossip in the palace spread the fastest, and it had quickly reached Leng Feng’s ears. Being a gossip-lover, he naturally paid attention—especially since it concerned a woman his master cared about.
“Yin Qingyue?” Prince Jing frowned slightly. Why was she always stirring up trouble? He couldn’t help but worry.
Although her medical skills were exceptional, three days was far too harsh.
“Your Highness?” Seeing Prince Jing deep in thought, Leng Feng realized that his master seemed quite concerned about that Divine Physician. It looked like he had said the right thing.
“Is the information reliable?” Prince Jing stopped plucking the strings in his hand, his expression serious.
“It shouldn’t be false.”
The corner of Prince Jing’s mouth curved into a faint, bitter smile. She really was worrying.
“How is the Divine Physician now?” Prince Jing stood up, clearly concerned.
“Your Highness, you seem very concerned about that Divine Physician,” Leng Feng said knowingly, a mischievous smile on his face.
A cold glint flashed in Chu Jingcheng’s eyes, as if telling him that this was none of his business.
“She’s currently recuperating in the Yangwei Palace. She fainted while treating the Empress,” Leng Feng said with a grin. Every time he teased his master like this, he was sure to receive Prince Jing’s cold stare.
“Leng Feng,” Leng Yi called softly, his words carrying an unspoken warning—don’t say what shouldn’t be said, and don’t stir up trouble.
“You two may withdraw,” Prince Jing said calmly, though his eyes were filled with worry.
After the two left—
“Where did you get the information?” Leng Yi asked curiously. This was rather unusual—Leng Yi, who was usually quite aloof, was actually asking Leng Feng such a question.
“I went to inquire myself. Seeing how concerned His Highness is about the Divine Physician, I thought I’d help gather some news. That’s only reasonable,” Leng Feng said with a roguish smile, his eyes gleaming.
“So that’s how it is,” Leng Yi sighed. The concern Prince Jing had shown today was something Leng Yi rarely saw. It was rare indeed for there to be a woman who could stir their master’s heart—though unfortunately, that woman’s looks were a bit lacking.
“Maybe His Highness likes that type,” Leng Feng said, as if reading Leng Yi’s thoughts.
“Perhaps.”
In Xiyang Courtyard.
Yin Qingyue lay on the bed, breathing evenly, unaware that someone was constantly thinking of her.
“Keep your voice down, Miss is sleeping,” Mei’er said softly, afraid her movements might wake her.
“Mei’er,” Yin Qingyue said, her tone tinged with fatigue.
“Miss, did I wake you?” Mei’er said guiltily, her face full of apology as she fidgeted with the hem of her skirt.
“It’s nothing. I’ve rested enough. Is the medicine ready?” Yin Qingyue asked with a smile, showing no hint of blame. She hadn’t slept this peacefully in a long time.
“Miss, it’ll be ready soon. I’ll go check,” Mei’er said, then turned and left the room.
Yin Qingyue’s complexion had improved somewhat. In the past few days, she had devoted all her energy to developing the antidote, neglecting her own health.
“This little matter won’t stump me,” Yin Qingyue said with a smile, confidence shining in her eyes. She was the Divine Physician—if she couldn’t even take care of her own body, wouldn’t that be an insult to the title?
“Miss, the medicine is here,” Mei’er said carefully as she brought in a bowl of medicine, afraid of spilling it.
“Mm, just set it aside,” Yin Qingyue said lightly. Her thoughts were still on the Empress. She vaguely felt that something was amiss, but she couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the problem lay.
“Miss, let me feed you,” Mei’er said with a smile.
“Mm.” Yin Qingyue nodded in assent. Mei’er was always thinking about her—if she didn’t let her feed the medicine, the girl would surely overthink again.
“Miss, when I went to the kitchen, I heard the palace maids gossiping about you again,” Mei’er said, frowning in displeasure. In her heart, Miss was capable of anything—how could those maids dare gossip about her behind her back?
“Pay them no mind,” Yin Qingyue said. She had never cared about others’ opinions. Since ancient times, no matter how perfect a person was, they would always be criticized. She was merely a Divine Physician—there was no need to concern herself with such matters. It would only add to her burdens.
“But Miss, it still makes me uncomfortable,” Mei’er said, looking aggrieved. She didn’t want her mistress to suffer any injustice.
“Mei’er, you must understand that we’re in the Yangwei Palace now. There are many people and many mouths—let them say what they want.”
“Yes, Miss,” Mei’er replied with her head lowered.
Yin Qingyue knew that the intrigues of the harem were exceedingly complex.
“Miss, come, drink the medicine,” Mei’er said softly, blowing on the spoon before bringing it to her lips.
