Zhang Qiao glanced at him sideways. “What, your ribs can’t be touched? Your hair can’t be touched either? Is there anywhere on you that can’t be touched?”
Lin Tianyue met her flirtatious gaze.
Here we go again, he thought.
So bold with her teasing, but the moment he gets serious, she chickens out.
“There’s nowhere you can’t touch. Your man, from head to toe, belongs to you. But not right now—I’m driving. Tonight, you can touch wherever you like.”
Zhang Qiao: “……”
Wait, why was she blushing?
Zhang Qiao, honestly, have some dignity.
“We’re not even officially married yet. Who said you’re my man?”
“Then let’s go register today.”
“Today?” Zhang Qiao jumped, hurriedly reaching for her bag. “I didn’t bring my documents.”
Lin Tianyue laughed heartily. “Then tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow won’t work either…”
“Any day you choose.” Lin Tianyue looked at her slightly flushed face. “Qiao Qiao, once we get the certificate, we’ll be a real married couple.”
As he spoke, he tightly clasped one of her hands.
His hand was rough and hard, scorching hot around her soft little one. Zhang Qiao felt an unmistakable anticipation in his words.
That anticipation was as intense as his gaze—heavy, pressing.
She squeezed his hand back and smiled at him softly.
At this point, if she kept being picky, she’d just be nitpicking for the sake of it.
Lin Tianyue didn’t dislike having a daughter. On the contrary, he doted on their little girl like crazy. He wasn’t some old-fashioned man obsessed with sons. During her postpartum confinement, he had taken great care of her and was increasingly respectful of her opinions.
Even if he had been a bit chauvinistic before, he was gradually changing.
So she really had no reason to refuse him.
Soon, they arrived in Jiangcheng.
They first went to the restaurant they had contracted. In just over a month, the place had undergone earth-shaking changes.
The basic renovation was complete. The windows had been replaced with classical lattice designs, and the main entrance had an antique elegance. Each private room had been given a refined name. All the furniture was being rushed into production, and the guest rooms upstairs were under intensive renovation as well. Lin Tianyue assured Zhang Qiao not to worry—he would oversee everything personally.
He had also hired several more chefs and was having Li Enhua train them intensively. He had even arranged dormitory accommodations for them.
In short, during the time Zhang Qiao was recovering after childbirth, aside from handling his own business, Lin Tianyue had devoted the rest of his time entirely to her restaurant.
Another advantage added to this rough-and-ready man—not only was he responsible toward his wife and daughter, he was also a reliable business partner.
“Hey, you big brute, let’s invite Chef Li to join us for lunch,” Zhang Qiao suggested after finishing the tour.
“With Li Enhua?” Lin Tianyue thought of how his wife had stared at that man’s photo without blinking and felt a little reluctant.
But Zhang Qiao added, “A good chef is the soul of a restaurant. We’re paying him a high salary—we should show that we value him. And since Gu Yu is also in Jiangcheng, we can all meet up.”
Lin Tianyue had nothing to say to that. “Qiao Qiao, wait here. I’ll call him.”
“Mm.”
Lin Tianyue found a public phone downstairs. “Hello, is Master Li there?”
Soon someone picked up on the other end. “President Lin, you’re looking for me?”
“Enhui, your sister-in-law—the boss of our restaurant—came today. Tidy up and come have a meal with us.”
“…Okay. Oh, President Lin…”
“Just call me Brother Yue. ‘President Lin’ sounds too distant. What else?”
“Well… since it’s my first time meeting the boss, should I dress more formally?”
“No need. We’re all family here. Just keep it casual.”
Fifteen minutes later, when Lin Tianyue and Zhang Qiao drove to the dormitory building, they saw Li Enhua walking toward them—dressed very “casually.”
It was already winter. Jiangcheng had even seen a light snowfall a few days ago.
Lin Tianyue was wearing a black leather jacket and jeans that Gu Yu had brought back from the south. Zhang Qiao wore a burgundy wool coat with flared trousers. Standing together, they looked perfectly matched.
Li Enhua, however, had come down in a thin work uniform.
The clothes were that rough labor cloth, with an old green sweater underneath. His pants and shoes weren’t stylish either, but he looked energetic, and his features were delicate and refined.
Lin Tianyue frowned. “You silly kid, it’s so cold—why aren’t you even wearing a padded coat? I said casual, but not this casual.”
As he spoke, he started taking off his own jacket to give it to him. Li Enhua quickly waved him off.
“Brother Yue, Sister-in-law, it’s fine, I’m not cold. I didn’t expect it to snow in Jiangcheng. I came in a hurry and didn’t bring many clothes. I did have a suit, but Brother Yue said no need to dress so formally.”
When Zhang Qiao suddenly saw someone who had existed in her previous world, her emotions surged.
She kept staring at Li Enhua until Lin Tianyue nudged her with his elbow.
“Oh—right. Master Li, get in the car quickly. You can’t dress like this. How about this, Tianyue—let’s drive to the nearest mall and buy Master Li a couple of padded jackets.”
Sitting in the back seat, Li Enhua waved his hands anxiously. “No need! I haven’t even made you any money yet—how can I let you spend money on me…”
“Don’t be so polite, Master Li. You trusted Tianyue and me enough to come all this way. Since we invited you here, we must make sure you have food and clothing taken care of. Otherwise, how can you have confidence working with us?”
When it came to winning people over, Zhang Qiao always had her ways. A few words warmed Li Enhua’s heart.
At the mall, Zhang Qiao swiftly picked out a puffer jacket that suited him, a creamy white sweater, and a pair of casual trousers.
Li Enhua tried them on. He was young, fair-skinned, with handsome features. After changing clothes, even Lin Tianyue couldn’t help praising him. “Not bad—your sister-in-law has good taste. Chef Li looks like a college student in this outfit—very refined.”
Zhang Qiao’s eyes lit up as well. “Not bad at all. Let’s go with this set!”
“Sister-in-law, Brother Yue, it’s too expensive. Why don’t you deduct it from my salary?”
Lin Tianyue waved his hand. “No need! Once we open, just work hard! I heard there’s a Cantonese restaurant at the Little Red Building by People’s Square—it’s doing booming business. So, Enhua, think you’ve got what it takes to beat them?”
No need to guess—that Little Red Building must belong to Gu Junye.
Just remembering the arrogant attitude of those people when they rented the place last time made Lin Tianyue burn with anger. So what if they were from the capital? Once their restaurant opened, sooner or later he’d crush that Gu guy.
Gu Junye was Gu Yu’s cousin—Lin Tianyue had only learned that recently. The two didn’t get along. Gu Yu’s parents had died early, and he was raised by his grandparents. Without parental backing, he inevitably suffered some grievances growing up in that snobbish circle.
But Gu Yu had said that since childhood, whenever he fought with Gu Junye, he had never once lost.
Li Enhua nodded earnestly. “Brother Yue, I can’t say whether I’m confident or not, but I’ll definitely give it one hundred percent.”
Lin Tianyue punched his shoulder lightly. “That’s all I need to hear!”
