“Why has Jin Luoluo come to the palace today?” the Empress asked.
After a moment’s consideration, the lady-in-waiting replied, “She has come to attend the banquet held by His Majesty to reward those who participated in the suppression of the mountain bandits. It is said that Prince Luo submitted her name, and after receiving the Emperor’s approval, she was summoned to the palace.”
The Empress had long since heard that Jin Luoluo had accompanied Xiao Luo on the campaign against the mountain bandits. The shock of that matter had still not faded from her mind.
She had wanted for a long time to summon Jin Luoluo and ask why she had been with the Imperial Uncle in the middle of the night. Such behavior was utterly improper and against all decorum.
And now, she was openly entering and leaving the palace with the Imperial Uncle at her side. If malicious people chose to make an issue of it, where would Xiao Che’s dignity remain?
As Empress, she felt obligated to give the girl a reminder.
“After the awards banquet, have her summoned to see me. I have something I wish to discuss with her.”
The merit awards banquet was originally a gathering dominated by men, but Jin Luoluo’s arrival added a touch of color to the occasion.
The generals and soldiers were all rough, straightforward men. Seeing such a delicate young lady appear to receive rewards alongside them, their eyes naturally gravitated toward her.
They had heard that she was the one who had saved Prince Xiao Luo, and they were all curious about how a woman who did not even know martial arts had managed such a feat.
Some were dismissive, some were curious, and some, upon seeing a beauty, simply could not take their eyes off her.
“Luoluo, you’ve completely stolen my spotlight,” Xiao Luo remarked with a sigh as he watched her become the center of everyone’s attention.
Jin Luoluo immediately slipped into her usual narcissistic mode.
“Once I, Jin Luoluo, appear, naturally all eyes are on me. Sigh! I don’t mean to steal your thunder, but charm is something one is born with. What can I do about it? Don’t be sad, little Luo-Luo. You’re quite outstanding yourself, though compared to me, you’re still just a little inferior.”
Xiao Luo burst into laughter.
Jin Luoluo pushed his wheelchair to the seat of honor and asked, “Where am I supposed to sit?”
“Sit beside me.”
Xiao Luo instructed the attendants to move the long table next to his and join the two together.
Jin Luoluo didn’t care in the slightest and sat down casually. After waiting for a long time without the grand, self-important Emperor making his appearance, she grew bored and decided that eating was the best way to pass the time.
But after eating for a while, she began to feel that something was strange.
Why were all the men seated opposite staring at her while she ate?
