“Just what is wrong with this child? Why does she always have to lie on me? Am I really that comfortable?”
Holding Lin Mo in his arms while reading, Lin Shangshu complained. His first two children had never been this clingy. Though he personally raised them until they were two or three, at least there had been a nanny around. But this child was completely different.
She didn’t like being held by anyone else—only her own family could touch her, and among them she liked sticking to him the most.
Lady Lin lazily fanned herself. “Children like you—what can you do? And aren’t you enjoying it quite a lot?”
Just look at his massage technique, how carefully he tended to their daughter—no nanny was ever this attentive.
Lin Shangshu: “…”
Lin Mo was practically over the moon. Life was just too good.
Only after being born did she truly feel how wonderful this family was—most importantly, she had a pair of excellent parents.
Especially her father. He was far more reliable than most modern dads. No matter how much she cried or fussed, her old man was amazing!
He was incredible at coaxing babies, incredible at holding babies, and he could even sing lullabies. He was basically a model father of the 21st century!
“Ah ah ah!” Lin Mo stretched out her little hands, reaching upward. Her newborn eyes were still blurry, so she could only use touch to figure out what her family looked like.
So far, she had concluded that her father had smooth skin, no beard, a tall nose bridge, deep-set eyes, thick brows, and long eyelashes. Obviously, a very handsome man.
Mother must also be a great beauty—her fingers were slender and soft, her skin smooth like cream, and she smelled nice.
Her older siblings were still too young to hold her, and touching them just felt squishy all over—like all little kids, she couldn’t judge their looks yet.
But preliminary evaluation: this was definitely a high-appearance-value family.
“Aiya, drooling again! Lin Mo’er, you silly girl, always smiling and drooling—why do you look so… unintelligent?”
Lin Shangshu scrambled to wipe her mouth. Why did this child have so much drool? And why did she smile so foolishly every day?
Lin Mo: This isn’t foolishness! This is happiness! Who wouldn’t be happy with such a wonderful family?
Feeling her father’s finger brush her cheek, Lin Mo immediately grabbed it and stuffed it into her mouth.
Lady Lin: “Bite him! Mo’er, bite him!”
Her favorite daily entertainment was watching her husband interact with their daughter.
This man always pretended to be serious outside. Everyone said he was rigid—but where was the rigidity now?
Lin Shangshu pulled his finger out of Lin Mo’s mouth helplessly and sighed at his wife. “My lady, the child doesn’t even have teeth yet. And how can you tell her to bite me?”
Lady Lin smiled brilliantly. “It’s fun. And didn’t we agree before? You’re in charge of raising this child. Seeing how well you two get along, I believe you’ll raise her wonderfully.”
Lin Mo: “Ah ah ah ah!” (No! I want to be a little rascal!)
…Do girls even get to be rascals? Whatever—she absolutely refused to study in the future.
Lin Shangshu fell silent for a moment, then sighed deeply.
It really felt like he had dug a hole for himself. Looking at his daughter making funny faces (though Lin Mo was actually expressing anger and protest), he pinched her little cheek gently.
“You’d better make me proud in the future, or your mother will laugh at me for life.”
No matter how much Lin Mo clung to him, Lin Shangshu still had to go to court every day.
She had already figured out the schedule: three days off per month, and the rest of the time her father was very busy, able to play with her only in the mornings and evenings.
Yes—she still slept with her parents every night. She hated sleeping alone, and she hated sleeping with the nanny.
Why sleep with others when her parents were right there? So this tiny girl took up half the bed and insisted on sleeping sprawled across her father’s stomach.
“Hey, Lin Shangshu, why do you always smell like milk lately? These past two months the scent’s only getting stronger. Is it some new kind of incense?”
Every day he went to court smelling like milk. At first people didn’t think much of it, but as time passed, it became strange—especially since the scent kept getting stronger. It was like the milk smell was seeping into him.
Lin Shangshu froze. How was he supposed to answer that? If he said he spent every day taking care of his baby, who knew what these officials would think?
But if he didn’t say that, what excuse could he use?
After much mental struggle, he came up with something: “I heard goat milk and cow milk are very nourishing recently, so I’ve been drinking a lot. Perhaps that’s why.”
Everyone suddenly understood. And with his extremely handsome face as proof—
No wonder he hadn’t aged at all these past years! Clearly he had many methods for health and beauty. Everyone needed to copy him!
Seeing them fooled, Lin Shangshu quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
Looks like he’d better start perfuming his clothes more. Going around smelling like milk every day was not sustainable.
From that day forward, officials suddenly became obsessed with drinking milk, and Emperor Xuande even raised a few goats in the palace.
“Hey, why is Lord Lin so stingy? Look at him—healthy, glowing, looking young—and he won’t even share his secret methods.”
The emperor, distressed by his own wrinkles from dealing with state affairs and financial problems, was nearly in tears.
That very morning, milk prices shot up across the capital. Lin Shangshu was stunned when he learned about it later.
He had only said something casually! Just a random excuse! Were these people insane?
But what could he do? His face alone was enough to be a full advertisement.
From youth until now, the only change was going from a young man to a slightly older young man—he still didn’t look old at all.
Meanwhile, many of his contemporaries had aged ten years from the pressure of court affairs.
“Ah ah ah ah!” That night, Lin Mo lay on the bed shouting with great enthusiasm—so enthusiastically she even created a rhythm.
Lady Lin let her roll around freely; she was already used to it.
“Stop shouting, your father will be back soon.”
This little girl was a tiny troublemaker. It was fortunate she couldn’t walk or talk yet—otherwise raising her would be exhausting.
She was already exhausting enough as it was.
