Xiao Che had not expected her sneak attack. The cucumber struck him on the forehead, and the juice from its pulp trickled down his nose, making him look utterly ridiculous.
“Jin Luoluo, you’re courting death!” Xiao Che roared in anger, throwing the cucumber to the ground and stomping it into mush.
Everyone around them burst into uncontrollable laughter at the sight.
Jin Luoluo laughed the hardest of all, bending over with mirth. Her bell-like laughter echoed throughout the entire courtyard.
Her happiness was infectious. Breathing in the fresh mountain air, everyone felt unusually cheerful and carefree.
When Jin Luoluo returned home this time, she received an overwhelmingly warm welcome from everyone in the Jin residence.
They all rushed forward, hugging one another and crying as if she had just returned alive from a battlefield after narrowly escaping death.
“Miss, I was worried sick about you! You told me you were staying overnight at one of the shops, so how did you end up hunting mountain bandits? When I heard the news, I nearly fainted. You’re absolutely terrible!” Green Sprout complained, looking as though she wanted to strangle Jin Luoluo. The young lady’s courage was becoming more outrageous by the day—joining a bandit suppression mission in the middle of the night was terrifying just to hear about.
“Exactly! At the very least, you should have left us a message. We spent the entire day worrying ourselves sick,” Hongye huffed.
Jin Luoluo could only apologize in a meek voice. These days, even the maids were more formidable than their mistress.
Still, she was deeply moved, her heart filled with warmth. True feelings really did reveal themselves in times of hardship.
Everyone in the Jin household doted on her beyond measure. How fortunate she was to have such a loving family who cared so much about her.
She resolved to work even harder so that every member of the family could live a happy and blessed life.
While the family was happily reunited, someone arrived at the gate.
“Jin Luoluo.”
Turning around, Jin Luoluo saw that it was Lan Cangxuan. Her scalp tingled with apprehension. He had found her so quickly—it seemed he had been lying in wait for a long time, ready to catch her the moment she returned.
“Young Master Lan, do you really have to be this professional? At least let me reunite with my family first. I only just escaped with my life from those mountain bandits. If you want to settle accounts, could you at least give me some time to recover?”
Jin Luoluo immediately painted herself as a pitiful victim. It was a classic sympathy tactic; surely Lan Cangxuan couldn’t bear to interrogate her under such circumstances.
Lan Cangxuan pursed his lips awkwardly.
“Since you’ve suffered so much, I suppose my revenge has already been taken. I won’t hold the drugging incident against you anymore.”
