Lin Tianyue: How does that make him useless?

He’s a normal man, okay? She kept bouncing on him—anyone who isn’t castrated would react.

Zhang Qiao took advantage of his distraction, jumped again, and finally snatched the book away. Feeling that his hand on her waist was in the way, she deliberately tickled his ribs with her small hand.

Someone suddenly tensed all over: “Zhang Qiao, what are you doing!”

But Zhang Qiao had already wriggled out of his embrace and returned to the desk, teasing him as she went: “Oh my, so sensitive! Lin Tianyue, I see a lot of men like you—why do you act so pure? Is it real purity, or just pretending?”

Lin Tianyue never expected that a grown man could be teased like this by a little woman.

The tingling at his back and ribs lingered.

He was all tense, his face turning bright red.

He opened the window to get some fresh air, which helped a little, and then stared at her graceful figure, murmuring softly: “I’ll let you off for a few days, but we’ll see how I deal with you later!”

Zhang Qiao, still focused on translating, suddenly turned her head: “What did you just say?”

“Nothing!”

The man grumbled in a muffled voice and went out to take a shower.

When he returned, he held a bundle of red silk thread—which was actually thin electric wire wrapped in plastic.

He placed a stool in the center of the room, stood on it, and fiddled with the light bulb for a while, wrapping the thin wires around it.

Once done, he instructed Zhang Qiao: “Go turn the light off and then back on.”

Zhang Qiao obeyed, switched off the light, and waited until Lin Tianyue told her to turn it back on.

The previously dim bulb suddenly blazed brightly, lighting up the entire room.

Zhang Qiao looked at Lin Tianyue with some surprise and delight. He bent his long legs and jumped down from the stool.

“Let’s leave it like this for now. Until we buy a proper lamp cover, it’ll do. Tomorrow I’ll modify the other bulbs outside so they won’t hurt your eyes.”

A smile bloomed on Zhang Qiao’s bright face: “Thank you, Lin Tianyue. You really think ahead.”

Lin Tianyue glanced at her and bent down to tidy the wires on the floor. His voice was low and muffled: “Zhang Qiao, remember that call I took earlier? The feed factory is being built, so I’ll need to go out of town for a few days to finalize contracts and get some equipment. I was supposed to go a few days ago, but the kids were sick, so it got delayed. I might be gone longer—can you handle things at home with the kids alone?”

Zhang Qiao paused her work: “How long will you be gone?”

Lin Tianyue kept his head down: “It’s hard to say. Maybe ten days to half a month if things go fast, maybe longer if not.”

“I see.”

Zhang Qiao thought about what needed arranging at home, and then suddenly remembered her spendthrift younger brother. Her worry flared up: “What if Zhang Song comes causing trouble again?”

“Impossible. Last time we beat him so badly, he won’t dare show up for a while.”

“True.”

Lin Tianyue stood and looked at her back: “Anything heavy at home, like carrying water or moving stuff, if you can’t handle it, go ask Chen Gang or Da Lin. I’ve told them already. Tomorrow I’ll bring some things to Neighbor Liu to help look after you. Her family works at the supply and marketing office—if you need something, you can ask her to buy it, or have her go to the market for you. She also has a phone; if anything happens, call me. I’ll give you my number. Lin Xun is older now, he can help with chores too.”

Zhang Qiao listened quietly. Lin Tianyue had arranged everything neatly.

This was one of Lin Tianyue’s strengths—though he seemed rough and straightforward, he handled things meticulously and systematically.

Lin Tianyue: “Think about it—anything else you want me to do?”

Zhang Qiao turned back and continued translating: “You’ve arranged everything well. Don’t worry. The kids and I get along fine now. In a few days, when Zhou Xiaoxiao comes for lessons, I’ll just teach all four of them together.”

Mentioning Zhou Xiaoxiao reminded Lin Tianyue of Zhou Junlin: “Will it be inconvenient for her to come here for lessons?”

“She has a car. There’s no inconvenience, and I don’t need to go to her place. It’s fine—don’t worry about it.”

“Mm.”

Lin Tianyue opened his mouth, but swallowed his words.

In truth, he trusted Zhang Qiao more and more, which allowed him to leave for this trip with peace of mind.

Zhou Junlin had given him plenty of guidance these past days; he needed to get the factory built quickly and strike first.

For some reason, recently, Lin Tianyue’s drive to succeed and make money had become incredibly strong. It was completely different from the past.

Probably because he didn’t want to disappoint his family.

What others have, his family should have too.

Finally, Lin Tianyue finished tidying up, silently arranging chairs and a stool with a layer of bedding on top.

This was now his temporary bed.

Sitting on it, he watched Zhang Qiao work while habitually reaching for his cigarette case.

Thinking of her being pregnant, he suppressed the urge to smoke.

Zhang Qiao had translated about a third of the book and stretched her wrists out of habit.

At that moment, Lin Tianyue stood up again and silently moved behind her.
