Xiao Luo’s face darkened. He hurriedly bent over to pick up Jin Luoluo, who had collapsed unconscious on the ground.
Xiao Che grew even angrier.
“I should be the one asking what the two of you were doing together in the middle of the night! Seventeenth Uncle, I’ve always respected you as my elder, but I find your behavior disgraceful. You even laid your hands on my fiancée—what kind of conduct is that? Jin Luoluo, stop lying there pretending to be dead. Get up! I’ve tolerated you for long enough. Today we’re settling this once and for all!”
In his fury, Xiao Che slapped away Xiao Luo’s outstretched hand and grabbed hold of Jin Luoluo, trying to pull her to her feet.
He wanted to demand why she had seduced his Seventeenth Uncle and why she cared so little about his feelings.
“Xiao Che, stop acting like a madman!” Xiao Luo shouted. “Look carefully—Luoluo has already fainted. She has a high fever and needs an imperial physician immediately. If you keep tossing her around like this, you’ll only make her condition worse!”
Xiao Che suddenly froze.
Lowering his head, he lifted the bamboo rain hat covering Jin Luoluo.
Only then did he realize that her eyes were tightly shut, her face was filled with pain, and every breath she took was burning hot.
His heart lurched.
He hurriedly called her name several times, but Jin Luoluo gave no response.
Turning to the attendants behind him, he ordered,
“Quick! Summon the imperial physicians to the Chaoyang Palace immediately.”
All of Xiao Che’s anger vanished, leaving only anxiety.
Stretching out his arms, he scooped Jin Luoluo into his embrace and hurried out of the courtyard, rushing back toward Chaoyang Palace as fast as he could.
Watching his retreating figure in anxious haste, a heavy sense of foreboding settled in Xiao Luo’s chest.
Judging from Xiao Che’s reaction, he truly cared about Jin Luoluo.
He cared enough that he had nearly turned against his own uncle for her sake.
From now on, Xiao Luo’s opportunities to be with Luoluo would likely face even greater obstacles.
Jin Luoluo felt unbearably hot in her sleep.
It was as if she had been thrown into a blazing furnace, her whole body melting from the heat. She was so miserable she felt like she was dying.
Then she dreamed that a hideous, green-faced monster with sharp fangs had come to kill her.
She struggled desperately.
At last, she succeeded in kicking the monster to death with one powerful kick.
Gradually, something cool was placed against her forehead.
Bit by bit, it drew away the oppressive heat from her body, making her feel wonderfully comfortable.
When she woke at dawn, it all seemed like nothing more than a nightmare.
The dream had been agonizing, but now that she was awake, the suffering had disappeared completely. She felt refreshed and full of energy.
“Haha! I’m alive again! That’s great! My life force is just as tenacious as a cockroach’s!”
