More than anything, she couldn’t bear to watch him struggle through the wind and rain just to take her home.

“It’ll be all right, Luoluo. You have to trust me. If I can’t even protect you, then I don’t deserve to have you. Be good, don’t worry. I was trained as a soldier—my body isn’t that frail. Compared to snow-covered mountains, the wilderness, and blood-soaked battlefields, this rainstorm is nothing.”

Xiao Luo carefully wrapped the curtain cloth around Jin Luoluo’s neck to keep it covered, then wheeled himself to the edge of the eaves.

Outside, rain poured in torrents. It was as if the heavens had split open, sending an endless deluge crashing down.

The howling wind swept beneath the corridor, roaring past the pillars. Driven by the gale, the rain blew in as well, striking their faces with the sting of pine needles.

Jin Luoluo knew that once Xiao Luo had made up his mind, nothing could change it. Her heart ached for him, yet it was also filled with warmth.

After all, every woman longs to be protected by the man she loves.

She was so fortunate to have met Xiao Luo. Even in circumstances like these, all he could think about was protecting her, regardless of the hardship it brought him.

“I’ll hold an umbrella for you. It may not block much, but it’s better than getting completely soaked. The raindrops really hurt when they hit.”

“All right.”

Xiao Luo knew the umbrella would be practically useless, but he still didn’t want to reject her kindness.

Jin Luoluo sat on Xiao Luo’s lap, leaning against his chest.

Stretching one arm out from beneath the bamboo rain hat, she held the umbrella over him.

Xiao Luo hung a waterproof lantern on the side of his wheelchair. Looking out across the courtyard, he memorized the route ahead, then gathered his strength and slowly pushed his wheelchair into the pouring rain, moving forward one difficult step at a time.

The wind was fierce.

With one violent gust, it tore the umbrella right out of Jin Luoluo’s hand.

The rain poured directly onto Xiao Luo. Within moments he was soaked from head to toe. Streams of water ran down from his forehead into his collar, his hair clung together in wet strands, and not a single part of his clothes remained dry.

He seemed completely oblivious to it all.

Putting all his strength into turning the wheels of his chair, he continued forward with unwavering determination, like a mountain that refused to be moved.

Though he looked utterly bedraggled, he gave off an overwhelming sense of security—a man one could depend on no matter what.

Seeing him drenched to the bone, Jin Luoluo’s heart twisted with pain.

She desperately wanted to reach out and wipe the raindrops from his face, but she didn’t even have the strength to lift her hand.

She wanted to protect him too.

She wanted to spare him from having to endure such merciless rain.

But she was powerless.

All she could do was silently accept his protection, praying with all her heart that the rain would suddenly stop.
