When Lin Mo was six or seven years old, nobody in the family besides Lin Shangshu could lift her anymore.
Looking at this chubby little bundle, Lin Shangshu would break a sweat every single day.
“Lin Mo’er, you should eat a little less or exercise more. Look at all this flesh—you’re heavier than your brother and sister combined.”
Lin Mo was happily holding a roasted chicken and eating it. Glancing at her plump little hands, she puffed up her chest and said confidently, “Daddy, this is called baby fat. It’ll go away once I grow up.”
Lin Shangshu fell silent for two seconds. “You’ve been saying that for two or three years. Your brother and sister have already started growing taller, but you haven’t really grown much in these years—you’ve mostly grown sideways.”
No one in their family had ever been this short. The eldest son and eldest daughter already had the appearance of young teenagers at this age, so why did the youngest still look like a little child?
And she created chaos at home every day, burning so much energy—so why hadn’t she slimmed down?
Just then, Ji Qianhua came back cheerfully carrying two bags of fried dough cakes.
“Mo’er! I bought fried dough cakes. Didn’t you keep saying you wanted some the other day?”
Lin Shangshu: …Ah, so now I know who the real culprit is for why this girl refuses to slim down.
As soon as Ji Qianhua entered, he saw Lin Shangshu looking stern and immediately spun around 180 degrees and tried to escape. He was remarkably smooth in his movements.
“Stop right there!”
Ji Qianhua: !!!
Lin Mo didn’t care whether her father was angry. She ran straight to grab the fried dough cakes she had been longing for.
After taking a deep whiff, she looked utterly delighted. “Mmm, this is the flavor!”
Just as she was about to take a bite, Lin Shangshu snatched the food back from her mouth.
“You’re still eating? Look at how fat you’ve gotten!”
Her face, which resembled his the most, had now become completely round.
Not long ago, when he took this little rascal out shopping, they ran into two colleagues. The two couldn’t stop laughing when they saw her.
Their eyes kept darting from him to her, but don’t think he didn’t know what they were thinking.
Lin Mo had been quite pleased at the time, whispering to herself, wondering if it was because she was too cute that the adults enjoyed teasing her so much.
Lin Shangshu didn’t even want to speak. It was obvious those two were doing it on purpose.
“Uncle, I know I was wrong. I won’t bring her any food again,” Ji Qianhua quickly said as he slid to the ground in a kneeling position.
Mostly, he wanted to get close to this little one because of Lin Ran—after all, Ran adored his little sister the most.
And every time he bought snacks, it was always three portions, never expecting that this girl could eat all three by herself.
Her growth in size couldn’t be blamed on him—it was all because she couldn’t control her appetite.
Lin Shangshu looked at his disciple and sighed helplessly. In a patient tone, he said, “You really can’t spoil her like this anymore. Look at the other children in the capital—none of them are this fat.”
“I can barely lift her now,” he continued. He trained daily, otherwise he’d already be unable to lift her, just like those frail civil officials.
The main problem was that whenever the little rascal climbed somewhere high and wanted him to lift her, she would launch herself downward, and he never knew how tense he should be each time.
Every time he lifted her, he planted his legs wide and lowered his center of gravity. He feared both failing to hold her and getting smashed himself.
If she grew another two years, he really wouldn’t be able to lift her. He had already intensified his training and even started lifting stone locks.
Ji Qianhua knelt humbly on the ground, agreeing verbally without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Lin Mo sat beside them, enjoying her meal as if none of this applied to her.
Even if they didn’t let her eat, she had ways to get food herself. Life is about eating, drinking, and having fun, after all.
Having been born with such good luck, she wasn’t going to waste it.
What she missed in her previous life, she would indulge in now.
When obstacles came, she would find a way—if Ji Qianhua didn’t bring her food, she’d secretly buy it herself.
Yet the family mostly turned a blind eye—at least sneaking out to buy food counted as a little exercise.
The couple often discussed this at night, unsure what to do with their youngest daughter.
She was far too mischievous and difficult to manage—none of their three boys had ever been this uncontrollable.
“Huan-ge, maybe we should hire a tutor for Mo’er. It might help with discipline.”
Lin Shangshu was silent for two seconds, then said, “We tried that before. She braided the tutor’s beard while he slept and used small wooden sticks to curl it.”
That day, after the tutor had a short nap, he came out of the study with a look that would be unforgettable for life.
Delicately wavy curls all over, and he hadn’t noticed at first. Once he discovered it, there was no way he could continue teaching her.
Lady Lin: …so much time has passed, and she actually forgot about it.
She grew increasingly worried. “What should we do? If this continues, we’ll really end up raising a spoiled heir.”
Lin Shangshu thought that was a bit extreme. “Don’t worry, wife. Calling her a spoiled heir is too harsh. Mo’er may be mischievous, but she never bullies anyone. When she plays outside, she helps the weaker kids. Every month, she donates all her allowance, except what she spends on snacks, to the elderly and children in the streets. She won’t become a spoiled heir.”
This was why Lin Shangshu both loved and hated his youngest daughter.
If she truly became a spoiled heir, he could use strict measures. But she was purely mischievous—she played every day without hurting anyone.
And she knew her limits, never crossing the line, which made it all the more exasperating.
The couple exchanged a glance and sighed deeply.
With their first two children, raising kids had seemed easy—but disaster had arrived later.
They had previously heard from others how difficult raising children could be, but thought people exaggerated. Now they realized they had underestimated it.
Lin Mo had no idea she had already become her parents’ biggest concern. She was now happily clutching her doll and napping.
Occasionally, she would sneak out to get into fights. There was one flashy, colorful young boy who was particularly annoying.
Next to him was always a delicate-looking but somewhat silly boy, who would squat nearby whenever the two fought.
After the fight, that boy would even buy snacks for them both. Nobody could tell whose side he was on.
