“But what if they come back halfway through?” Zhang Qiao twisted her fingers nervously.

Lin Tianyue glanced at her again, turned the steering wheel, and drove in another direction.

To her surprise, he brought her to the very guesthouse where she had once stayed. After parking, he said nothing—just grabbed her wrist and led her inside.

Zhang Qiao was a little nervous, but she didn’t want Lin Tianyue to notice.

After all, she had always acted like some experienced flirt, teasing him whenever she got the chance. If she backed out now that things were serious, wouldn’t he laugh at her forever?

They registered their IDs downstairs. By sheer coincidence—or maybe not—the receptionist gave them the exact same room Zhang Qiao had stayed in when she had stormed out after a quarrel.

When the door opened and she saw the familiar bedding inside, she turned back and shot Lin Tianyue a complicated look.

Back then, they had made an agreement here: after one year, once the baby was born, they would divorce.

Yet less than a year later, they were back in the same room, planning to do something far more intimate.

Zhang Qiao was certain Lin Tianyue had done this on purpose. This proud man probably wanted to prove just how powerful his ability to turn things around was.

Once the door shut, her heart tightened again.

She walked toward the window, intending to open it for some air, when she heard him say behind her, “Qiaoqiao, close the curtains.”

Zhang Qiao: That’s not what I meant!

Now it made her look like she’d come here eager to pull them shut.

Still, her hands obediently drew both layers of curtains tight.

The room darkened. When she turned around, Lin Tianyue had already taken off his coat and was sitting at the foot of the bed, gazing at her tenderly.

“Come here.”

He reached out his hand.

Zhang Qiao moved slowly toward him, desperately telling herself not to be nervous, not to chicken out, not to let this big rough guy laugh at her.

But when she stood in front of his knees, she couldn’t stop herself from tensing.

Lin Tianyue had already caught her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

The next second, her slender waist landed in his burning palm, and her legs were pinned between his.

He said nothing. His hand moved upward, unfastening the toggles of her coat one by one. In the dim light, the faint sound of breathing and the soft rustle of fabric against fabric felt unbearably intimate.

Her heartbeat skyrocketed.

In no time, their clothes were scattered on the floor.

Still seated, he began kissing her carefully—shallow at first, then deeper, from gentle to intense.

Zhang Qiao’s whole body went weak. Just as she felt herself melting and barely able to stand, Lin Tianyue suddenly lifted her into his arms.

Their eyes met, and she flushed helplessly.

At this moment, he looked… so full of desire.

“Tianyue…” Her voice was soft like a kitten’s, lingering and tender.

“Don’t be nervous.” With long strides, he headed—not to the bed—but toward the bathroom.

He kissed her ear. “Wife, let’s listen to the doctor and take a shower first.”

They stayed at the guesthouse until nightfall, going at it two or three times. By the end, both of them were exhausted.

Especially Zhang Qiao. She lay on the bed, her legs still trembling.

Damn it. What happened to taking things step by step? What happened to being gentle?

A man who had just broken his abstinence was like a hungry wolf. Even in the bathroom, he couldn’t hold back…

In any case, Zhang Qiao’s back ached, her legs felt weak, and she didn’t even have the strength to go home and coax the kids.

She kicked Lin Tianyue twice, telling him to hurry and call home to see whether the children had returned.

Bare-chested, with only a thin bath towel wrapped around his waist, Lin Tianyue got out of bed. His muscles were beautifully defined, taut and powerful.

He used the guesthouse phone to call home, but no one answered.

Glancing at his watch, he saw it was already seven in the evening.

Had Jin Quan not brought them back yet?

Zhang Qiao lay weakly on the bed. “They’re not back?”

“Probably not. Maybe Old Jin took them out for dinner.”

“Then call my sister. Ask if Xia Xia’s behaving.”

Standing on the carpet, Lin Tianyue dialed the restaurant.

Unexpectedly, the manager, Ren Hong, said Sister Ling had taken the day off and brought Xia Xia to watch an acrobatics show.

Lin Tianyue paused for a few seconds, gripping the receiver. “One by one, nobody’s home. What a coincidence.”

Zhang Qiao rolled over, the blanket tangled around her. “My sister and Xia Xia aren’t home either?”

She wasn’t worried about them exactly—just that it all felt a bit strange.

Lin Tianyue hung up. “Yeah. They said they went to see the acrobats.”

“Acrobats?”

“It’s almost New Year’s. People are relaxing more, so the circus is lively. By the way, Qiaoqiao, do you want to go? I remember I promised to take you to one.”

She shot him a glare. “You still remember that?”

Seeing how fragile she looked, Lin Tianyue broke into a silly grin.

“You want me to go now?” she complained resentfully. “I don’t even have the strength.”

He nodded. “Alright. Another day, I’ll take you properly.”

“But why would my sister take Xia Xia to an acrobatics show? She’s not usually into that kind of thing.”

Lin Tianyue strode over, pulled Zhang Qiao into his arms, and let her lie across his legs. Casually, he said, “Maybe the kids asked her. Thought watching a movie was boring and wanted something different. If they’re together, Old Jin’s there too. He’s reliable. Nothing will happen. Since they’re not home, let’s lie down a bit longer. Rare to get some peace and quiet.”

Zhang Qiao rolled her eyes.

Peace and quiet?

He hadn’t been idle for a single second since they walked in!

Lin Tianyue brushed the hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. “But you know, Jin Quan’s usually pretty aloof. Yet he seems to have a lot to talk about with your sister. I’ve seen them chatting happily a few times.”

“Really?”

She had been about to drift off to sleep, but suddenly something clicked in her mind. Her eyes flew open.

Right—something was odd.

Last time she’d seen her sister buy sexy lingerie, she’d said Li Sao had picked it up for her. But later, when Zhang Qiao asked Sister Li which store it came from, the woman had been completely confused.

She’d thought her sister was just secretly flirtatious. Now that she thought about it, something wasn’t right.

Could her sister have something going on with Jin Quan?

Zhang Qiao swatted away Lin Tianyue’s wandering hand and sat up abruptly.

He blinked. “What’s wrong?”

“Big rough guy, let’s go watch the acrobatics too. You owe me!”

Ignoring her aching back and trembling legs, she scrambled off the bed in a rush to investigate and confirm her suspicions.

In no time, she was dressed and tossing Lin Tianyue’s clothes at him, ordering him to get dressed quickly.

He wasn’t too keen. “Qiaoqiao, if we go now, it might already be over. If you want to watch, we can go another day.”

She gave him no chance to refuse. “Hurry up. I’ll wait downstairs.”

Five minutes later, Lin Tianyue came down reluctantly. Zhang Qiao was already in the car ahead of him.

As he started the engine, he said, “Qiaoqiao, why do I feel like you’re not really going to watch acrobatics?”

Like what, he couldn’t quite say.

But women—well, they were like the wind and rain, unpredictable. As long as he obeyed, things would be fine. Offering opinions would only spark internal conflict.

This sly yet impatient man left her completely speechless.
