Could there be some hidden story behind all this?
“It’ll take at least two days to reach Ye City. Staring at each other like this the whole time doesn’t seem very ideal, does it?” Xiao Luo spoke first, then glanced at Jin Luoluo.
Young people gathering together ought to be lively and cheerful, yet the seven of them seemed to have completely incompatible energies. They sat together while each kept to themselves, with no sense of harmony whatsoever.
Two days was neither long nor short. Continuing in such an awkward atmosphere would be truly depressing.
Catching Xiao Luo’s look, Jin Luoluo—naturally the best person to liven things up—immediately stepped forward.
“Exactly, exactly! We’re here to have fun, so why are we all wearing such stiff expressions? If we’re going to play, we should enjoy ourselves properly. I suggest we play some games to help everyone get to know each other better.”
Xiao Yu readily supported the idea.
“What kind of game?”
A gleam flashed in Jin Luoluo’s eyes. She immediately pulled over her luggage, rummaged through it, and triumphantly produced a box, which she placed on the small table in the center.
“Let’s play this.”
She opened the wooden box. Inside was a deck of cards ranging from Ace to King, along with two Jokers.
Everyone in the carriage looked at them with curiosity and fascination. Only Xiao Luo frowned slightly.
“Luoluo, what is this? And what do these patterns on the cards mean?” Xiao Yu asked as he picked up a card and examined it.
“These are playing cards. With these, our journey definitely won’t be boring. There are countless ways to play—more than enough to keep us entertained for two days.”
Jin Luoluo first explained the ranking and values of the cards.
“Let’s play an exciting game called the King’s Game.”
She removed the King of Spades, then took out the cards numbered two through seven, plus a Jack—eight cards in total.
“There are seven of us, and each person draws one card. Whatever card you draw is known only to yourself. Whoever draws the King of Spades becomes the King. Whoever draws the Jack is a commoner and doesn’t have to participate in any punishments. Those who draw number cards are prisoners and must accept the King’s commands.
“The King may designate certain numbered players to perform a task or play a game, and everyone must obey the King’s orders. After giving the command, the King must draw the final remaining card. If that card happens to match one of the numbers the King assigned, then the King must also follow the same rules.”
Muyun’s large eyes sparkled with interest.
“So the King can order everyone else around? What kinds of things can they make people do?”
“All sorts of things—whatever you like. For example, making someone crawl under the table, having someone perform a show, and so on. Basically, the trickier and more outrageous the King’s challenges are, the more fun the game becomes.”
