Looking at the Black-Bellied Prince like this…
…he actually seemed rather handsome.
His eyes were well-shaped, his nose was well-defined, and even those slightly pursed lips somehow looked incredibly attractive. (Author’s note: Well, whose eyes aren’t eyes and whose nose isn’t a nose?)
Jin Luoluo suddenly felt her face grow warm. The little voice inside her head immediately began struggling in protest.
Impossible! The Black-Bellied Prince is such a thoroughly rotten scoundrel. How could he possibly be handsome? It must be an illusion… an illusion! If I just keep staring at him hard enough, I’ll start seeing him as hideous and utterly repulsive.
So Jin Luoluo glared fiercely at Xiao Luo, trying her hardest to imagine him as a green-faced, fang-bearing monster.
Even Xiao Luo, who had been deeply absorbed in thought, noticed the change in her mood and looked up at her curiously.
“Is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me like you want to bite my head off?”
“There’s a mosquito on your forehead. I hate mosquitoes the most. There are so many of them out here in the mountains.”
She slapped a hand onto his forehead.
“Oh no… it flew away!”
Xiao Luo lowered his eyes to the hand still pressed against his forehead.
This was the third time she had touched him.
Oddly enough, he had allowed it every single time.
He gently took her hand away and smiled.
“You’re lying.”
“There really was a mosquito. Why would I lie?” Jin Luoluo stubbornly refused to admit it.
Xiao Luo pointed toward the incense burner in the corner. Wisps of fragrant smoke drifted lazily from it.
“I hate mosquitoes even more than you do, so I had the finest mosquito-repelling incense brought in. There’s no way a mosquito could be here.”
He paused, then continued thoughtfully.
“Now let me think about why you’d lie. There must be something you’re trying to hide from me.”
His gaze carefully studied her face as he seriously considered the matter.
Only then did Jin Luoluo realize that, in her panic, she had made such an obvious mistake. But the Black-Bellied Prince was far too perceptive—he had seen straight through her lie.
Still, she absolutely couldn’t let him discover what had just happened to her.
If he found out she’d been flustered because she thought he was handsome, he’d laugh himself to death.
“Are you interrogating a criminal or something? Hurry up and think about your plan to wipe out the bandits. If you fail later, I’ll go back to the capital and make sure everyone hears about your disgraceful reputation.”
“That’s one thing you don’t need to worry about. I already have a thorough plan. Those bandits won’t be escaping from the palm of my hand.”
He smiled leisurely.
“But the more eagerly you try to change the subject… the more you’ve piqued my curiosity.”
Xiao Luo’s eyes wandered back and forth across her face, a sly smile playing at the corners of his lips as he began analyzing her reaction, one clue at a time.
