“I just thought it looked fun! See? I hit Brother Yu!” Mu Yun said happily, wrapping herself around one of Xiao Yu’s arms and looking up at him expectantly.
Xiao Yu smiled bitterly.
He couldn’t bear to shake her hand off.
Mu Yun was such an innocent girl that he didn’t want to hurt her.
But the person he truly liked…
…wasn’t her.
Xiao Luo asked,
“Did Luoluo go with you?”
Mu Yun immediately shook her head.
“No. Jin Luoluo said it was a waste of money. Registration costs three taels of silver, and she refused to pay. She and Bulaya went into the temple to look around instead.”
“That certainly sounds like her.”
Xiao Che chuckled.
“A miserly little penny-pincher.”
Hearing that, the worry he’d been harboring finally eased.
Xiao Luo, however, remained silent, his gaze fixed thoughtfully on the stage.
“Yang Ruoyao, why don’t you try throwing an embroidered ball too? Let’s see who Heaven has chosen for you.”
Mu Yun deliberately challenged the silent Yang Ruoyao.
Yang Ruoyao’s expression darkened.
“What ‘Heaven’s destined match’? It’s nothing more than a gimmick the temple uses to attract visitors. I wouldn’t waste my time on something so childish.”
“Or are you afraid Brother-in-law won’t catch your embroidered ball?”
Mu Yun teased her mercilessly.
She felt immensely pleased with herself.
These days, Brother-in-law seemed far more concerned about Jin Luoluo than about that vixen.
It was driving Yang Ruoyao mad.
Since Brother-in-law was now trying to win Jin Luoluo’s favor, there was no way he’d dare catch Yang Ruoyao’s embroidered ball in front of Jin Luoluo.
That was why Yang Ruoyao didn’t dare humiliate herself by participating.
“If it’s truly a match ordained by Heaven,” Yang Ruoyao replied through gritted teeth, “then whether I throw an embroidered ball or not, the one destined for me won’t escape.”
“Exactly,” Mu Yun said with a grin. “If someone isn’t meant to be yours, they’ll never be yours. At least this way you save yourself three taels of silver.”
Several more girls took their turns.
Finally…
It was Jin Luoluo’s turn.
She stepped behind the curtain on the stage, and for some reason, her heart suddenly began to pound.
She had only joined for fun.
She didn’t believe in any so-called destiny ordained by Heaven.
Yet little pink bubbles of anticipation still floated up in her heart.
Wouldn’t it be romantic if the lame fellow really caught my embroidered ball?
Come to think of it…
They had never really experienced anything romantic together.
I’ll treat this as a big surprise for him.
Of course…
For it to truly be a surprise, their hearts had to be in sync.
If he failed to realize it was her…
…and simply dodged the embroidered ball…
