That night, Emperor Xuande looked awkwardly at the mountain of underwear sent over by his three sons and various officials.
So embarrassing! Utterly humiliating!
Could that girl stop eating his drama for once? Wasn’t the court filled with enough juicy gossip for her to feast on?
“Your Majesty, shall we replace your old underwear?” Eunuch Li bowed his head, struggling to keep the corners of his mouth from twitching.
But to be fair, His Majesty’s underwear really was unwearable at this point—it couldn’t even properly cover his backside.
Emperor Xuande sighed and said helplessly, “Change it, then. Since they’ve already been delivered, I might as well use them.” After all, he was still a poor emperor right now.
But once Prince Qi’s estate and the Duke Protector’s mansion were confiscated, he might become a bit more well-off.
What surprised him even more was that this system actually had a protection mechanism—his men had tested that out.

Back at the Lin residence, all the other courtyards had already gone quiet for the night. Only Lin Mo’s courtyard still had its light on.
“Ugh, tomorrow is another day I don’t want to go to work. I won’t be able to get up!” Lin Mo lay sprawled on the bed reading a storybook.
The system, seeing her like this, asked confusedly: [Since you know you won’t be able to get up, why aren’t you sleeping now?]
Lin Mo sighed, got out of bed to pour herself a glass of water, and replied, “I can’t fall asleep. Look how beautiful the night is—why waste it sleeping?”
“Besides, I slept enough during the day. This is the time I feel most awake!”
System: …Well, it had no rebuttal for that.
[I checked the time for you—it’s 2 a.m. in modern time. If you don’t sleep soon, you’re going to bomb tomorrow’s court session.]
[It’s one thing to nod off sneakily, but if you face-plant during the meeting, it’s going to be next-level embarrassing.]
Lin Mo: …
Well, that was true. If she couldn’t sleep and had to go to work tomorrow, she needed a solution that let her stay up and still wake up on time.
Fifteen minutes later, the system looked speechlessly at Lin Mo, who was sneakily carrying a quilt and pillow.
[Where are you planning to take those? That’s your parents’ courtyard over there. Don’t tell me you’re going to sleep with your parents! You’re a grown woman—have some dignity!]
Lin Mo: [Who said I’m sleeping with them? I’m just making a floor bed outside their door. That way, when Dad wakes up, he can take me with him!]
System: …
Night shift servants: …
Seriously? Second Miss was becoming weirder by the day. Carrying a pillow and quilt to sleep outside her parents’ door in the middle of the night—what kind of logic was that?
Lin Mo set up a cozy little floor bed for herself and lay down without the slightest psychological burden. The system was at a loss for words.
Maybe sleeping in someone else’s turf really was more restful—Lin Mo fell asleep not long after lying down and even started snoring.
Inside, Minister Lin and Madam Lin were both frowning from the noise. Madam Lin promptly kicked Minister Lin off the bed.
“If you snore one more time, go sleep in the guest room!”
Minister Lin sat on the floor, completely baffled. “Wait, I’m not snoring! I’m wide awake and the snoring’s still going on—it can’t be me. Maybe it’s the servants on night duty.”
Madam Lin groggily sat up, peeked outside, and said, “Go out and remind them—if they’re tired, just let them go rest properly.”
Snoring this loud in the middle of the night—how was anyone supposed to sleep?
Minister Lin got up silently and opened the door, only for his pupils to instantly dilate before he collapsed with a loud thud.
“Master!” The night-shift servant cried out in shock.
And Lin Mo, amidst all this commotion, remained fast asleep—snoring even louder.
Minister Lin was quickly carried back to bed. Some people pinched his philtrum, others helped him catch his breath. The entire room was in chaos.
Servants kept coming in and out while trying hard not to step on the person sleeping at the door. But that person’s sleep quality was so good that even a thunderstorm wouldn’t wake her.
Lin Qi and Lin Ran rushed over and the first thing they saw was their troublesome little sister sleeping at the doorway.
Lin Qi & Lin Ran: …
System: [I knew this would happen! This damn host! With a daughter like this, no wonder the Lin family’s always in chaos.]
The Lin family: …
The Lin family’s servants: …
Actually, Minister Lin wasn’t hurt—he just got scared out of his wits. After a short break, he recovered.
“That creature—has she woken up yet?!” he said, trembling and pointing at the door. “Get her up right now! Sleeping outside our door in the middle of the night—does she want to scare me and her mother to death?!”
Lin Qi sighed, went over, and yanked Lin Mo off the ground.
Good grief, this girl was actually sleeping in her court robes. Was she planning to get up and go straight to work without even changing?
Lin Mo was still groggy when her big brother dragged her up.
“Brother, what are you doing? I still have to attend morning court! Why are you waking me up now? Are you going to go in my place?” Lin Mo grumbled, half-asleep. “Do you know how exhausting going to work is?”
Lin Qi immediately gave her a firm flick on the forehead. “Exhausting? You think your ‘work’ is exhausting? Look at the mess you’ve made! Look how badly you scared our father!”
“It’s the middle of the night! Why weren’t you sleeping in your own room? What the hell were you doing sleeping outside our parents’ door?!”
Lin Mo instantly sobered up. Looking at her mother trying to stifle her laughter, her father’s dark expression, and her helpless siblings, she quickly asked the system in her head: [What happened?! Why is everyone here?!]
The system replied helplessly: [It’s all because of your snoring. You’re a young lady—how do you snore like a braying donkey?! Your parents got woken up by your snoring, and when your father opened the door and saw you, he got scared out of his wits.]
[Then everything escalated into this scene. I may not have had any other hosts before, but I’m pretty sure you’re the most frustrating one I’ve ever had—or ever will have.]
The system’s tone nearly made everyone burst into laughter. The servants all lowered their heads, trying to hold it in. Lin Qi and Lin Ran bit their lips, shoulders trembling from suppressed laughter. Madam Lin wiped away the tears welling up in her eyes from holding in her laugh, and Minister Lin could barely maintain his angry face.
Honestly, the system had a real way with words—it was spot-on. That snoring really did sound like a donkey braying.

Right idea, poor execution. Foiled by snoring.
