“Your Highness, it sounds like someone is approaching from the rear slope of this mountain.”
Bai Hu suddenly pricked up his ears and listened carefully.
Xiao Luo’s expression turned grave.
“There’s actually a fish that slipped through the net? No, that’s not right. Under these circumstances, no one inside the stronghold could possibly escape. It must be a group that was out robbing and has only just rushed back.”
A sense of danger rose in Jin Luoluo’s heart. This was truly terrible luck—they had run into an unexpected disaster.
She knew no martial arts. Xiao Luo was crippled. Only Bai Hu could fight.
Damn it. They weren’t going to abandon her and run, were they?
“Your Highness, before they rush up here, I’ll take you down the mountain first.”
Bai Hu was already gathering his strength, preparing to charge down the mountain in one burst.
Jin Luoluo felt like cursing out loud. They really were planning to leave her behind.
However, Xiao Luo refused. He turned and glanced at Jin Luoluo.
“Bai Hu, take Miss Luoluo down first. I’ll stay here. As a cripple, I may not even attract their attention.”
Jin Luoluo’s heart trembled. Suddenly, the warmth in his eyes made her want to cry. She had never expected him to let her leave first while he remained behind and risked his own life.
To be honest, they were not even that close. There was no reason for him to go this far for her. Even if he abandoned her, it would have been perfectly understandable.
When danger loomed, everyone thought of themselves first. Why was he treating her so well?
“Your Highness, those bandits have no humanity. They’ll kill you!”
Bai Hu stared at him in disbelief.
“Do you think your master is someone who dies so easily? I survived the battlefield. If I were to die at the hands of a bunch of rabble, that would be far too humiliating. Take Luoluo and leave first. I have my own way of dealing with them. I won’t die that easily.”
Bai Hu stubbornly replied,
“I can’t possibly abandon Your Highness.”
“Are you even going to disobey my orders now? Don’t forget who your master is.”
Xiao Luo’s low voice carried an overwhelming pressure that compelled obedience to his authority.
Bai Hu shuddered. Gritting his teeth, he lowered his head and quickly settled Xiao Luo into a concealed patch of tall grass.
“Xiao Luo, I’m not leaving. I’m staying to help you deal with them.”
Jin Luoluo’s emotions were in turmoil. Looking at Xiao Luo sitting on the ground, she could not describe what she was feeling.
But at the very least, she could not bear to leave him behind.
