Just then, a guard dressed in fitted martial attire hurried into the reception hall.
His muscles were thick and well-defined, and his powerful build made it obvious at a glance that he was a skilled martial artist. He walked over to Xiao Luo and whispered a few words into his ear.
Jin Luoluo pricked up her ears, but she still couldn’t hear a thing. She couldn’t help sighing to herself—knowing martial arts really was wonderful. Even one’s hearing was far sharper than that of ordinary people.
Xiao Luo pondered for a moment, his expression becoming exceptionally grave. He then quietly gave the guard a few instructions in return.
Jin Luoluo strained her ears even harder, but still heard nothing.
How tragic…
After the guard left, Xiao Luo shot her an annoyed look.
“This concerns affairs of the imperial court. It has nothing to do with you. You’re far too curious.”
Jin Luoluo snorted disdainfully.
“So what if I am? I still couldn’t hear anything. You two were acting so mysterious. What are you plotting? If you won’t tell me, I’ll report you to the authorities.”
“Go ahead,” Xiao Luo replied indifferently. “I just hope you don’t accidentally get yourself implicated as well.”
He set down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth with a handkerchief, then washed his hands in the jade basin a servant presented to him.
“Luoluo, I have business to attend to tonight. If you don’t want to go home, you can stay here. I’ll have a guest room prepared for you.”
“I’m coming with you.”
Jin Luoluo’s interest was instantly piqued. Something so secretive that had to be carried out under the cover of night had to be exciting. Her life had been far too peaceful lately—it was about time for a little excitement.
“This is dangerous,” Xiao Luo warned. “Very dangerous. There will be bloodshed.”
“How can you deliberately leave me hanging like this? Before you said that, I wasn’t all that eager to go. But now I can’t suppress the urge anymore. Please, let me indulge my curiosity just this once!”
Even Jin Luoluo’s blood was racing with excitement. Well, to be honest, she had a violent streak deep in her blood. Back in her modern world, the games she played were all the ultra-violent kind.
Now she had the chance to watch the real thing unfold before her eyes.
How thrilling!
Xiao Luo looked at her helplessly.
Did any normal woman get excited over this sort of thing?
Once again, this woman’s boldness had exceeded all his expectations.
“But you don’t know any martial arts. You could lose your head.”
Jin Luoluo shamelessly replied,
“It’s fine. I can protect myself. And if I really can’t, I’ll just hide behind you and use you as my shield. At the very least, you’ll die before I do. Come on, let’s go! I’m suddenly starting to think I have the makings of a great hero.”
Using him as a human shield—she actually had the nerve to say it out loud. She even bullied a cripple. She really had no conscience whatsoever.
Xiao Luo was completely speechless.
Still, he couldn’t help thinking that having her tag along on tonight’s mission to wipe out the mountain bandits might make it a great deal more interesting.
