“Did you see clearly? Are they really heading toward us?”
A group of men of various ethnicities hid in a room, secretly observing the situation outside. The room was filled with all kinds of guns and ammunition.
“Shit! Don’t tell me they’re really coming for us? What do we do now? The South Bay waters are sealed off—if we get caught, we’ll rot in prison.”
“Boss, what do we do? Say something!”
The one-eyed man had a dark expression, his face grave as he looked at his brothers.
They were pirates from the Woliu Sea region, notorious criminals. In order to strengthen their power, they had come to Country A to acquire military weapons. Originally, they had blended into the Bai family’s ship to conceal their identity—but unexpectedly, they had still been discovered.
The man bit down on his cigar and, after a moment of hesitation, said coldly, “Let’s observe first. It might not be coming for us.”
As soon as his words fell, the door outside was kicked hard.
The expressions of the group of pirates changed drastically. The one-eyed man threw away his cigar, picked up the submachine gun in his hand, and roared, “Brothers, we fight them!”
The man outside who had kicked the door was pulled back by his companion.
“The hall master ordered us to go to the top floor.”
The man frowned strangely. “I think I just lost control for a moment.”
“Enough! Keep up.”
The two had just turned around when the door behind them suddenly opened. Before they could react, a long chain was looped around their necks. One of them, in his final moments, forcefully pulled the trigger in his hand.
“Bang—”
A gunshot rang out.
Shen Rang’s steps halted as he lowered his gaze toward the stairs.
The pirates knew they had already been exposed and directly opened fire as they charged into the main banquet hall.
The entire cruise ship descended into chaos. Guests screamed in terror and fled in all directions; in an instant, the crowd erupted into panic and trampling.
Shen Lanxi and Shen Qingyu exchanged a look. Gao Zhi led a group of dark guards, forming a human wall in front of them.
“Bang—”
Another gunshot!
One of the men in the human wall was shot dead and collapsed. Gao Zhi immediately filled the gap again, his gaze sharp as an eagle, scanning in all directions.
“Two o’clock direction—sniper.”
The sniper hiding under the room window realized he had been exposed. He quickly removed his mask, opened the door, and blended into the fleeing crowd.
“Boss, there are too many people around the Shen family’s young heir. I couldn’t find an opening.”
The other end said something. The woman clicked her tongue and hung up.
Dealing with a crazy boss is really exhausting—endless dirty work every day. When will heaven finally open its eyes and give her a new master?!
Bai Zheng hung up the phone and had already arrived at the entrance of the secret room.
The bodyguards outside recognized him and immediately stepped forward to salute.
Bai Zheng pointed at the elevator outside the corridor. “Get out. Don’t let anyone in.”
The four bodyguards immediately turned and left.
Bai Zheng took a key from inside his suit jacket. At the same time the key slid into the lock, his other hand flicked off the safety of his gun.
The Shen family actually found him this quickly. It seemed he had underestimated those two little pets.
When he opened the door, Bai Zheng switched on all the lights. The bed in the center of the room was empty.
A dark ripple passed through his eyes. This secret room was his private playground—there was no way out except through the guarded entrance. And A-Ti had injected them with an aphrodisiac only thirty minutes ago, so the “little pets” must be hiding.
After a brief thought, the man closed the door again and curved his lips into an amused smile.
It seemed the little pets had prepared him an entertainment show. Then he would enjoy it properly.
He walked into the room with complete confidence, slowly running his hand over the luxurious furniture as he searched piece by piece.
“Let’s see… who will I catch first?”
“Don’t rush. One by one—you won’t escape.”
The interior was decorated in black Rococo style. There were only a few pieces of furniture, mostly ornamental. The large wardrobe was opened—completely empty. At a glance, there was nowhere to hide.
Clearly, the “little pets” knew this as well. There was no one in the cabinets or wardrobe.
“What a pity… I was just one step away.”
After one empty search, the man was not angry—instead, he grew more excited. When he entered the study and casually glanced at the coffee table, he noticed two fruit knives were missing.
He smiled and continued searching along the desk. When his fingers brushed the cold surface, he suddenly paused.
