Once the stall was packed up, Lin Tianyue told Yingzi to walk Zhang Qiao home.

Zhang Qiao’s clear, lively eyes lingered on him. That morning, even though Lin Tianyue’s words hadn’t exactly been pleasant, he’d been running around nonstop, doing plenty of work without cutting corners.

Zhang Qiao had always had a soft spot for men who talked little but worked hard. A sharp tongue could be trained; laziness, though, was beyond saving.

Zhang Qiao asked, “Then what about you—where are you going?”

Chen Gang knew exactly what Lin Tianyue was up to. Slipping an arm around his shoulder, he teased, “Sister-in-law is really clingy, huh, caring so much about where Brother Yue’s headed. Don’t keep too tight a rein—men hate being managed, right, Brother Yue?”

Lin Tianyue frowned. “Why don’t you ask Yingzi that first?”

Chen Gang’s face fell instantly. He forced an awkward grin at Yingzi. “It’s fine. I’m happy when Yingzi manages me.”

Yingzi shot him a sideways glance. “Happy, huh? Then where are you planning to go run wild?”

Chen Gang shot Lin Tianyue a desperate look for help.

Turning to Zhang Qiao, Lin Tianyue said, “I’m going to catch a fair. Anything you want to eat or buy?”

Zhang Qiao thought about it seriously. She’d been busy all morning, smelling greasy smoke the whole time, and it was starting to make her feel sick of it.

“I want candied hawthorns!”

Chen Gang blurted out, “Sister-in-law, you really know how to pick—where are you going to find candied hawthorns at this hour—”

“Alright!” Lin Tianyue agreed without hesitation. “You and Yingzi head back first. Be careful on the ride.”

They walked quite a distance before Chen Gang finally exploded in disbelief. “Brother Yue, you actually agreed to that? Where are you supposed to buy her candied hawthorns? I’m telling you, women can’t be spoiled too much. You think you can just agree first and not bring anything back? Careful—she’ll get mad. Especially pregnant women—their cravings are fierce. Miss one bite and—watch out—she might eat you alive…”

Lin Tianyue shot him a cold look. “Why are you so damn talkative? Doesn’t Yingzi find you annoying?”

“I—”

Lin Tianyue wasn’t actually going to any fair. Instead, he and Chen Gang once again lured Zheng Wencai out.

Ever since getting beaten up last time, Zheng Wencai hadn’t dared report it. No choice—he had way too much dirt on himself. But staying cooped up at home for so long made him restless. At noon, a friend invited him out for drinks. Just as he stepped outside, he found a briefcase by his door.

He opened it—and inside was a thick bundle of crisp, white banknotes.

It was a whole briefcase full of money!!!

Zheng Wencai had never seen so much cash in his life. His eyes nearly popped out. Forget drinks—he grabbed the briefcase and hurried back home, stuffing the fortune away in a hiding spot.

He’d barely finished hiding it when there was a knock at the door.

Annoyed, he went to open it. The door flew open—and a flying kick slammed straight into him. With a heavy thud, Zheng Wencai crashed into the wall, every bone in his body nearly shaking apart.

“F—what the hell… n-no way… B-Brother Yue?!”

Zheng Wencai was about to spew curses when he met those icy, ruthless black eyes. He was so scared his hair stood on end, and he scrambled up from the floor.

Before he could even steady himself, Lin Tianyue kicked him down again. “Zheng Wencai, you’ve got some nerve—stealing the public funds I just got approved. Where’s the money? Hand it over!”

Lin Tianyue stood over him, his presence crushing, enough to chill anyone to the bone.

And Chen Gang was right beside him—just as intimidating.

Zheng Wencai was dumbfounded. “What public funds? Brother Yue, I’ve never seen them!”

“Still talking back!”

“No, no, I wouldn’t dare. Brother Yue, it’s a misunderstanding—really—”

Before he could finish, Chen Gang grabbed him by the collar and slapped him hard several times. Two teeth flew out.

