As soon as Xiao Luo and Jin Luoluo arrived, they were treated as honored guests.
They were settled in the Zhang family’s home—the best household in the village—to recover from their injuries. The entire village turned out to see them. When the villagers heard that they were from the capital, they became even more curious, studying them as though they were exotic creatures.
Xiao Luo and Jin Luoluo were both accustomed to grand occasions, so they did not find the villagers rude.
The villagers’ eyes were simple and sincere. Though their speech lacked refinement, the warmth and honesty in their mannerisms were genuinely touching.
“We heard that my husbands were the ones who rescued you. How did you end up falling into the river?”
The speaker was Auntie Zhang, a middle-aged woman with sun-darkened skin and a sturdy build. When she smiled, her bright white teeth shone brilliantly.
Jin Luoluo stared in shock.
“Auntie… all of them are your husbands?”
She looked at the three grinning men standing behind Auntie Zhang.
Oh my God!
Had she somehow arrived in a matriarchal society?
“Yes, they’re all my husbands.”
Auntie Zhang looked slightly embarrassed.
“In our village, there are more men than women. We’re poor, and few women are willing to marry into the village, so we make do like this. It’s not as proper as the customs you city folk have in the capital.”
“No, no, no! This is great! This tradition deserves to be promoted far and wide! From a historical perspective, women have always been more important than men. Without women, where would men come from? You’re doing a fantastic job!”
Jin Luoluo was positively thrilled.
Ever since coming to this ancient world, where men were superior and women inferior, she had been surrounded by households full of wives and concubines.
Although it had nothing to do with her personally, the whole arrangement had always left her feeling uncomfortable.
Now she had finally encountered a progressive example.
It was immensely satisfying.
Xiao Luo leaned close and whispered in her ear,
“And without men, there wouldn’t be any descendants. What exactly do you think women would give birth to on their own?”
Jin Luoluo glared at him.
“That’s pure jealousy talking! Hehe, you never imagined women could have multiple husbands, did you? Your male pride has been wounded, you feudal chauvinist pig!”
Xiao Luo gazed at her with a strange expression, not blinking.
“What does it matter to me if someone has multiple husbands or wives? As long as they can live harmoniously, respect one another, and enjoy a happy life together, there’s nothing wrong with it. More importantly, it solves this village’s imbalance between men and women.”
He paused.
“What I find strange is why you’re so excited about it. Don’t tell me you want to follow their example and take several husbands yourself?”
Jin Luoluo was momentarily stunned.