He lifted his finger, touched the faint liquid on the table, and brought it to his nose.
Blood?
The excitement in Bai Zheng’s eyes cooled considerably as he narrowed them slightly and looked at the notebook on the desk.
He glanced around before using one finger to lift the notebook. The bloodstains on the keyboard were even heavier than on the desk surface.
Someone had touched his computer.
Bai Zheng slowly entered a string of passwords. The computer immediately booted into its operating interface. He opened the encrypted files and found everything still there. Just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a sudden thought struck him.
There was blood on the keyboard, which meant someone had tampered with his computer… but the self-destruct program hadn’t activated.
Bai Zheng slowly raised his eyes. His thumb brushed across the hammer; the sound of a bullet being chambered was like an iceberg exploding within an aurora.
Jiang Huashan was trembling behind the curtain just a step away.
Bai Zheng’s gaze swept across the study and eventually landed on the black curtain. After a moment’s hesitation, he turned and walked toward a row of bookshelves instead.
Jiang Huashan closed her eyes, her heartbeat thundering like a drum.
Just as Bai Zheng’s fingers touched the curtain—
A strange sound came from outside the study. Bai Zheng’s expression changed, and he immediately rushed out.
Jiang Huashan went cold with fear. Taking advantage of the moment he turned away, she quickly slipped from behind the curtain to the back of the door.
“Hahaha, little baby~ I haven’t even started looking for you and you can’t wait anymore?”
Shen Guiling held a sharp knife in his hand. With a reverse motion, he cut the entrance power switch.
With a sharp zzt—, the eerie room was instantly plunged into darkness.
Bai Zheng looked astonished. Oh! Look at that! What had he just discovered!
The moment the “little pet” swung the knife, it actually stirred all the dark instincts buried inside him. That gaze! That presence! It was practically another version of himself!
After searching for so long, he had finally found someone worth it.
Shen Guiling carefully retreated to the doorway, using the knife to pry open the lock.
Bai Zheng saw through his intention and advanced step by step with his gun raised.
“Little thing, did you steal the documents on the desk?”
Shen Guiling said nothing and continued forcing the lock.
“Bang—!”
A bullet grazed the side of the boy’s face and pierced through the door.
Shen Guiling’s pupils contracted slightly as he let out a soft breath.
Bai Zheng sighed in regret. “You’re still too young. You don’t understand the Bai family at all.”
His expression sharpened as he suddenly lunged forward.
He could easily kill him, but he didn’t. Capturing him with such effort meant he must have some purpose.
Shen Guiling also realized this. He slashed outward in a feint, then turned to grab the doorknob.
“Trying to run?”
Bai Zheng grabbed his arm and locked him in a grappling hold around the neck. Shen Guiling gritted his teeth and used his last strength to forcefully wrench downward.
Click—
The lock turned.
The only escape route cracked open, and light from the corridor spilled across the boy’s face.
Bai Zheng’s pupils shrank. Buried memories surged like a breaking coastline, roaring as if some beast inside him was clawing against its cage.
Like him.
Too much like him.
Bai Zheng raised his leg and kicked Shen Guiling hard in the waist. Shen Guiling groaned and collapsed, clutching his abdomen.
At this point, he was already at his limit.
Bai Zheng saw clearly that Shen Guiling was a feral, wolf-like youth. To prevent resistance, he struck him in the temple with the butt of his gun.
Blood-red haze filled Shen Guiling’s eyes as he tilted and fell.
Bai Zheng grabbed his arm, dragged him under the bed, then threw him onto the bed. Just as he was about to strip him, he noticed the boy still gripping a knife.
Even unconscious, he was still resisting.
Bai Zheng raised his gun, maintaining a gentlemanly tone. “Little one, put the knife down.”
Shen Guiling turned his head. Through his blurred vision, he saw a figure slowly approaching the doorway.
“Shen Guiling, let’s make a pact. If… if we’re really that unlucky, we have to ensure at least one of us survives. No matter who is found first, we must try our best to buy time for the other. How about it?”
Shen Guiling closed his eyes briefly, tightening his grip on the knife.