“I’ll ask you one more time—where’s the money?!”

Lin Tianyue’s voice made him tremble. By now, Zheng Wencai finally understood—the huge sum he’d picked up belonged to Lin Tianyue.

And because it was Lin Tianyue’s, he dared even less to admit it.

“Brother Yue, I’ve been wronged—”

Lin Tianyue shot Chen Gang a look. Chen Gang strode into the kitchen, and in less than a minute, came back out with the briefcase, untouched.

“Witnesses and evidence are all here. Zheng Wencai, you’ve really grown some guts—stealing public funds!”

Chen Gang stomped on his chest and signaled Lin Tianyue. “Brother Yue, let’s report him.”

The moment he heard “report,” Zheng Wencai nearly wet himself. Stealing public funds was a serious crime—even if it wasn’t the death penalty, it’d mean at least ten or twenty years behind bars.

Even if he knew Lin Tianyue had set him up, so what? He had no evidence. And the money really was found in his house.

After the last brutal beating, Zheng Wencai was already at his breaking point. Now facing prison, he panicked completely, kowtowing over and over.

“Brother Yue, I was wrong! Please, show mercy—spare me this once! I’ll be your ox, your horse—whatever you want! I’ll do anything! I just beg you—don’t report me!”

Lin Tianyue dragged over a long bench and sat down, steady as a mountain, watching Zheng Wencai grovel like a clown until he completely broke.

“Zheng Wencai,” Lin Tianyue asked slowly, word by word, “stealing public funds—the funds I’m using to run a factory—found in your house. Do you admit it?”

Zheng Wencai lay sprawled on the ground like a dog. “I admit it, Brother Yue! I was wrong—really wrong!”

“Good. As long as you admit it.” Lin Tianyue snorted and handed a prepared document to Chen Gang. Chen Gang forced Zheng Wencai to sign and press his fingerprint himself.

With that, they had his leverage.

Zheng Wencai knew full well how badly this hurt him—but he had no choice.

He could only watch helplessly as Lin Tianyue calmly put the document away.

The idea of making him sign a written statement—he’d learned that from his wife.

Lin Tianyue found it strange himself. Even while handling serious business, his mind drifted to the little woman at home.

Had she made it back yet? Was she tired? Had the three kids given her any trouble?

That slender, pretty figure kept flashing before his eyes, fueling Lin Tianyue’s hatred toward Zheng Wencai for ever harming Zhang Qiao. He wanted nothing more than to smash the man’s head in.

“Zheng Wencai,” Lin Tianyue said, fists clenched as he restrained his rage, “tell me everything that happened that day—every detail.”

Zheng Wencai had completely collapsed. “I’ll talk—I’ll talk. That day, Wang Yan came to me. She asked if I still wanted to be with her. If I did, she said I had to help her with something – pretend to be you, imitate your voice, and call your wife… n-no, sister-in-law. She wanted me to call her and lure her to Shengmin Guesthouse. Brother Yue, I was fooled by that bitch! I had no idea she was trying to hurt someone. If I’d known, even if you gave me ten times the courage, I’d never dare offend you—ah!”

Another solid kick slammed into his chest. He clutched himself, nearly blacking out from the pain.

Now he finally understood—Lin Tianyue was the real King of Hell. Wang Yan had truly ruined him.

Suddenly, Lin Tianyue bent down and yanked him close, his voice icy. “If I send you to the police station now and have you explain everything, do you know what to say?”

“I… I…” Zheng Wencai trembled violently. “Brother Yue, teach me. Whatever you tell me to say, I’ll say it…”

As long as they didn’t report him. As long as they let him live.

Lin Tianyue despised cowardly men most of all. And he knew—with a spine like this, even with ten more lifetimes, Zheng Wencai wouldn’t dare provoke him again.

“Good. Then listen carefully. I’ll teach you.”
