Never had he seen such a stubborn, relentless woman. He had thought he’d driven her away with his scolding earlier—who would’ve guessed she’d go buy a funeral bell and come back to bang it here?
“You’re courting death! How dare you ring a funeral bell in front of the Fourth Prince’s residence? Did your brain get crushed in a door? Do you even know how the word ‘death’ is written?”
The guard rushed up to Jin Luoluo with his blade drawn and pressed it against her pale neck.
Jin Luoluo glanced coldly at the gleaming blade and casually pushed it aside with two fingers.
“If you want to kill me, then prepare to have your whole family buried with me. Tell me—what law in Chu Yun forbids me from ringing a funeral bell here? I’ll ring it however I like. Not only will I ring it, I’ll make it fancy. If you don’t let me see your Fourth Prince, I’ll keep ringing until he comes out.”
The guard froze. It was true—there was no law in Chu Yun forbidding someone from ringing a funeral bell outside the Fourth Prince’s residence.
It’s just that no one dared to do it. Offending the Fourth Prince was worse than a death sentence.
“Fine, so you’re not afraid of death? Just wait until our prince comes out—then you’ll know what’s worse than dying. Stirring trouble on someone’s turf—don’t you even know whose residence this is?”
“What, is he going to kill me? Is there no law left in this country?” Jin Luoluo said indifferently.
The guard burst out laughing. “Talk about law with my master? He is the law. The number of people he’s killed is more than the dishes you’ve eaten. Since you’re so eager to die, I’ll tie you up and drag you inside so my master can deal with you.”
With that, the guard moved to tie up Jin Luoluo.
Jin Luoluo didn’t resist at all. Ringing the funeral bell had been her plan from the start—to anger the guard into capturing her and bringing her before Xiao Yu.

Xiao Yu was receiving guests in Pear Blossom Courtyard.
“Your Highness, regarding this year’s selection of imperial merchants by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, I hope you’ll give me your support.”
Zhu Jiu, a famous silk merchant from Zhongzhou, was tall and thin like a bamboo pole, with a sallow complexion. But the needle-like glint in his eyes revealed him to be a shrewd and cunning businessman.
Xiao Yu calmly observed the chests of gold, jade, and jewels behind Zhu Jiu. His gaze swept over them one by one, a faint smile on his lips that revealed nothing.
Even a seasoned veteran like Zhu Jiu couldn’t tell whether this young prince was pleased or dissatisfied.
